Love this car! Im a honda guy through an through an have had ever b series, k series made on either some spray on a good size snail. Had a z6 single cam makin in the 400+ on redlines dyno but this is just awesome lol ive been building sr20 s13's an b,k swapped civic/tegs since i was 14 but i think ima get me a Saturn jus to build for tha hell of it, jus to see what a stock block in a 95 sl2 can take lol inspiration vid.

@@allmotordc5rallmotorfa575 stock motor ion redline/cobalt ss is good for 500 wheel on a simple turbo swap. If your into fwd its a good option people do not really think of. And the eco tec series of engines goes down as some of the best 4 bangers avaliable.

I own a 01 sl2 myself

I have run em for years. my wife is still driving a 2000 sl1. they can be anything from cheap grocery getters to rally cars to dragsters. The only limiting factors are your imagination and cash flow haha.

It's because there made out of plastic the frame is the fenders bumpers and all the frame almost the roofs and Hoods are made of medal though

Torpedo Hairline try are very nice lol, cheap and fun is just a side effect. Don’t underestimate this vehicle

@@Thevamp1reking yeah, they're nice in a "different" way as saturn would say. Not exactly luxury (although the stereos are decent), but nice and lightweight kinda like a civic, and fairly reliable too. And cheap to buy one.

You probably have the LNF block if it's factory turbo'd. The LSJ block that came factory with a supercharger can handle more power than the lnf because the lnf block is basically an lsj modified to have better block cooling, which happened to make it weaker.

L61 2.2 block with lsj internals. So a combo of both engines avaliable in a Saturn ion.

I thought about an EJ swap but I'm having trouble imagining making a trans tunnel. K20/K24 is your best bet

@@ThatOddGarage yeah we’ve run into a bunch of issues that could be dealt with but are very time consuming. Luckily we never really got out of the planning stage. Now I’m looking at a Saab 9-2 Aero wagon. Not sure what I would do to it yet but the money I would invest in retrofitting the Saturn is better spent on a different vehicle

@@AustinJ to each their own! Saturn's are cool, and mine was ridiculously cheap. I'm thinking K20 with AWD from a CRV, as long as I can get the rear suspension figured out. I want to kill Camaros with it. Maybe some day. Good luck on your next build!

It was still getting tested out. Shifter cables weren't right due to using an f23 transmission. And it was still on a single disk clutch at this point. All got worked out later.

No they do not.

With forged rods and pistons and some type of forced induction you should be able to reach 300-400hp, with a built head probobly max 500 horsepower safely on the l61 block without getting a forged block, the problem with the non redlines isn’t the engine, it’s the eco… there is no tuning support for I believe 2004-2006 or 2007, because it has a different eco than all the other ions/cobalts/ eco tech platforms, so if you can figure out how to get a different ecu that’s supported by tuning company’s or just get a standalone you should have a lot of potential

The redline and the stock ion do not look alike. And hiw was it a related Saab. Do tell? The engine in a Saab was turbo. This was supercharged. You can swap short blocks. But thats about it.

@stevewill1940 its my car in the video. So sure I never owned one at all lmao. And I highly modified it. Engine is off a Saab but different forced induction. Came with different transmission the Saturn had no b pillar different bumpers and skirts then the base model 4 bolt hibs to 5 bolt etc etc. They are very different in many aspects from the Saab the base model ion and the cobalt ss. And my car in the video is a real ion redline. If you actually owned one you would know. Lmao.

My stock 2006 Saturn 2.2 is at 250k and still running great. ATM I’m looking to turn it into a car like what I just saw. The struts on my car are about the only thing that makes the car drive weird but even with them being bad you can still hit 110 easy but I def will be looking into a swap so that I can change it to a stick shift instead and hopefully get a quick car😊

Clutch was unhappy lol. But in this video shifter cables were not being held in the right position. Later went twin disk and secured the new cables better.

@jrlongmeat to be honest. For a street car missile. My favorite set up I had on that car was built motor tvs and a 100 shot on a progressive controller. Thing hauled ass and was a killer on highway 40 rolls.
