Here's a tip for getting more out of your 6volt battery for your deer feeders for a cheaper price.I'm going to put up a feeder this spring that I wont be able to visit on a regular basis, so I wanted a battery that would last for about 4+ months without worrying about it.. Was thinking about the rechargeable with a solar panel, but I saw that Duracell Quantum came in the size D now.
A 6 volt battery is essentially 4 D size batteries in a nice package. Was wondering how I could duplicate that, but select that batteries I wanted.
Found a 4 D cell battery holder at Radio Shack and decided to use that to hold the batteries. You don't have to use the Quantums, any D size Alkaline batteries will do.

good idea but a solar panel is the way to go, may be more expensive at first but in the long run it saves. I had my feeder with a rechargeable battery of for nearly three years now and still on the same battery. and after deer season I don't disconnect or even pull the feeder,i just stop filling it so when season comes around its still already set for the times I want it for

Cool hack. I'd love to see an update at the end of summer. I get more than six months out of the Duracell 6v's , but my feeders are only running 20 seconds a day. I'd love to save a few bucks any way I can, though. Thumbs up from me!

There's rechargable lead acid batteries for like $5-$10 depending on where in the USA you live. The de-30008 6v is a good battery.

Trick to beat that law would be to set the feeder to go off around midnight so no one would really hear it. Mainly people are the ones that will catch you first then they call the warden.

If you buy the right feeder they come with the 4D battery holder!

Use a 12v battery with a step down to 6v converter. Should last you 6 months. You can add a solar panel later if you wish.

I got feed out , the 0 deg weather is playing havoc on my cameras . I want to see how long the antlers stay on. This video isn't crisp as the others.

Will big bucks come to battery feeders? And how long will it take on a Average for deer to come to one guess what I'm asking is which type of feeder is better

Edward Osborne Dude. Get feeder , set it up , install game camera, take notes. Then be ready for deer season. Also patients. You'll get healthy bucks if you feed them right. Goodluck

Hey I havent noticed but have you stuck with the d cell battery style and how long does the batteries last for with this method? I just purchased a wild game innovation feeder and looking for longevity and I know with rechargeable 6v batteries you can't guarantee how long the battery will be good for

They last about as long as the regular 6volt lantern batteries. I just switched to the rechargeable lanterns because I was getting a lot of water in the WG spinner box. It does work, but make sure you have a good seal to keep that water out.

Car batteries are 12v. This system takes 6v

If you want to use a 12 volt car battery drill a small hole down through the top of the plastic battery case beside the the cap where you would put water in . Use the third one from the negative post. Screw a bolt down through the hole. The bolt should be a little larger than the hole it will self thread on the way in. Use a bolt long enough to screw down until it touches the battery plates with enough sticking above the battery case to use as the plus terminal. Hook the ground wire to the ground terminal. Hook plus terminal to the bolt you installed. Should be 6 volts. Each cell is 2 volts in an auto battery. Check with a volt meter. To do that just attach the negative tester wire to ground. Take the 3 rd battery cap off and stick the plus probe down in until it touches the plates. Meter should read 6 volts. When I was a youngster I used to do this with my old 6 volt system truck. 6 volts was not quite enough to turn the engine over in really cold weather. So used to feed the starter with 8 volts using the same method.
