Visordown has been living with an Energica Eva electric motorcycle for about three months now.
Harry's ridden the Eva daily through central London and on 250 mile round trip to Bruntingthorpe proving ground.
Here's what we make of the Eva e-motorcycle.

Great review nailed the plus points of EV bikes. I run a Zero SRF premuim, GSXR 1000 K5, Cagiva Raptor 1000, Honda CB750 SOHC K0. The Zero is monster reactive to the throttle just as the EVA the torque is clipped until your moving at 30mph + thats why they are so devastatingly fast above 30 without torque clipping wheelies, snapped chains/drive belts would be order of the day.............wheelies would be good but hey ho. In most A and B road situations the Zero is the quickest bike. Power feels like GSXR, weight same as CB750 (220Kg lighter than EVA at 280 but has 14Kwh battery compared to 21Kwh on EVA so range down a bit and power/torque). Handles like the Raptor. Have fun and get 80 miles take it easy and get 100 but ive never managed that. My guess is the Zero will be as quick as EVA up to 100mph as belt drive and less weight but who knows they are all fun personally i like the quietness of the belt but then again ive not snapped one yet. Wont ever nut another gas bike, still do up classics though, like riding steam engines lol

I own one of these and yes, It's dope! Acceleration off the line is great but, the acceleration from 40 to 80 MPH is equally exciting. Traveling in my area where there aren't any DC fast chargers is a problem. I do ride about 50 miles every day. Plug in when I get home and ready to go in the AM. I still own an ICE bike for long trips. The EV still doesn't cut it for that here in the states or anywhere. It will take 2x as long because ride one hr charge one hr. Just like I have different skis for different days out on a mountain I have a different bike for different rides. EVs are here and are dope/fun/insert whatever adjective here to ride.

3:20 that's why I really think for these electric motorcycles they should add a second gear for prolonged highway use. Something that maybe wouldn't have such monstrously strong acceleration but drops the rpms down to save battery.

Yes, the drag increases by the square of velocity. It may add some benefit but also a transmission add weight there is a SWaP trade space. Nothing is free.

That is an interesting looking bike ... Rosso III are decent sticky tires, should be fine. I tried Rosso II and sporty riding was cool.

I wasn't into e-bikes either. I own a BMW R1250R and I am quite happy with it. InSeptember I got the chance to take a ride on a Zero SR/F and that was quite amazing. The only drawback was that I was able to run down the batterie in less than 100km. As far as I know the Energica batterie last a lot longer and the Ribelle looks awesome - I would like to have one as second bike!

Great video! You don't need to replace the battery after 1200 cycles though ;). It only has 80% capacity left of the original capacity. You can still carry on with that battery. So no worries there.

I really like electric vehicles, but at the moment only electric city scooters really make sense, especially the ones with removable batteries, you can commute to work, pop the battery out and charge in the office (for free, cheers boss)
@myxonomania
@myxonomania 4 жыл бұрын
Well, on an electric motorcycle you can even ride to work, back and do some extra miles - just for fun. And then there still is some charge left. Just charge it overnight at home - takes about an hour on mine (Zero SR/F). And that was the main reason to buy the bike - to commute on the cheap. Plus, when packing the charge cable you don't have to rely on charge stations - just ask your friendly house owner if you could top up your bike - makes for interesting conversations as well as a cheap and comfy load. I usually give people a fiver for their trouble and take away a nice conversation and some fuel. Electric scooters are great as well. It all really depends on your situation, really, doesn't it?

@CodeZombie
@CodeZombie 5 жыл бұрын
A chap in the USA is looking to do an Iron Butt on one of these, so far he's hit just shy of 900 miles in 24 hours, so the NC500 would be a breeze for one of these bikes. (plus there are plenty of chargers on the NC500 route)

H-cell is the next big thing, this is just a stepping stone. The tehnology is just not ready yet, it will need loads of development, e-racing is in kids shoes with time it will become refined. Nice review btw, keep it up. Cheers

Hydrogen is dead in terms of mobility solutions! It is to ineffective, the Hydrogen fuel cells don't last long when used like in a motorcycle, and it's too spacious to be fit in a motorcycle and have fun with it

Call BS on the "We clocked 130-135mph on it". The achilles heel of all these bikes is that energica only let you do 124mph. it goes like hell and then all of a sudden it just stops... right there and then the R1 comes up from behind half a second later and doubles your pace and then it's gone.. sorry. but if energica want people to consider spending 20 grand for a naked, they need to make it faster than an SV650 not only off the line but at the limit too. hitting a fat programmed wall at 124mph is just evidence that there's a weakness to this bike that energica doesn't want us to find. I'll bet it can do in excess of 180mph if unlocked, but the battery will pop or the controller will burn out. The almighty Ego is capable of - drum roll - ... 150mph. the same speed as your dads VFR but instead you pay 25 grand.

I will be all over an electric bike, once they're well under £10000, have a 200 mile range at motorway speeds and can charge from 0 to at least 80% in 10-20 minutes.

The charging is there already. flat to full in twenty minutes - only costs about £1.30 too. As Harry said in the review, that charge can get him 100 miles of steady riding with the occasional blast.
@CodeZombie

200 miles at motorway speeds! Not many petrol bikes can manage that either. I'd say 150 miles on the motorway is more where they need to be. That's I guess something like a 30kWh battery, so doable in the foreseeable future.

Electric cars are fine, but for a motorcycle it is best to keep the combustion engine.
@Neojhun
@Neojhun 4 жыл бұрын
LOL no it's the opposite. It's much harder to do a long range BEV Car that you will use up range easily. But Sport Bike with enough battery range for vast majority of rides is much more plausible. In a few years time when 25kwh battery fits in just over 220kg bike that should be enough range for most people. Helps to have 50kw CCS charging also.
