Perform a Power Cycle
Step 1 - Unplug all the power cables and turn off your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air by pressing and holding the “Power Button”.
Step 2 - Continue holding the power button for 10 more seconds and reconnect the cables. Keep pressing the power button for 10 more seconds.
Step 3 - Now, reboot your MacBook again and see if the issue of Mac won’t start up is gone or not.
Check Your Adapter and Charging Cable
In many cases, MacBook won’t turn on issue arises due to a faulty AC adapter/charging cable. Try swapping the adapter and the cable with a different one to see if MacBook turns on or not. In case it’s working fine with the new cable/adapter, the only solution would be to replace the entire charging setup with a new one.
Check the Hardware
If you’re using Mac Desktop, the issue might be caused due to loosely connected cables. Take a look at the cables and make sure that each connection is firm. In case you’ve recently opened your Mac to install a new hardware component like a hard-drive or a RAM, this might also cause the Mac won’t turn on issue. In this case, either reinstall the old hardware or make sure that each component is perfectly placed in its socket.
Reset the NVRAM
Step 1 - Shut down your MacBook.
Step 2 - Simultaneously press and hold “Command + Option + P + R” keys and wait for your MacBook to turn on.
Step 3 - Your MacBook will play the second reboot chime. Release all the keys once you hear the sound.
Reset System Management Controller
Step 1 - Shut down your MacBook and unplug the power cable.
Step 2 - Connect the power cable again and press the Shift + Ctrl + Option/Alt keys and the power button simultaneously.
Step 3 - Release all the buttons at the same time and you’ll notice a small flicker in your power cable’s light. This is an indication that SMC has been reset successfully.
Step 4 - Restart your MacBook and check if the “MacBook Air does not turn on” issue is gone or not.
Re-Install MacOS
Reinstalling the entire MacOS would probably the last solution on your list.
Step 1 - Shut down your MacBook and press the power button again. Boot it in recovery mode by pressing “Command + R”.
Step 2 - The macOS utility window will appear on your screen with different options. Use the arrow keys to choose “Reinstall macOS”.
Step 3 - If asked, enter your Apple ID and continue with the process. It may take several minutes for the OS to reinstall completely.
Step 4 - Once the setup wizard quits, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process.

Unplug the charger, hold down Shift+Control+Option+Power button for 10 seconds, then release all at once. Plug back the charger and press the power button normally. This worked for me. After your system comes on, shutdown and do the SMC reset to prevent the issue from recurring Let's know if this works for you.

Sadly, none of this worked for me but I found the process easy to follow. Perhaps you should have mentioned that re-installing the OS means losing any data not backed up to external storage. Luckily I had learned this from another online help video but others may not be aware of it.

This tutorial saved me from purchasing a brand new MacBook Pro. I acquired the very first version from an Apple Store 15 years ago and never had any problems with it until about a month ago when the screen went black. I followed the instruction by removing the back, disconnecting the battery, and the reconnecting it. The computer’s screen turned on immediately. A few days later while I was working on it the screen went black again. I re-visited the tutorial and followed the instructions to remove the internal memory boards, clean the connector, and re-insert them. The screen lit right up and my computer is operating as if it were brand new. The so-called technicians at the Apple Store’s “GENIUS BAR” didn’t have a clue as to what to do and advised me to purchase a new computer. Boy, were they wrong!

I've a MacBook Pro late 2012 model and I merely had any issue with my mac until now. Actually since few months back there was an issue with the charger. I had to put something right beneath or on top of the charging head in order to charge. Recently I repaired it but unfortunately till then my mac's completely drained out of power. And now it refuses to take charge or if it's charging (only green light is showing up; don't know even if it's charging) it's not turning on. Checked the charger with other macs and it's charging 'em showing orange light after connecting but not in my macbook. What could be the issue, it's so frustrating... Can anybody suggest any solution, it would be highly appreciated.

Worked! Needed to reset “SMC” I didn’t get a flicker in the power light but the screen did flash battery at 100% next time I pressed the power button the Mac book powered on. Whew! Before this, looking at a dead screen really had me upset. Showing a text across the screen in your presentation of each method was very helpful. Explaining what each method was resetting was interesting and shows you clearly understand what you’re talking about. This saved me a trip to the “Genius Bar” and the hassle and delay of trying to arrange an appointment. Sincerely, Thank You!

Thank you dude! One of those button combinations worked for me when I noticed the light on the charging chord blink into a different color. I almost started unscrewing the back plate and try disconnecting the battery etc. but I didn't have to. Thank you!

My MacBook appears to be stuck in a boot up cycle. The boot up chime rings, then silence for a few seconds, the it does it again. Screen isn’t black, more like a really dark purple. So there appears to be power happening, but not much more. The thing died at the end of a Zoom Guitar lesson I was giving. Any suggestions on what to do? Apple store said it’s most likely the logic board?

hey my mac doesn’t have a light on the charger cable, but when i reset the SMC a message appeared on the screen indicating me that it had no battery. Is the problem the battery then? I haven’t changed the AC adapter yet.

Step #5 of this video seems to have done the trick! My Air was 'dead' and I was worried that it was going to the graveyard but by following step 5 (SWC I think you said it was called), I seem to be back up and almost running. Fingers crossed. Thank you for this video! My old Macbook pro crashed suddenly while watching a video on youtube. Unfortunately there was no way to restart it. The battery was still fine but when pressing the power button only the hard drive turned on but no starting sound appeared and the lights on the keyboard (and the screen) did not turn on. Eventually I decided to remove the hard drive to get my data and that worked. However, now my new macbook did also crash during youtube. Though it did immediately restart thinking of my old one this makes me a bit uneasy :/ I wonder If others have the same issue. I never watch yt in high resolution.

Thanks a lot, your 5th method of resetting the System Management Controller worked on my Macbook Pro 2015 model, saved me opening and disconnecting the battery!! And yes, my Macbook Pro was dead and not powering up. Appreciate the effort you put in to explain things clearly.

Follow up question how can I know that my macbook is charging? Cause when I unplugged it it suddenly turned off so I repeated the steps in step one and it worked again but same issue it's not charging and the indication in the batter is "X"

I white screen of deathed today where it looks like it's starting up but doesn't move past a certain point. I noticed something was wrong yesterday when I studied it down but it was refusing to shut down (stuck in he black screen but not actually switching off for hours) but I thought after restarting it would be fixed guess not. hi I have got some flickering issues and it get freezes after flicker and does nothing then I have too turn it off and then on again. When I turn it on again, it does not show any display and goes blank but keyboard lits up always. Hi there. I didn't have any power at all in my Macbook Air 2017 1466. Wouldn't even get a green or orange light when plugged in. Nothing. I just changed my i/o board and have power now but it won't turn on at all. I tried all of these steps and none worked. Pitch black, won't even make a sound. Any suggestions of what my issue could be?

Thank you 😢. Alt, control, option and power key combo worked for me. My Mac was completely dark, usually when the power was dead, it show the charger symbol. I also charged it and nothing was showing. After the Alt, control, option and power key combo my Mac turned on.

I was so frustrated because nothing was working for me, and while trying another key combination I unexpectedly made it work again! I was holding the power button down (I have a MacBook Pro 2019 touch bar) and accidentally pressed the DELETE button, which is right next to the power button, and it came back to life again like nothing happened! I have no idea what was the problem. My laptop was on, I closed the lid, and when I opened it back it was completely dead. It was making the "charging" noise when plugging in the power cord though. I share this hoping it helps out someone out there, cuz it's so damn frustrating not finding a solution. It's kind of funny how I did.
