First drive of my highly modified 964 Turbo that's aiming for 600hp. & some bad news as we find the crank seal is leaking so the gearbox has to come off again before we can get the car mapped.

Check the crankcase isn’t in positive pressure, this will case the crank seals to leak. Not sure what the breather systems is like on this but if you can use a vacuum crank case breather like on 997 GT3’s it may help elevate the seal weeping problem.

The crank seal theory is a good one - if it has worn, even to very slight tolerances with the position of the previous seal you fitted, and the new one is at ever so slight a different depth, it's definitely worth refitting a new seal to the position you had previously. Reminds me that I need to change the front seal on mine at some point....

Make some stainless steel spacers on the rear PCCB’s… the bells are stainless and this dissimilar material combination with the aluminum makes it reactive especially as the is carbon steel components there as well. Use Permatex aluminum antiseize past on the backs of the wheels if the hub area isn’t painted or you can end up with cold welded wheels stuck on the car and bad pitting👍

@driftworks

This was simple as it was a non structural part. Taking meat off the back of a wheel is difficult. It depends on how thick that section is & how deep the wheel bolt tapers were drilled.

@AndyNguyenExplorer
@AndyNguyenExplorer 2 жыл бұрын
Its been awhile since I've watched the PCCB setup for the front so perhaps you covered it then but I'm curious why you didn't opt for the 997 PCCB calipers over the 991s. Those have a more traditional bracket arraignment over the more vehicle specialized mounting of the 991 caliper. Either way, super epic to see car this make such progress!

Regards the noise, have you got a v belt spacer shim on the outside of the two part pulley too? With no shims behind the locking nut it’ll make a right racket as it doesn’t clamp properly.
@driftworks
@driftworks 2 жыл бұрын
The Vbelt pulley is held on/together with three allen key bolts & they are tight. The pulley for the alternator is separate.
@mr.airgun6921
@mr.airgun6921 2 жыл бұрын
@@driftworks Sorry I meant the fan/alternator belt. The OE spacers (as you will know) go between the two parts of the pulley to set the belt tension. But if you haven’t got at least one spacer on the outside (right behind the nut) even though it’s ‘tight’ it won’t be and will make a racket. But I’m assuming that’s all out the window with your setup then? Cracking car.

@@driftworks I know exactly what you mean. I swapped a 525 HP Chevy LS3 into a Datsun 260Z, and that along with high end suspension and brake mods, I thought would make the perfect track day weapon. As long as it meets the emissions levels of the engine as set at the time of production I don't see it being a problem - remember that @Driftworks now has a much more modern EFI system with electronically controlled injectors, a far more complex wideband O2 sensor setup etc... I'd be willing to bet that at least one of the maps available on his ECU is far, far more efficient running than the ancient mechanical Bosch injection system and archaic discrete control-module based system of the original setup. Other than that, as long as the lights work, suspension and brakes are up to scratch and the car is structurally sound, I don't see what the problem is. Old cars are not subject to the test parameters of current vehicles.
