On the last day of 2022. Me and a group of friends dined at Le Coucou, a Michelin one star restaurant in lower east Manhattan, NYC serving classic, old-school French fine dinning. This restaurant has an a la carte menu but also a tasting menu for the new year. We opted for a la carte menu so that we can try and share a variety of dishes.
Food
Gourmandises (appetizers with more butter and crea)
Quenelle de brochet, sauce américaine
Foie gras poche au Sauternes
Ris de veau à l'éstragon
Les Plats (entree)
Tout le lapin
Canette Sainte-Baume
Dessert
Mont Blanc
Tarte landaise aux pruneaux
Marjolaine
We also got a bottle of wine to pair the dinner.
Domaine Ostertag Vin d'Alsace, 2018 Fronholz, Pinot Noir
The final price including tax and tips turned out to be $660 for three people, and a solid $200+ per person. This is definitely a steep price for an a la carte menu. Is it worthy of the price and a Michelin star? Watch the whole video to find out.

Aesthetically the food looks great, simple, but executed incredibly well. But considering such a heafty price tag, wow, i dont know. More so: how did you feel after the meal? Everything looked so incredibly rich and heavy, I'd break out in sweats while still eating. Big portions, too!

I was with a group of three people and none of us ate lunch so that meal filled us pretty good. In fact we were so hungry that we consumed two baskets of bread before the entree even arrive 😂

I wouldn’t complain about getting asked to be discrete shorting a video in a Michelin star restaurant. I would have asked you to book the house.

As a french gourmet, the price for this meal is fkin ridiculous for classics of french gastronomy. I hope the flavours are indescribable because visually it does not look as a 1* Michelin. (lol the 4 mignardises in a white round plate) The portions seem to be quite gargantuan btw! I Too much no? Try Maison Rostang if you go to Paris, they revisit the best of the best of the French gastronomy for half the price and don't forget the wine pairing, it's one of the best.

It was quite expensive, but like you said at least the portion was big to make up for it. I will surely take note on the one in Paris! Thanks!

Sorry, you turned me off with this video by disparaging the restaurant for having rules about folks like you who bring their cameras and equipment and disrupting other diners’ experiences. Too many people like yourself filming meals. Put away the cameras and just eat.
@Fufski
@Fufski Жыл бұрын
I didn't disparage the restaurant since they did need to inform me if some diner brought this up, but I do have problems with the diners that think they are too good to allow the presence of a camera in this semi-public space that is far far away from them. I was sitting in a corner and the camera was away from any table; those tables weren’t even the subject. I’m usually very careful to not have unrelated people appearing directly in the frame. In fact, I’m much more bothered by the often excessive loud noise coming from the nearby tables but I didn’t for a single time ask them to lower their voices because I know in a restaurant things like this can happen, so can people walk in with a camera to eat with them as long as they are not bothering people with an excessively loud noise, which many people without camera failed to do.

@@Fufski Understood but maybe food and restaurant bloggers such as yourself might want to think about how all of your equipment and cameras are considered a nuisance to other people in the restaurant, including those that work there and other patrons. You’ve got to understand that premier restaurants such as this one, not everyone is enthused, enamored, wants to, or enjoys being involuntarily part of, or having to endure people such as yourself whose primary reason for being there is to record pictures and video of yourself eating good, … rather than just eating food with your party of guests. Sometimes people just want to enjoy a great meal without cameras , you know… how people used to do before video food blogging.

Well, one thing people also need to understand is that no one can make everyone happy. I certainly can’t make everyone happy nor am I trying to. I am fairly considerate when it comes to these occasions as I never talk loudly while eating and filming and I always try to get an angle that does not cause disturbance to other guests in the vicinity. But I can’t however, consider the exhaustive possibility that some unforeseen workers or diners aren’t happy because I brought a camera in a semi-public space. People all want to enjoy a great meal and the camera is clearly not at their table or closely pointed at them, but if they want complete privacy with no cameras in the internet age of 2023, they pay extra for a private room, simple as that. Also, other guests don’t have to be enthused, enamored, or enjoy the fact I’m there recording videos of me eating food because it’s none of their business and I paid to dine there just as they did. The same goes for the fact I don’t enjoy being involuntarily part of or having to endure their noisy conversation which disrupted my dining experience. And in fact, many of my followers are seasoned diners, chefs, managers, executives, and owners themselves working at premium restaurants around the world such as this one, and they love my content. Not only they don’t have a problem with this, but oftentimes they even invite me for a meal at their establishments to shoot content. Yes, you are right, not everyone may be happy with this, but I’m not here to make everyone happy nor am I happy with everyone else, which circles back to my point at the beginning. Thank you for your understanding.

@@Fufski Sorry, your sort of grand statement "one thing people also need to understand is that no one can make everyone happy." is just full of eye rolls. Your statements come off as condescending. Just realize that your camera work, and your vlogging in restaurants can come off as distracting and annoying to others, no matter what you think. And actually, why don't you grab a private room at the restaurant so as not to distract others with your camera work.
@Fufski
@Fufski Жыл бұрын
Sorry, I'm just telling you a simple reality and I think I have made my point very clear. Despite my effort to be considerate due to "realize your camera work might be distracting...", I can't accommodate for all possible situations and the ones that demand the extremes. I am distracted and annoyed by other tables' excessive loud noise as well, where is their attitude? Sometimes the tables are so loud I can't even hear my own table talking, don't they realize that? Isn't that considered condescending if some people think they are too good and can't allow a camera in a semi-public space that's not even near them? Should I be annoyed and distracted by the fact that there is someone watching at my back because they don't like to see a camera despite not pointing at them? Fortunately, these people are extremely rare, at a rate that's comparable to an insurance policy. In a world like this, people need to coexist through mutual understanding and respect. If ones just demand others to do things without thinking about their own part, it doesn't work. Why don't I grab a private room? Because this is a public space and I don't demand extreme privacy. If you demand things that are above the average that people can offer, then you are the exception. Also, I run this channel so I need to shoot content, with all the aforementioned accommodations in place. Maybe the people demanding that I shut the camera should also pay me for the loss of dining costs and ad revenue produced that's worth multiple times this meal? Maybe you aren't happy because I refuse to back down on my own right, that I refuse to sacrifice my own benefit for other people's benefit (well, it could happen, but not here). Then that's exactly why I said I can't make everyone happy nor am I trying to. If you don't like people shooting videos in a restaurant, then you don't have to watch my videos, my friend. In fact, you shouldn't watch any food-related video shoot in a restaurant because there might always be someone who's not happy behind the scenes despite the video deciding to show it or not.
