Harbor Freight is famous for hits and misses. I liked their electric chainsaw, so I figured I'd shell out $60 of my own cash and give the Portland Pole Chainsaw an Honest Review from assembly to trees. The results were very surprising.

Cut down 6 adult pines, notch cuts, with this. Heights 25-40 ft. Largest cuts 12 inch trunks. Unbelieveable. Plus once the tree is on the ground, don't have to bend over to cut it to pieces. My back is happy. Way less effort than my friends $450 (steel) chainsaw that he brought over, quieter and little safer too. For the lower parts of the trees I just made two cuts to cut them fully. One tree fell with the saw stuck in it, I bound the saw up twice (my fault impatient) motor started smoking. Still works great. I also used junk leftover oil I had in it. Best $65 saw ever.

You gave an absolute honest review!! I bought one in Fl and worked the heck out of that thing for about 3 years, cutting a little bit of every kind of tree and palm. Then I moved and gave it to a friend who loved it as much as I did!! I'm looking to find my way to another Harbor Freight where I now live to get another Portland Pole chainsaw. Love 'em.

I bought this cause of your review, I’m not the type that needs some high end expensive tool that puts out 900 hp or some bs. Because they are good tools that’s cheaper and do one hell of a job like this one. I cut up some serious branches with it and it sliced thru like butter. Thank you for the review.

That saw is a beast!!! Me and a buddy took down about 5 trees at least 24” in width and at least 40’ high. Had to sharpen then eventually change the blade but it’s still going strong after a few drops too.

Thanks for this review! Got this baby today for 50 bucks on sale at HFT. Even with his tallest ladder, my husband couldn't quite reach a broken/dead branch that is hanging near the house. Landscaper quoted me 50 dollars to trim one branch, but I thought I'd check out pole saw prices. Very glad I did. Now the hubs can not only trim that branch himself, but anything else he may need to trim up high in the future. Sweet. Thanks again for the video.

My man... You're not lying. The Craftsman pole saw I bought was not only crazy heavy (and an actual hand held chainsaw with an adapter to put it on a pole) but it was also DOA out of the box. Took it back to Ace Hardware and they couldn't get it running either. I got refunded and drove straight to HF (I saw your video while I was troubleshooting the Craftsman) and bought this model. Got it home, put it together and two hours of work later I'm all done for the season. Cut some 10" limbs with it. There were NO problems other than my sloppy cutting techniques. This is an AWESOME piece of hardware for the price and would be at double the price. Thank you! Liked, subscribed...

I bought one. Paid for itself on day one. This saw is great. I am having a problem with it staying extended. Locking mechanism doesn’t seem to be holding all that well. It isn’t a big deal right now I just have to keep extending it and relocking. If it gets any worse I’ll put a hose clamp on it or some other type of clamp to hold it. Other than that I love this saw.

Blaise, glad to hear you like your's I also use mine a lot. The hose clamp would be a great more permenant solution. I would think several loops of electrical or 1 inch duct tape would also help keep it in place and may be easier to adjust on the fly.

last year I rented a 2 stroke pole saw. Powerful and very quick cutting. BUT, it was heavy and quickly became cumbersome. Cost around $65-$70 dollars for 24 hours (plus fuel) This year, H.F. Summer Black Friday deals, this was $50! I got twice as much done, w/ half the effort (it's so much lighter). It does not cut as quickly as a gas one, but it's plenty quick - and so much easier to handle! It doesn't look/feel like it will last years and years w/ moderate to heavy use, but I suspect it would w/ light to moderate use and proper care. For $50-$75, it's a slam dunk! For $80-$95, it's a solid buy, absolutely. $100-$115, not a bad choice. $120 and up, you can get something more durable (imho) ✌️

I used my HFT polesaw just today. Took down an 8” circumference cedar tree to the ground plus very hard live oak branches. Unfortunately my chain is a little dull even though I hand sharpened it earlier. I miss my old Remington 10” corded polesaw that I beat the snot out of. I guess they are no longer being made. worx looks very similar to it. But now they have engineered some fancy auto adjusting chain tensioner. Reviewers are giving it bad reviews because it loosens up making the chain slip off. My HFT saw never failed me today!

@@MakeItorBreakItNow Spring like day here today so had a perfect day to test it out. Very impressed and it works great and will get a 5 star rating from me. Was able to reach limbs without a ladder and was able to trim thick brush near the ground that I could not easily reach. Was really a great buy and am very pleased with it. One note though...instructions call for SAE30 oil for the chain lube instead of regular bar and chain oil. I may contact them and ask if bar and chain oil is OK to use in it.

I bought this and noticed the owners manual says to soak the chain overnight in chain oil before assembly and 1st use. Why do all these pole saw videos on youtube not mention this? Seems logical to start out with the chain, the groove in the chain bar guide, and all the links well oiled.

@@MakeItorBreakItNow I read reviews of all the battery operated pole saws. There were issues with almost all of them, but every review of the Portland mentions no issues. So I spent my money on 150' of 12 gauge extension cord which I had determined that I needed to reach all of my trees from the electrical outlets. I've soaked the chain in bar oil and am now ready to assemble the saw and go to work.
