I had the exact same problem after my first use and thankfully figured it out like you did. It's perfect for us at our camp where we get fallen trees or branches once and a while but I didn't want or need a full gas powered one. Thx for confirming the same "fix" that I did. Now I'm just going to double check that but is tight!

I have (2) Kobalt 80-volt 18" Bar Chainsaws and use (2) 5 AH Batteries. Using it on a Southeast LA farm that was devastated by a Hurricane and has been working absolutely great even cutting huge logs and trees. For oil, I like to use Ryobi Bar and chain oil. And NO more pulling and pulling to start a gas-powered chainsaw. My first 80-volt 18" Bar Chain saw with a 5-AH Battery and charger was $400 in Jul 2021. it is still being sold on Lowes website as of 5/26/2024 - I use them on a Southeast LA farm of 18 acres of tall large pine trees that was devastated by a Hurricane with a tornado 10 acres of the property nearly all the trees are down or dead. My chainsaws have been working great even cutting huge logs and trees up to 20"+ logs and it works great. I am also using the 80-volt 10” Pole saw, lawnmower, and Leaf Blower.

I live on several acres of densely forested land and have to do quite a bit of cutting. I own both gas and electric saws, and while the gas saws are a bit more powerful and don't need a cord, the maintenance and hassle of keeping them running makes me lean toward the electric. I have two heavy duty 100' extension cords which allow me to get to 2/3 of my property, and I've found that my Honda 2000 generator runs the saw just fine if I need to go further afield. I haven't used a gas saw for several years now. And with the rapid improvement of battery-powered chainsaws, I might just go cordless when my current electric saw finally dies.

I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzfaq.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

I just bought this chain saw yesterday, 7/29/22, and it works fine for me. Just cut down some big oak limbs. Saved myself a lot of money.

Good video and review! Sometimes an electric chainsaw is much more convenient especially for a home owner that only uses it once a year or less. Nothing worse than wasting a bunch of time trying to troubleshoot a 2 stroke that doesn’t want to run or even dealing with rechargeable batteries that don’t hold much charge because they’ve been sitting too long. Hate wasting more time on the tool for a task rather than the task itself😤 If I grab one I’ll make sure to snug up that bar nut. Thanks!

I have wood lots full of 80+ feet high Northern Hemlock that are dying because the climate is getting too warm, wind storm damage, old, etc., and this saw is perfect for some of the cutting I am doing. I have four of these that I have been using over several years. I buy Walmart replacement chains in a three-pack for about $15, $5 each, I don't bother to sharpen them when they get dull. To keep them sharp as long as possible, keep the sheath on, and when off never put the blade on the ground, set it on the sheath, and of course never ever touch the ground when cutting! Today I cut up a wet 8" - 10" log about 10' long. The secret of using this, and any other chainsaw, is to keep the chain SHARP. Keep oil in the reservoir so the chain doesn't run dry. I use old waste oil from auto and mowers, works great. It gives the oil a second use. But store the saw upright so the oil does weep its way out. Now to technique. He trimmed the branches off the top all the way down the log, OK. But then he cut the trunk all the way down the log. Nope, better way, easier and less hassle, start at the small end of the log and cut sections off the log, (small for easier lifting/moving) until you get to the first branch holding up the log. Trim this supporting branch, there are plenty of branches still holding up the log. Cut the log in manageable sections down to the next supporting branch. And then repeat, all the way down the log. Easy and easier! Second, the chain is brand new and is going to stretch the most it will during its life. So, make sure the chains is snug. The reason it came off was because it was loose. Do not be afraid to tighten the chain, the motor is strong enough, so don't be shy about tightening the chain. Make sure you can move the chain, even if it is a bit hard to move. Next, WEAR GLOVES when you are adjusting the chain! If you slip you may get an unpleasant cut or scrape. In case you are wondering I use a Sportsman 20 in. 52 cc 2-Stroke Rear Handle Gas Chainsaw from Home depot for $99 several years ago, for the 24" bigger stuff. It is amazing what this $40 (cheapest was $37) chainsaw can do!

Great review, I've been thinking about purchasing one of these and you've helped me in my decision. This is not your fault but I've made it a habit, whenever possible, to check all the nuts and bolts of small appliances and tools before using them for the first time. Let's not assume that everyone takes pride in their workmanship anymore. The people working the assembly lines of these companies are judged and critiqued on how many per hour. Just purchased the newest version, Feb 2023. I have had several electric chain saws in the past so I'm not new. The chain came off completely in 10 minutes. Had to remove cover and reinstall. Over the next 2 hours I spent more time putting chain back on than sawing. When it it did saw it was excellent. I notice on the end of the primary gear for chain drive there is only a thin washer that keeps chain from slipping off. Chain would slip between washer and gear stopping sawing. Best cutter I've had but chain issues drive you nuts. Also, the cord feature is too lightweight for a heavy duty cord so plan on spending alot of time plugging it back in. Out of five stars a 3. 2 stars for excellent cutter and add a star it's cheap. The no tools chain adjustment seems like a good idea but just works poorly.

that call back is on harbor freight modle number 67255 it has a faulty switch - it will be replaced with 64498 also the 67255 had problems with the fiber gear failing there also were a lot of complains on the operation of the switch being uncomfortable to the user - the module 64498 has excellent reviews up to this point with few complaints about operating the switch or the failure of the fiber sprocket drive

Same nut issue happened to me . I changed out he nut for a nylon lock nut. Issue solved, never came lose again

I always struggle with loosening or tightening the chain to much. Used my brother -in-laws electric chainsaw on mesquite which can be really hard and it worked like a champ. Beats cutting eight inch or ten inch diameter trunks by hand.

As far as the amp drop off with a long cord, I always buy the heaviest gauge extension cords for tools. First time I ran into that problem using a small compressor for nailing. Wouldnt has enough “oomph” to restart under pressure with a crappy cord. Should have used more airline but didn’t have enough. Use that cheaper lightweight extension cords for Christmas lights.

Used mine for 2 years abused heavy and the tensior bolt finally would hold tension for more than one cut so i got thier new one and its iffy looking at its set up

I have to say, for the price, this is an amazing tool. I put a iregon self sharpening chain and bar on it and its been really good. Keep it sharp and this thing will perform.

I bought one and it works excellent. Best deal for the money. I have more trees, it's excellent for home duties. I opted not to spend $300 for a chainsaw and bought this for less than the cost to rent one for a day. I know a guy who cuts down trees for $100 per tree, which isn't a bad deal, but this alternative is obviously still better.

Went to cut wood today from pile but could not start my Husky. Terrible arthritis in my knuckles. So I need an electric saw. Your review- helpful. When blade loosened, chain came off. hmmn. Was looking at an Oregon.

Mine started blowing smoke out the motor now will just move slowly, it's toast after only using it three times. Hated the chain adjuster, aways had to mess with that little hex wrench adjuster up front and it's a pain to get to.

I use a generator in the woods for other tools and mi gas chanesaw so this is good for cutting tendons and nutches depending on what time of work you do that one screw to hold the bar mm mm don't look good caind of shifty I will put a tension washer on it

It doesn't have a wrap around handle so it's going to be difficult doing horizontal cuts.

For the cost and the service or life u, will get out of that saw it can't be beat - I know there might be a bad saw in the bunch - I've recommend it to 7 different people that burn wood for heat - I haven't heard any complaints in 3 yrs - also I've cut several cords with mine they work well enough up to 12 inch rounds - I have cut much larger rounds - they have to be wedged as u go thru them and it's slow going - sence the chain travels slow compared to a gas saw the chain just doesn't ware out it won't stretch out as it does on a gas saw - also if you use a file to sharpen the saw it also doesn't ware out lol - I'm on my third winter cutting with that saw - the chain is only 60% streched but the cutters are getting real small from sharpening them over 3 yrs - in colder regions the chain could last thru a winter I would think

I love mine but you make a great point. The instructions and the diagram included in them are completely worthless. I also battled with mine for a little while last weekend due to having that spacer in backwards. They definitely could have done a better job on that instruction manual.

Gas chainsaws are always a pain in the ass to start especially the off brand ones electric ones are easier to use.

@5:08 yeah this is why i went cordless. cord wrangling sucks. but i've done a decent amount of work with a cordless saw. if someone doesn't want a gas saw and isn't gonna buy a bunch of batts for an cordless, a corded saw is still a very good choice, and they are CHEAP. i never paid more than $25 each for the cordless saws i have owned and if you destroy it, so what!

Just got mine today, big ice storm in the Midwest. About 20 minutes into cutting, my chain popped off as well. I ended up overtorquing that chain guard bolt and rounded off the internal housing on the other side of that external bolt. Really made me pretty angry, but I’m gonna get one more and try it out. Wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem

I bought one of these long enough ago for the 90 day warranty to be long forgotten. It worked well enough to begin with then after some relatively intermittent uses the chain began to slip & ultimately stopped. Looking inside, I found a ~4 inch PLASTIC idler gear between the metal motor gear and the metal chain gear. Metal teeth against plastic teeth. No way the plastic is going to last. The metal gear teeth ate up the plastic gear teeth. It's not worth the money. If you read the one star reviews on the Harbor Freight page, this is mentioned frequently.

My wife got this in one: "People shouldn't be using that. It's a big dangerous machine, just spend the money."

If you think about it you are using that chainsaw pretty heavy-duty, and it really wasn't meant for that. All that electric chainsaw was meant for was cutting twigs and things that a hedge trimmer can't do and once in awhile something as big as what you're doing.
