Worst mistake in the entire world; recording my own vocals and thinking “this absolutely needs the wettest reverb possible because my vocals are pure yit”. When in reality it’s just muddying a mix and taking away from the focal point of a track

Loooool I feel you man, I’ve moved to not using reverb on vocals and only using delay instead. Seen a lot of pro mix engineers that exclusively do that so been giving it a go, definitely helps the mud

Just subbed dude. Made all the same mistakes myself. I think one of the hardest things to overcome with music production, is pushing that pesky ego aside. Accepting that you may have been doing something wrong, or that your knowledge was somewhat lacking in a particular area. Once we can accept the differences between ignorance & arrogance, it becomes a whole lot easier. Lastly, you're a handsome lil devil yourself buddy 😊 Keep at it you legend! 🤝 🤜🤛

I couldn’t agree more dude, that ignorance and arrogance bit is actually pretty profound. I love that thought haha I’m going to keep that and use it myself so if you see me say it you know where it came from my friend😂 also so sick to connect with a fellow producer and just be honest about the ups and downs of being a producer. Accepting ego and being open about it is tough but it’s so important. Thanks for the comment and I x100 agree with the handsome bit hahaha pleasure talking to you man, hit me up on Instagram Dms anytime✌️

Yea dude I would love to do it, money is only issue but if I get the opportunity I definitely will. Thanks for the suggestions, and it’s funny you say that because I have been reading and watching a decent amount of stuff on the S950 recently. I have been tempted by getting plugin emulation of it to be honest, I sort of love the sound myself.

Here is my essay: 1) Yes, but kinda no, if you use EQ/comp 'just because' you lose the entire point of it. Ideally you should have perfect samples/recordings and perfect volume balance and not need any EQ or comp. It should serve a clear and definite purpose, if a synth lacks high end try to add it with sound design or distortion before going to EQ. If your track is too dynamic try adjusting the velocity and volume automation before using compression. 2) Totally agree. 3) Can't say anything about that because genres are for uncultured swine. 4) Music careers are for uncultured swine. 5) If you have time to meet friends for collabs you aren't spending enough time on making music
@drewgrit_
@drewgrit_ 4 ай бұрын

Hey can you elaborate on pre-delay? I don't get how having pre-delay makes space for the vocals. Thanks
@drewgrit_
@drewgrit_ Жыл бұрын
Hey dude, I tried to give as much detail as possible on pre delay in the video but ill try work out another way to describe it since you asked! Imagine you and a friend are standing infront of a microphone. One of you claps your hands and the other breaks a stick in half at the exact same time. The sound recorded will probably sound like one cohesive sound. But if you did it again, but clap and break the stick one second apart from each other, youll be able to hear they are separate sounds. They will have more clarity as individual parts. Same thing applies to reverb! If you think of a snare and then add reverb with no pre delay, it will sound like the snare and reverb are one thing. But if you add some pre-delay there will be a slight gap which makes both parts sound more defined. Like a snare will no pre delay will sound more washed out, but with enough pre delay it will retain its punch and then you hear the lovely reverb drawing out the tail of the snare after. One last example, imagine you and a bunch of friends are walking side by side and then the path gets narrower, some people would have to fall behind slightly and follow so that there is space for everyone to get through. You're still all be one group but walking behind creates more space horizontally. Its something like that! These are all loose analogies but I hope they give you a bit more understanding of space in a mix, I tried my best😂 thanks for the comment my friend💪

Awesome but I have a question about number 5 and 6 : because a collab will most likely not see the light of day I should not try doing one? Also number 6 I don't get the point, should I train everyday or nah? I'm not British so I don't get where are the jokes and where are the serious points lel
@drewgrit_
@drewgrit_ 11 ай бұрын
Hello hello! No problem at all, I will do my best to clarify. Number 5 is trying to get across that you shouldnt get too excited about a release before its out because it might never see the light of day because ultimately as the producer, you dont have the authority to post it yourself, it is the artists decision. Therefore the your progress can be put on hold because you dont have complete control. Definitely still collaborate but just be cautious that a year of hard work could look like very little at the end because most of it isnt posted and its not your fault at all. I think the moral of the story is try to build yourself as a producer with a social media presence as well as working with artists. Number 6 is just simple example of you are always going to make mistakes and thats ok. And then i included an example of myself breaking a bit of gear I had by being stupid. In summary accept that you will make mistakes forever! I hope that makes sense my friend✌
