The IV-Chord is labeled Subdominant, not because it is below the V-Chord, but because it's a natural fifth below the tonic (opposed to a natural fifth above, like the Dominant).

@@c.a.g.3130 Dude. Just no. It does not mean below the dominant. It means "the dominant below". That's what this whole comment is about.
@malikdiao8212
@malikdiao8212 5 жыл бұрын
@@c.a.g.3130 If you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe Wikipedia... "In music, the subdominant is the fourth tonal degree (scale degree 4) of the diatonic scale. It is so called because it is the same distance below the tonic as the dominant is above the tonic - in other words, the tonic is the dominant of the subdominant." Seems like YOU don't know what you're talking about.

What a great lesson! I really appreciate your clear tutorials and analysis. The progressions sounded so perfectly logical and familiar and I could hear in my head many different songs in the examples. The Stevie Wonder harmonization brings us to a whole new world. Sweet and amazing. Indispensable info for writing, playing and understanding music.
