As someone who has been in the transcription business for 36 years, I can tell you that the pay you noted on Rev for transcribing is crap. Unless you are making a minimum of $1 an audio minute, it isn't worth it. It takes an average of 1 hour to type 15 minutes of audio recording. Some, depending on the recording and transcriptionist, can take longer or shorter, but the average is 1 hour per 15 minutes. So, if you are making $1 a minute, that is at least $15 an hour. A 15 minute recording at 30 cents per minute would equal $4.50 an hour. I wouldn't do it for less than $1 a minute under any circumstances.

thank you! i was a transcriptionist many, many years ago. i was going to comment that pay per "audio minute" is nowhere near "pay per work minute".

@@katrinab7657 As you and I know, people made more transcribing 30 years ago than they do now. It's crazy what they pay these days. Independent contractors used to tell the client what they charged. Now, the client tells them what they will pay. They have essentially been reduced to employees with lower pay than minimum wage and no benefits.

Helpful. I dash fulltime while I work on setting up my own business, but sometimes the market dies in my area (2-4 pm), where I’m just getting 2 dollar shop and delivers at Dollar General. I’d definitely just take the 8/hr just to spare the maintaince on my car. Definitely appreciate your videos. Please keep it up!

Thanks for the info Mike! But thats weird. I signed up for Prolific and was accepted right away. Like i literally left my phone on the table when i got the "you're on the waitlist" went to get a soda in the fridge, and when i turned around to look at my phone, it said welcome!

I tried Rev at the start of the pandemic and once earlier this year and it was absolutely terrible. I made probably $0.45 a day? I'm not sure if it was user error or skill issue but it was terrible

Research platforms can be solid like the Respondent, UserTesting, Prolific and possibly MTurk. From personal experience getting qualified/approved for a study is the hurdle but look at the Respondent example at 2:25 for some great pay.

Not for Rev, Respondent, UserTesting, even Prolific and MTurk have some higher opportunities and I've heard good things. Trying to get activated on some of these so we'll see

@@YourDriverMike MTurk is dying out and has been for a few years now. Most of the good work moved over to Prolific. Depending on your demographics, Prolific has been putting people on a long waitlist. It took me over a year to get on. They are the best survey site but they also limit how many you can take in a short period. Most are shorter surveys that pay like $1 or less but the time it takes averages at or above the minimum $8 rate. They are great about making researchers pay out more if they don't reach these minimums too. Good luck on getting on the platform.

MTurk makes you pay to use their site and then the job sites they send you to make you pay. Not exactly what my broke a$$ needs. You could have stated that in your video and saved me a lot of time and $. I haven't tried the others you mentioned because once burned twice shy.
