Vacation is over and now it's back to drawing pictures and writing poems for KZfaq. Our goal in this series is to both complete all 101 Poetry Prompts, and complete a drawing for each picture. It is a marathon undertaking, but we can do it if we are dedicated and persistent. In the end we will have a notebook filled with biographical pictures and drawings for some future generation to find. I might even print up a few copies if anyone wants to see the final work.
63 City Lights
1
This is a two part story,
From Colorado to Maryland,
And it may suggest what condition,
Our condition is in.
2
Laying face-up on a barn roof in Colorado,
Free from TV, phones, and cars,
Between Colorado Springs and Denver,
We marveled at the stars.
3
Even as children,
We knew this was a special place,
At this time and elevation,
We had a clear view of outer space.
4
Fast forward forty years,
It is the 1995 Christmas season,
Santa brought me a telescope,
I think my hints were the reason.
5
I guess that’s how Christmas goes,
With no kids around to glee,
As I’d longed for a telescope,
Now I’d have one in DC.
6
I got it out and set it up,
But the thing hardly worked,
All I saw was washed out haze,
Everywhere that I looked.
7
I got into it a little deeper,
And try as I might,
I had traded my 1958 view of outer space,
For a view of city lights.
