Just love listening to you guys talking about hockey. I used to listen to every single second of your podcast. Now I have to skip those segments of native advertisement. The thing about addiction is, that there is no "responsible gaming". No disclaimer will change that.
@joer8854
@joer8854 2 жыл бұрын
The problem is that you think the addiction wouldn't exist without the thing. First off, many people gamble responsibly. Second, you remove the drug you still have an addict, it's just a different drug that they are addicted to. You have to deal with the underlying issue that causes addiction. Gambling, alcohol, cocaine, opiates, doesn't matter, there is always something behind the addiction. It's a mental health issue and unless you deal with that, you are just replacing one drug with another. That's not just guessing either, it's fact.

@MaGiKFuNgUs57
@MaGiKFuNgUs57 2 жыл бұрын
@@mixuzi4042 you really know nothing about how ad revenue on KZfaq works, do you? If they put ads on their video through KZfaq, KZfaq takes all the money from the advertiser and then THEY get to decide how much of a percentage of that money the creator gets. With the in-video promos, the SDPN and the podcast are directly sponsored which means they get the money they should and have to run less ads total, which actually ends up as a better situation for viewers (us). What’s delusional and dumb is trying to argue something when you are not informed enough to.

@KZfaq Viewer This is the most lazy false equivalency I've ever heard. Advertising food does not result in the same effects as advertising gambling lol. It's been well researched that advertising gambling does have a direct effect on gambling participation. Comparing that to food advertisements is just asinine.

Common sense says that it was too many men. When Kadri skated into the play Mackinnon was 20 feet from the bench, and when he received the puck Mackinnon was about 8 feet from the bench. It's a penalty. Under no circumstance should Kadri have started to skate into the play until Mackinnon was only 5 feet away. The right call would be to negate the goal, assess a bench minor to both teams, and continue the game 4 on 4. This problem would be solved if they put a ref between the benches to call all bench minors. That way the refs on the ice can concentrate on the ice and the one on the bench can concentrate on the benches.

Ottawa is such a strange case. The entire reason the team exists is that the first owners had bought that land out in the boonies, it was a terrible deal, and they needed to find a way to make it pay. Not passion for hockey, not anything else. That all came, but it came after the initial impetus to start the team in the 90s. In Ottawa, it is widely understood that Melnyck hired someone to do a deal for the Lebreton site, they got a really good deal, but Melnyck decided to go back for a renegotiation - which you can't do with a really sticky Federal bureaucracy. And that killed that deal instantly. (Sorry don't mean to spam your comments!)

Richardson Ended his career with Ottawa. Played 4 years for the leafs, Edmonton for 6 years, Philly for 5, Columbus for 3 and at the deadline traded back to Toronto for 20 games. Then signed with Tampa, then to Ottawa. played for everyone and some far longer than the leafs. Sounds kinda funny hearing him claimed as a leaf.

Hey Guys! Thanks for the amazing show! Getting back on the Habs // French Speaking situation. I think that the head coach and the GM have to be able to speak french and understand the culture of Quebec. Kent Hughes is from Quebec is Anglophone, that speaks French fluently so that's why he was selected. I believe that Julian McKenzie would be eligible too to be GM or Head Coach on the Has (Montrealer / Quebecker who speaks english and french fluently). Anyway :) Thanks again for the amazing show. I know you guys don’t meant it in a bad way but I think it’s important to clarify something. When you say Montreal only hires coaches that are from Quebec it’s false. It’s not about where you from. Its about how you can communicate with the majority of the population in their native language. Claude Julien isnt from Quebec. Bob Gainey isn’t from Quebec. Bowman was an Anglo Montrealer. What do they have in common? They could speak French. What’s wrong with learning french? Sometimes I listen to anglophones and it’s like there’s never that option. Lots of people learn languages in order to get a job around the globe. Francophones in Quebec we all need to learn English to work. Since anglophones speak the most spoken second language on the planet they don’t seem to understand that sometimes an effort is needed to show some respect to other cultures. It’s not because everybody speaks your langage that you won’t have to make an effort. Take exemple on bob Gainey, Paul Byron or pj stock. They show some interest in the French language, learned it, made the effort and that’s a great show of respect. And they are respected for it. Imagine if Toronto had a coach who didn’t speak English? In Barcelona the coach is expected to learn Catalan. Why is French in Canada different? A lot of anglos in Montreal who refuse to speak French and prefer bashing the French Quebecers are unfortunately spreading misinformation about the language situation here in Quebec. It’s not that bad and In fact French is slowly dying in North America.

According to the rules as written, its a good goal, as to how it should be its no goal. The simple rule change is that both the player retiring and the player replacing them should BOTH be within the 5ft region next to the bench which is the clear problem here, there's also the problem of there being no time limit that a player could stand in the 5ft region before actually getting on the bench.
@Noordhof

It says the player must be "retiring from the ice surface," so they could move slowly, but can't just stand there.

If the 5 foot rule is a subsection of the too many men rule section of the rule book then it could be said it only applies to too many men and could mean both calls for the stl/Avs and tbl/avs. If it it a subsection of the description of line changes then the tbl/avs call is correct and stl/avs rule could be wrong. Either way it needs to be clarified.
@mp40submachinegun81
@mp40submachinegun81 2 жыл бұрын
the 5 foot rule jesse read explicitly says what it applies to. rule 70. rule 74 is the too many men rule. "When a player is retiring from the ice surface and is within the five foot (5’) limit of his players’ bench, and his substitute is on the ice, then the retiring player shall be considered off the ice for the purpose of Rule 70 - Leaving Bench." this just defines what is considered on the bench if you leave the bench to get in a fight. not too many men. "70.1 - Leaving the Bench - No player may leave the players’ or penalty bench at any time during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation"

The difference, Adam, is that Tampa vs. the Islanders had 6 players IN THE PLAY, whereas Colorado had 5 in the play, and 1 at the bench, going off. Standard line change. That call will never get called unless the puck hits MacKinnon in the skate or something. I agree, Jesse, the story is Kadri going into the zone 1 on 3, and scoring against the best goalie in the league when he can barely shoot the puck! Also, Darcy Kuemper, who gets so much flak from nay-sayers, setting a new NHL record as the only goalie to register an assist on an OT winner in a SCF game! And the Raptors shouldn't have won that NBA Championship. They should have been called for 'too many men on the court'! 🤣
@mp40submachinegun81
@mp40submachinegun81 2 жыл бұрын
actually, if the puck hits mackinnon in the skate its not a penalty. there has to be an active attempt to play the puck. incidental contact is allowed. whats not allowed is purposely playing the puck by either player invloved in the line change, which in this case is kadri and mackinnon, until the retiring player (mackinnon) leaves the ice. this is a textbook call that is always called. if kadri doesnt touch the puck until mackinnon is off the ice, its a fine play.

Cooper did the right thing. He took all the heat off his players. In bringing up this non-troversy because in a 2 minute press conference that is much, much shorter than most of the ones he's done so far which should probably ring alarm bells, he has successfully taken every second of the Lightning getting torched in OT and for most of the third period entirely out of the heads of people, and replaced it with this. Masterclass work on his part. Is his "respect" and "class" in trouble? Yeah, sure, a little. But it's not gonna matter in the long term if you win Game 5.

it completely effected the play..... kadri, the goal scorer, touched the puck before mackinnon was off the ice. he cant do that. kadri also came onto the ice before mackinnon was within 5 feet of the bench, which he isnt allowed to do. if kadri waits to come onto the ice until he is allowed to, he isnt in position to recive the pass at the blueline, and the goal never happens.

Guys I know you're trying to get this right and show respect, but being a francophone is not at all cultural, it's just speaking French. An Ontario-raised person from Northern Ontario who spoke French would be fine, just as Kent Hughes - an anglo from the West Island - is fine at GM. There are those who are "stricter" and would insist on a francophone Quebecois, that doesn't seem to be the requirement. And the speaking French thing is cultural, but also practical. Imagine that every coach or GM quote in the media covering 75% of your audience had to be translated before putting it into print. It's just not sustainable. Anyhow I'm sad because I played Little League with Luke in Ottawa, and though we haven't had ANY contact since we were 15, it was still cool that he was a coach on my preferred team!

jesse, your citing the wrong rule. too many men is one of the most clear rules in the rulebook. i dont understand how this is controversial. the definition at 4:15 is not applicable. as written in the rulebook it says "When a player is retiring from the ice surface and is within the fivefoot (5’) limit of his players’ bench, and his substitute is on the ice, then the retiring player shall be considered off the ice for the purpose of Rule 70 - Leaving Bench." this section jesse read has no relevance. too many men is rule 74, not 70, so this definition doesnt apply. rule 70 says "Leaving the Bench - No player may leave the players’ or penalty bench at any time during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation" the definition jesse read just defines what is on or off the bench to decide if you left the bench to fight, not for too many men. rule 74 states "Too Many Men on the Ice - Players may be changed at any time during the play from the players’ bench provided that the player or players leaving the ice shall be within five feet (5') of his players’ bench and out of the play BEFORE the change is made. Refer also to Rule 71 - Premature Substitution. At the discretion of the on-ice officials, should a substituting player come onto the ice before his teammate is within the five foot (5’) limit of the players’ bench (and therefore clearly causing his team to have too many players on the ice), then a bench minor penalty may be assessed." mackinnon is not within 5 feet of the bench when kadri goes on the ice, therefore it is too many men. further, under rule 74, even if the player is within 5 feet of the bench when the change is made, the player who came on cannot play the puck until the other player is off. kadri recives the pass while mackinnon is still on the ice. "If in the course of making a substitution, either the player entering the game or the player retiring plays the puck or who checks or makes any physical contact with an opposing player while both players involved in the substitution are on the ice, then the infraction of “too many men on the ice” will be called."

NFTs as they are talked about are simple. It's companies wanting more money out of fans. It's them saying something is x value out of artificial scarcity and zero effort and selling that to consumers for said value, which the consumer can then trade on the market that the maker of NFT controls and probably takes fees on said trades. For an example there is a game called Grit. That a NFT bro company either bought or made a deal with. They had a basically $8000 horse in it, that pretty was just a horse with few pieces on it that had changing colors and there ended up being 1000 or so variations. So every one of those were "unique". But in fact it was the same horse, same animation everything. And NFT basically is a reciept of a digital art on a server that can be taken out at anytime, which in this case would be a reciept that you got a digital horse in a game for $8000. So yeah, if anyone promotes an NFT assume they have financial motivations behind it as they are(at least currently) designed for fools to part with their money. Now an NHL nft might be an unique picture of someone celebrating a win or an achievement that nobody else can have. Basically single print hockey cards without them being unique and you owning said "hockey card" just you have an NFT pointing to that picture.

I think it's perfectly fair to say that the Kadri trade was bad back then and even worse now. What the Leafs did was trade a great player for two lesser good players. One that absolutely sucked on our team and another that has heart and has been good, but nothing great. We tend to forget that the for the last 3 years since he was traded we've been trying to get a guy that has tenacity and grit and that was Kadri on the dot. People always seem to look at trading players like trading hockey cards and completely ignore the potential players have to get better. What Dubas did was listen to the so called fans for trading him. And he listened and that trade has bit him in the ass to the max. I also don't think he would've been suspended a 3rd time if he was on the Leafs if he had a talking to and understood the repercussions of his actions. If anything I think with the spotlight of being a Leafs would've made him mature faster. Point is when your organization has talent, it's idiotic to trade it away for lesser players.

You are correct however the rule doesn't say anything about possession that is relevant to this. Rule 75 in the 2021-2022 NHL Rulebook just states the player coming off the ice needs to be within 5 feet of the bench before the player replacing them touches the ice. Doesn't matter who is touching what. MacKinnon was about 30 feet from the bench when Kadri's skates hit the ice.
@joer8854

@@tkirchmann It also says that it's a judgement call by the refs and possession has always mattered. Tampa and Cooper knew this which is why they were confident that they could have 7 skaters on the ice. Otherwise it should have been two tampa penalties and a single penalty on the avs making it a 4 on 3 for the avs. You don't get it both ways. The point is that the play was called the way it's always called. People only don't like it because it didn't work in tampa's favor. If it was the other way and the refs called it tampa fans would be screaming murder that they aren't being consistent.
