BLUE HEELER IS THE TOUGHEST DOG BREED. Welcome to our channel! In this video, we'll be discussing the Blue Heeler, a breed of dog known for its toughness and endurance. Blue Heelers, also known as Australian Cattle Dogs, were originally bred to herd cattle in the harsh Australian outback, and they have a reputation for being one of the toughest and most resilient dog breeds out there.
These dogs are known for their high energy levels, intelligence, and unwavering loyalty to their owners. They are also incredibly tough and can withstand extreme weather conditions, long hours of physical activity, and even difficult working environments. Their strong, muscular bodies and sharp senses make them excellent protectors and working dogs.
Whether you're looking for a loyal companion or a tough working dog, the Blue Heeler is a great choice. However, it's important to note that these dogs require a lot of physical activity and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. They are not recommended for inexperienced dog owners or those who cannot commit to providing them with the exercise and training they need.
In this video, we'll be sharing some fascinating facts and insights into the Blue Heeler's toughness, as well as tips on how to care for and train this amazing breed. So sit back, relax, and get ready to learn all about one of the toughest dogs out there - the Blue Heeler!

I recently adopted a 5 month old blue heeler from the shelter. He’s a great dog with high intelligence. Sometimes tho he will test me 🐕 I’m thankful to have him here on the farm with me. Look forward to seeing what he can do!

My first bluey lived to also be 17. Without doubt the most loyal mate I’ve ever known. We both knew what the other was thinking and wanted. Tough, smart, loyal as they come and no health problems. I’d go to the pub and leave my keys in the Ute knowing that my car was safer than the Crown Jewels. I still remember the day I had to say goodbye 20 years ago. Worst day of my life. Love the breed.

I used to deliver oats to a poultry farmer on the outskirts of a city. They had a problem with people coming over the back fence and stealing chooks. Would have been very expensive to fix as no fences good enough. After discussing this problem with a friend who then told them about a man that trained Blueys as guard dogs. They bought 3, the trainer showed the dogs the boundaries of the property. There was no front fence. The dogs never left the property, but they always greeted the primary school children walking past. When ever I went there, one dog was on patrol, one asleep, the other was alert on the front lawn.

Traveling Aust, I've seen Blue Healers get kicked in the head by a cow, and temporarily knocked out. They get up, shake their head, and run back to herding the cattle. I saw a female with pups, she kept them under a truck. She ran back to feed them, then ran back to herding cattle. Seen cattlemen whistle to tell them where to go, some ignore the commands as they know better to herd. Nothing deters them from their job. Amazing dogs to watch working, they love it.

I've owned dogs just like you described. I've had them for more than 40yrs and they're tough both physically and mentally which isn't always a positive😅 We worked them in yards pushing cattle up to be dipped and the beasts don't want to go in the dip and kick but the dogs drop and the hoof (usually) goes over the head. Tough and smart. Wouldn't have anything else.

❤ my husband got our Stevie at 7 wks old on his 70th birthday! She is our 2nd heeler, though she didn't have to work at herding cattle, my husband took her to the park faithfully every day for 2 years until we moved to the country where she had all the space she needed and now over 4 yrs old she has adapted to our slower lifestyle and is so gentle and loving, and yes, she certainly has a mind of her own, but we love her tremendously.

I got a Blue Heeler/Pit mix rescue as a "surprise gift"... The first week I was thinking of bringing him back to the shelter. What a mistake that would have been! I've had many dogs, blue heeler traits came through, and he was the most awesome companion ever. I would 100% recommend this breed for an active dog owner. RIP Elvis the Pit Heeler, thank you for all you did. 🫡❤👍

Here’s the honest lowdown on the ACD. My family growing up alway had 3 dogs at any given time. I’ve had Brittany Spaniels, German Shepherds, Labs, Golden’s, and even a couple King Charles. I currently have a 4 year old Charcoal Lab and a 10 year old (90% ACD/10% Black Lab) mix I’ve had since he was 6wks old. I can truly say there is nothing like the ACD other than a Belgian. They’re incredibly smart, loyal to a fault, tough as nails, confident, cocky, arrogant, affectionate (when he wants to be it’s rare), HIGHLY PROTECTIVE (of me and what he believes to be his turf), Aggressive towards other dogs besides my Lab and my parents King Charles (it took time for him to warm up to them, now they are best friends as long as they don’t forget he’s the boss lol). He absolutely loves my 4 nieces (ages 2-13), he’s never showed any aggression at all towards kids even after being sat on/accidentally poked in the eye etc. like little kids do when playing. I love this breed and will get another when his time comes (He’s still as active at 10 as he was at 3). My vet said he expects him to live to at least 15 years. He’s never been to the vet due to illness. He's been bit by a water moccasin and in response tore it to shreds like a noodle (dry bite, I don’t think he even noticed and yes I rushed him to the vet he’s my baby), He’s gone head to head with 2 coyotes at once eliminating them both like it was a game, he has a bite out of one of his ears from a Pit Bull that attacked him while we were on a walk years ago (the pit needed 20 stitches after unfortunately). My point in saying all this is that they aren’t for inexperienced dog owners. They need lots of exercise, extremely firm discipline, lots of attention and love of course. If you want the smartest, toughest, most loyal and incredibly athletic dogs this is for you but just understand what you’re getting into first (for your sake and most importantly the dogs well-being). Of all the dogs I’ve had over the years nothing compares to the ACD, not even close.

I have a gsd now as you can see on my channel. I have had heelers since the 80s but not for a few years now. Many story about heelers here in oz being hero's. I have had mals staffys and bcs ccs, over many years, but the working line heeler is in a class of its own. Mals can be timid if your to hard on them and can't work cattle, ( not wild cattle like a heeler) and they like work more than they like there owners, much like a bc. The heeler only works to make there owner happy, I would say that's the difference, they protect and love there owner like no other breed and can take the hardest handler, tough as. Gsd I would say is half mal or bc, other half heeler. Other words is loyal like a heeler but not as much, and worker like a bc but not as much. They are more resiliant than a mal and can deal with firm handling much more than a mal. My extensive experienced tells me 1. Acd 2. Gsd 3. Bc 4 cc 5 staffys. If purely you after after a deep bond with your dog. And bonding is the most important thing with a dog for dog people.

Oh, by the way, The Kelpie runs harder, longer, is smarter and every bit as loyal. Kelpies however are not physically robust enough to deal with cattle, just a Heelers are not athletic enough to deal with large flocks of sheep, heelers are also to mouthy for sheep

Agreed but with 2 others who have similiar work ethics. The Border Collie and the Kelpie, both of which will work until exhausted. In Australia the Bluey is used mainly for cattle, the Kelpie and Border Collie mainly for sheep. These 3 breeds have to work in all conditions of climate. The Blueys were breed in Queensland, a very hot state. The Kelpies were breed in Victoria, in the southern regions which can be cold. I never worked with Blueys, but both of the other two. Kelpies prefer hot weather but work well in cold. They tend to look for warmth when not working, Collies tend to love cold conditions but find hot work hard. Blue Heelers are physically tough in ways that other breeds do not need, due to working with cattle as a priority. The other 2 can be good with cattle but tend to avoid physical contact. These are generalisations and these dogs have huge variations of personality.

I don't encourage it at all but he fights when ever he gets a chance. Elevator opened one day and a guy with a pit bull was in it. In less than a second my little dog was on the pit, pulled his leg down and grabbed its neck b4 anyoneof us realized what just happened. He's done this alot. He was a Ferrell dog living in the woods. He got into it with a pack of coyotes and survived but was torn up. Dog catcher caught him after a year of trying. They were going to put him down in 2 days. I forced them to give him to me. I have a 2 year old 50/50 Blue Heeler/Border Collie. One of the best dogs I have ever had, energy for days and days. I would not recommend a Heeler in an apartment and "just walked" they need a lot more than a couple walks a day. Maybe two or three hours of heavy exercise a day would be better.

ACD are in my mind the best all around dog for active dog lovers that want a true addition to the family . They’re a dog like no other. I have a purebred red heeler, and I had another one before him. I would never own another dog besides the breed of dog. If you want a snuggly, cuddly, dog, that you don’t have to deal with then he is the dog for you. But I think everyone agrees that has owned one and willing to integrate them into the family train them and exercise them would say that their loyalty is off the charts. Their intelligence is probably scary people don’t understand if they don’t see it or have one and as far as being the toughest dog, I would say they are, so tough they would fight to death for you or any of their close family members… The key is to integrate them with other dogs, early and other pets if you have them when they’re a puppy. They are so loyal and so amazing as watchdog that you never have to worry about knowing if anybody’s around that you may not want. They are so smart they pick up on the the instinct of who is OK and who is not really quick. Once you train them to nip as a puppy they still have that instinct but they do very well with the family, their bites are ferocious if they ever are in protection mode, I would say the closest thing I could think of would be if you ever saw that old mongoose cartoon Ricky Tikki Tavi. They move like that gracefully swift they can turn on a dime, and they may be on top of another dog before the dog knows what hit them that goes for people to when they are guarding… Since that’s what it’s about toughness, I’ll keep it to that, but I just want to say one thing they are very very very sweet and literally like another person in the family when you raise them properly they like having another kid one other thing lightning fast it’s almost stunning to watch sometimes

They are Australian Cattle Dogs. “Blue” or “Red” denotes color not breed. “Heeler” is their job and action when herding cattle or sheep not the breed. I have a Blue Australian Cattle Dog. The Australian Cattle Dog is the recognized breed by the AKC, and has been placed by the AKC into the “Herding Dog” group. My Lexi is the breed I chose to be my Service Dog based on the rank by the AKC of #7 out of 10 for intelligence. This breed is smart and very sensitive, perfect as my Service Dog. They are great with kids and other dogs. Be ready to be embarrassed at the dog park, though. Australian Cattle Dogs herd the other dogs at the dog park with what’s called the “fanning movement.” Basically back and forth keeping the group together. They don’t nip at the heels of the other dogs, so don’t worry. You’ll just keep repeating yourself a lot with, “She’s a herding dog.” Play ball? Catch a frisbee? Nope. 😂

@@kittt1950 Fun fact: It's rare but it does occur. It's a little known fact but pure Australian Cattle Dogs can also be born with a full brindle coat. Except for photos, I've only ever seen two brindle pure cattle dogs but they look amazing, the brindle seems to really suit their body shape. It's believed the K gene that produces the brindle coat was passed on in the original breeding process using dingoes that carried the brindle K gene. Brindle is the second most common natural colour of pure wild dingoes in Australia.
