Hey fam! I hope that you are doing well! This is just a BRIEF list of individuals from the Caribbean or of Caribbean descent who have greatly impacted U.S history or culture in some way. By no means is this a full and extensive list of the incredible individuals who have made history or who are currently making history. A video of all the accomplishments of West Indian people or people of West Indian descent would be too long of a video to do for this series. That being said, I am proud, and you should be too, to know that the accomplishments and impact of West Indian people is far reaching and long lasting! That, within itself, is a blessing and pays testament to the beauty of being West Indian.
Please remember that the point of this series is to uplift the Caribbean, its people, and to provide brief insight into the historical and cultural contexts of the islands. From these episodes, I hope that you will go out and explore more about various topics regarding the Caribbean!
I hope that you enjoy this episode and look forward to the next episodes to come!

Toussaint l'ouverture should be #1 because without him almost half of the US would probably still belong to France, also what he helped accomplish had impacted the entire world for good or bad

Absolutely! Toussaint l'ouverture set the precedent for enslaved Blacks throughout the world and the fight for independence from European colonial powers for all people. I wish he was celebrated more often by all because his impact has served the world tremendously. thank you for taking a watch and sharing your comment! this particular video was in no particular order :)

Hello! Thanks for taking the time to watch the video! Indeed he is the best and one of the most important figures in introducing Negritude to the world through his teachings and writings! While I did not get the chance to mention him in this video, I included a link in the description box to a more extensive list (with room to be added to) with more Caribbean leaders, heroes, and influencers. He is included on this list. Feel free to take a look if you so choose. All the Best, Lyndsay

Just to let you know, many of our surnames weren't even European, but African. Some or many are spelled a little corrupt. For instance: Chisholm (Igbo) Ture (Tureg),

Cool fam. But why are you calling Caribbeans African Americans? African Americans is the dynonym for specifically the American blacks. We would still be Caribbean or Caribbean Americans.

Thanks for watching! Thanks for your feedback, I see what you're saying. When I say African-American, in my mind, I am referring to their influence in regards to overall Black history. In this case, I should have specified by using the term "Black American" instead of "African-American" for specificity, inclusion of all Blacks within the diaspora, and linkage of how both African-American history & Caribbean American history have influenced each other. I'm an Africana Studies major so I should have been more clear than that lol! Thank you!

Eugene Miles yes.....but the point of this video is to showcase those with Caribbean ancestry. Many of the people on this video are either from the islands or have Caribbean ancestry by way of their parents. Malcolm x is from the United States, like myself, but his mother, Louise Little was from Grenada.
