You guys are great fun to watch! I LOVE this sport! I’m not athletic, been playing for about a year and got MY FIRST ATP last week, Dec 29, 2022! My opponents were so surprised because of my (lack of) skill level, they stopped and came up to congratulate me! Such fun!

@@doreenmurphy1066 the ball doesn't have to bounce and usually never will on an Erne attempt. You just can't touch the kitchen or the lines with your feet while doing it or afterwards, must contact the ball on your side of the net. So it is an Erne. Hope that helps.

It's the top spin, the slice/under spin, the side spin/ curve/tomahawk, back spin/reverse. Ya, crazy huh? Before you even think of doing this, just master the basics. Oh ya, there is also 'dead dinks, speed ups, firefight, shake n bake and hide n seek, hand signals,... Have I missed any?? Yes, 'open stance, closed stance, dominion eye stance.?

You cannot talk about the dink without also talking about grip. New players grip the paddle way to strong, the dink uses a 3/10 grip tightness to ensure the ball stays low. You also didn't talk about an aimpoint for the dink...the opponents feet.

Great tips. My question to you is concerning the kitchen. Can you reach in to take a hall out of the air while not moving past the kitchen line? Can you run through the kitchen after running in for a volley, as your momentum brings you in after you have returned the ball? Also, I have noticed players running through the kitchen when hall on opponent’s side to reposition themselves. What are the kitchen rules regarding these three observations? TY

yes you can reach in to take a ball out of the air while not moving past the kitchen line. Can you not run into the kitchen after hitting a volley if your momentum brings you in. You can run through the kitchen to reposition, IF you weren't the one that just hit the previous ball out of the air!

Well done…I’m confused by the Erne… as a beginner, I know I’m not going to worry about it, but I thought you were not allowed to hit a ball on the fly if you were past the kitchen line 🤔… The beginner sessions I have going to all use portable nets, so I don’t think they extend out the way the ones in this video do (I intend to check next time I play 😉)

I see the bangers smash at the kitchen line all the time but I rarely see them lob it to a corner for a point (or dink for that matter- they just wanna smash it). This sounds like a good strategy against bangers- what do you think Kyle?

How do you slow down the game to dinking with beginners who are just driving shots that everyone is missing? Not sure if I explained it right.
@thatpickleballguy
@thatpickleballguy Жыл бұрын
If they drive it at you (and it's going in), then block the ball down to the ground. Avoid big swings, just short punches. Now, if they move in to take that next ball and look to drive it hard again. Number 1, it's probably going out, but if it's not, then block it again. By this point they will be closer to the net and forced to dink more. If they try to hit it super hard again, its definitely going out. For more dinking to happen, you have to show you can handle their drives! And you do that by blocking the ball down into the court and force them to come in to the net.

Okay, so in order for the Erne to be safe, you have to be outside of the kitchen, correct?

New player. How does the Erne not break the rules? I though you had to stay out of the kitchen unless the ball bounces there first.

You just can't be in the kitchen. You can just through the kitchen or run around it. that is okay! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ic5xfNJoyszbqXU.html Check out this video for more on this shot!

@@thatpickleballguy Actually, I play pickleball at 4H and it is pretty cool! I missed the first week but by the end of the 2nd week I was at least as good, if not better than most people there! It is crazy how ATP's are allowed! It seems so illegal!

This guy said that it's a beginner mistake to drive too much and instead you should try to drop shot more so you can approach the net and dink more. Why is it considered better to approach the net and engage in dinking? As someone who has played tennis for years, approaching the net is considered an aggressive tactic that you should only use when you can see an opportunity to finish the point, because while you can get better angles to volley from the net, you can cover way less of the court, giving your opponent an opportunity to pass you with a good shot. To me, dinking seems like playing very passively. Why would I want to 'dink' a safe ball to my opponent so they have the chance of driving past me? I played pickleball for the first time today and it was super fun, but I found we were all mostly driving, only approaching the net to finish a point off, rather than trying to encourage a rally from the kitchen. Would love to hear some thoughts on this, thanks.

Okay I just watched the other video where he talks about beginner mistakes, and learned that the reason for saying dont 3rd shot drive as much is because if you're a beginner you will be more inaccurate with your drives, leading to shots too wide out or too short so they hit the net. The 3rd shot drop is a safer option to keep the ball in play for longer so you have a higher chance at winning. He said if you're comfortable driving and are accurate then to go for it. Mystery solved, thanks (:
