EVERY. SINGLE. STREAM. I have a checklist of tasks I have to do in order to make sure the stream is as PERFECT as it can be, on the days where I don’t do these things I notice a big drop in overall viewers, engagements, and I just made worse content.
Today we are talking about stream preparation so that you can rest easy making the best content you can.

How To Prepare For Your Streams:
To nobody's surprise, I am going to say the first step is to look at your entire week and set up a schedule, figure out when you are going to stream certain days, try to make their days you can do every week and you’ll stream fairly consistent games/categories/ and genres. The first step to a successful stream checklist is getting into this routine and letting it become a part of your potential viewer's routines.
A big part of the planning content or games section is finding a unique way to stand out, can we add stakes to make the content more unique and separate us from the crowd?
“Beating Dark Souls But Every Death = Wasabi!” What makes your content more engaging than others? Plan this out here, and create a unique selling point for your content! Let me know in the comments what you are going to do to make yourself stand out more!

Why You Need To Check Your Audio Before EVERY Stream
Before every stream you should check your microphone settings, are they set to output properly, are you sending audio out, and then once you go live check you aren’t muted! Grab a sticky note if you need it to remember, but look at this little bar in SLOBs or OBS to make sure you are making noise, and it is actually set to output.
I actually recommend when you are testing the game and alerts like I mentioned in the earlier tip that you also test your microphone because sometimes OBS or SLOBs can change which microphone input you are using, so make sure that is actually set to your correct microphone as well.
The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

OH YES, AND I DIDNT MEAN TO DO IT, So I'm a Small Streamer That Has Literally No Mods For The Chat...And The Chat Is Usually Pretty Slow, Mostly For That Stream... I Was Definitely Confused As There Are Usually 2 Chatters, But This Time Non...So I Went On To Google (i love google for this) To See Why No One Is Chatting... One Of The Reasons Was: "You Are Not Using a Mic." I Checked My Mic And BOOM, It Was On Mute. Nice Job Me ;) After All, This Is One Of My Most Important Things To Check...Is My Mic On?

Big tip I use for remembering to end stream after a raid is once we go raid out I have a multi command key on my Stream Deck that switches to the Stream Ending scene and plays music for 60 seconds then it completely shuts off the stream and recording and turns my lights off. If anyone has a stream deck or a good alternative would highly recommend programming in a multi command feature that’s similar, it’s been a lifesaver and haven’t made that mistake since! Also, always A+ video Eljay, as many others have said your KZfaq content has been incredibly helpful on this streaming journey and I find your advise invaluable. Thank you for all the hard work you put into your content, you’re really helping people take their content to the next level dude! 🙏🏼

I always raid, wait for the chat window to swap to the other creators, then wave and say goodbye one more time before hitting stop streaming so I don't have to worry about it. Well, I'm happy to see I follow all of these steps already! Except for the tech difficulties...I test EVERYTHING before stream, record, the whole 9 yards, everything seems to be great, hit go live....and then BAM. Everything.Breaks.Down. My community expects the tech difficulties now and they find my absolute lack of luck hilarious...I turn it into just chatting as we work together to fix it, joke around, and celebrate once everything gets started. They call it 'level 1'. Quality content chez Mimi.

I always do a whole ass vocal warm up before stream. If I don't I find myself stumbling over words and stuttering or just losing my voice half way through. It also ups my energy cos you can't be sad after doing lip trills for 5 minutes, it's impossible. Also didn't need the call out on the irregular schedule (hopefully I'll be back on track now I'm back at work, being off for 4 months really screwed with my schedule) but you right, you gotta be as consistant as possible on that schedule.

When I prepare for a stream I've taken your advise and gotten a notepad, and I write down, the stream title, the go live notification and the talking points for the stream. It has helped me become more organised. I won't lie I have had technical issues on streams too many times and that's perhaps where I'm going wrong. It make take some time before I see some change but this has been really insightful. And yes I have had that where for the first 30 mins my stream had no mic audio and it wasn't until someone joined the stream and pointed out before I discovered it myself. It was a massive feels bad.

So I was stuck on this level in Dark Souls and it was driving me nuts because everytime I stream it, I make little to no progress on stream. After watching one of your videos about trying to introduce more content besides just clicking live, I decided that I was going to attempt doing a Hangman game with viewers that would activate every time I died on Dark Souls. I don't have a gaming PC so I literally bought a bulletin board and we printed out pictures of our favorite anime or cartoon characters to use as the hangman. To be able to participate you would have to use your Redemption reward points, like a hundred something cheap, and then me and one of my mods would write a list of the people who bought tickets in order so every time I died we would just look at the list and they would get the pic the letter. This performed really well and my few people that watch me really enjoyed it. I would imagine that with more viewers this would probably be really awesome

I would also add to the prepare checklist change and wash up, I started streaming with a few friends and they would never do this. Great tips! Would you consider doing a video about hat happens after you press "go live"? There are bazillions of videos that talk about how to set up your streams that always end with, "And then just press go live!" and fade to black. I want a video about what happens during a live stream, how you adjust on the fly, switching between windows, dealing with problems.

But I had my first Twitch live 2 days ago and the ventilation was going like crazy... I need a pc...

I am so lucky to have a few dedicated viewers on my youtube streams that will remind me within the first 5 minutes if I forgot my mic 😅 I've done entire intros that I thought were my best and smoothest and then realized that the mic wasn't on... 🤦‍♂️ One day I might have enough animal crossing streams under my belt to remember my checklist 😆

With regards to mics being muted. If you have hotkeys, or use a streamdeck to change scenes, you can use multi-actions or the same hotkey. Unmute the mic when moving to a scene where you will be talking. And for scenes where you don't use your mic, you can have the same hotkeys or multi actions set to mute your mic as the scene changes!

I'm gonna be doing as many of these as I can tonight and hope for the best! I had to skip a week of streaming due to PC issues and am terrified that I killed my own momentum after finally being consistent. ...And yes I have left my mic muted before. It got so bad that I started doing my mic on a per scene basis so that I never have to mute or unmute in OBS. My BRB screen just doesn't have a mic source!

With the privacy thing I've actually just made an entirely new Windows user dedicated to only streaming, that way if anything does show up or I need to go into my browser, only things that I've done on stream will show up. Even then I very rarely use desktop capture instead of game or window capture.

Great vid as always Eljay! First time I raided someone I forgot I was still live... since then I always make sure to end as soon as my channel is showing as hosting the raided person! My unique twist is going to be "games done different". I'm going to try and take future games I play and trying to find a unique way to play them. Something which doesn't make it worthless for people who like the actual game, but maybe creating some sort of game within the game!

I get home from work between 7:30-7:45am, take the dog out, feed pets, put away lunchbox/clean dishes, change into comfy clothes, and try to get the "starting soon" screen up by 8:30am. I try to stick to a 2hr stream so that I can then get to bed by 11am to wake up at 5pm and do family evening and then head off to work again. All that to say my time is excessively limited on stream days. I don't have time for more than "click and go" and then play games and shoot the breeze with friends. If you were going to make a "Top 3 Things" to do before a stream, what are THE most important ones for a small streamer who intends to stay small and do this as a hobby?

Oh man I was doing a blind first look at a game a couple days ago and everything was fine technologically until I went live. Happily I had a viewer tell me and after trying some fixes, I ended up having to end the stream. I discovered that while the game works fine on my PC, I have to lower quality in streamlabs AND the game for streaming. I will try the game again, but man I felt so bad about it. I actually had a good audience, too (relatively speaking for me lol...like 15 people on youtube/twitch simultaneously), so I took it a little hard thinking I let people down. I hope they come back when I try again haha!

The microphone thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. Did an 8-hour stream with no mic audio. Watched parts of my VOD on parts where I KNEW I was talking, but didn't hear anything. Somehow OBS wasn't picking it up. That was the first thing I checked next stream, and things were fine after that.

Ngl, I would love some feedback on my stuff but I also know my schedule is consistently inconsistent RE start times. And that's generally due to work plus the schedules of the people I'm working with on some collabs. Plus this weeks is deadass just missing a day because of a community discord thing lmao. I'm also pretty sure this is the earliest I've ever been to one of these videos. I appreciate these videos you make so much! They've been an invaluable source of info and have helped so freaking much. Thank you for all you do man. I average about 15 viewers but I feel that so much of what I've been able to implement to keep people around is because of you.
