This is NOT part of the 2nd Z/28 in Garnet Red being restored on this channel
This video is Part 9 of my 69 Camaro Z28 Full Frame Off Restoration Video Series. This video features the Restoration of the Front & Rear Suspension. I will be showing each step of the restoration process of this restoration in real time. I hope it will be enjoyable and informative and I welcome all comments and input. I have posted more videos on the disassembly of this 69 Camaro Z28 showing the Dash Disassembly and both the front and rear suspension removal, Restoration & Re-Assembly and the Painting Process.

Wouldn't be more less work-intensive to send the inner fenders to something like Redi Strip? Or blasting with a non aggressive media?

Great job but alot of work! Next time consider using a heat gun or map gas torch and heat from opposite side and the undercoating will flake and brush right off! Then send to the blaster and have them lightly blast clean all the paint and surface rust. I suggest welding up the staple holes and carefully drilling and prefitting the new staples as they are slightly different spacing than the oem staples and flaps. After blasting, immediately topcoat with a premium 2k epoxy primer sealer such as Valspar vp50. Then continue on with any light bodywork and priming before paint. A skim of body filler right over the scuffed epoxy works magic to smooth out any rust pitting and or small imperfections. Don't forget to run a tight, I mean tight like wipe off 99% external showing sealer and leave it only in the seams where multiple panels overlap to ensure nothing will creep between layers and wake up any sleeping giants later on! 👍

Hi JR Thank you very much for that valuable info. I will definitely do that on my Hugger Orange car that I am starting on. By the way, I kept the old staples, I wonder if they could be used

@@digitalpizza1 you might experiment with the old staple and see if they break during the second bending or heat up before you bend back may help

May I ask why you don't use acid to clean the rust? It's so much faster, and there's a lot less chance for leaving rust behind.

Are you planning on keeping the car or selling? Beautiful color combo...cant wait to see all the rest of the videos along the way!

Hi mgerg, I plan on keeping the car. I looked for 15 years for a good solid relatively rust free lemans blue project Z with original engine & trans. :) They are getting harder to find unrestored

How does one do a "frame off restoration" on a unit body car? ; )
@digitalpizza1
@digitalpizza1 3 жыл бұрын
Ha, yes you are technically correct, it would actually be a "sub-frame" off restoration. but of course the term really refers to the fact that the car is stripped completely. But i am sure you are just being facetious in a fun manner :)

@@digitalpizza1 - Correct. That's why I put the wink ; ) in there. But early Camaros, Novas, and Firebirds did have a removable front subframe. Looks like you did a fantastic resto on this F Body!

Media blast? You seen to have a shop with a lot of things us home garage guys don't. But not taking it 2 a blast shop is beyond me

I am not a fan of media blasting. It etches the metal and seems to take the smooth texture away. I did power wash them before and the material that I was removing was not only the surface rust, but 50 year old undercoating that is like petrified at this point. Again, I chose to do it the way I did it, and they turned out beautiful. Well worth the time.
