Hello, this video was super helpful! I just have one question, when ever I do backwards 1 foot glides, I always loose any power from my swizzles and lean forward too much, putting my toe pick on the ice. Any suggestions on how to keep your power when skating backwards! Thank you so much, you just gained a new subscriber :)

Hi again! I am glued to your videos! They are great :) I am struggling with holding my right outside edges in a basic glide - I always feel like I am going to fall over. Help!

I’m trying to practice with my skates on in my bedroom and it’s carpeted. Could that be the problem why I keep wobbling all over the place? I’m also making sure that my skates are tight enough so that my ankles won’t move around. What more can I do to practice with my skates on off ice?

hi, i just have a question. I am new to skating so I am still learning the ropes. I can't seem to find my balance on the backward glide, I guess because I'm afraid to land on my back. What are some tips I can do to work on that? In terms of posture and weight distribution that is.

+TheFantasyFen Sure! Are you able to do a solid backward two foot glide? Can you do Backward Swizzles?
@Crysalia8 жыл бұрын
yes I can do both backward swizzles and two foot glide. I am not so sure what it meant to be solid though. I think moving backwards, my weight is centred. But when I shift the weight to one foot, I can't balance (although forward 1 foot glide + edges are ok)

Ok, there's a lot that could be happening, so we will post a video going in depth about the backward one foot glide.

hello, I'm trying to do a one foot glide forwards, but i only succeed on one leg. on the other one i always seem to turn inside thus doing a sort of an inside lobe, instead of going straight forward and doing a straight line. What's my problem? why can't i slide on that leg straight without turning in? Is it a problem in me or in my skate/blade?

+asfsaf asfdsaf Sorry! Here is what I told Catherine, the same would apply to you: You have to set your balance from your blade, through the middle of your hips, through the middle of your shoulders, through your head. Look at your reflection and see if you aren't there all the way. It can also be ankle strength, and the boots you are using. If you can bend the top of your boots over the side, then you aren't getting enough support.

Assuming you're talking about a forward glide, the problem I had was putting too much weight on the inside edge of my right blade and that was causing me to turn left. That happened because I got into a bad habit of always skating on that inside edge. I had to concentrate on putting equal weight on both edges and skating with a flat blade. To succeed in that I had to try to put extra weight on the outside edge since I was mentally resisting doing that. It took some real practice but I got good. Try to glide on one foot for at least a count of three to consider yourself somewhat good, and then work towards longer counts up to 10.

Hi! I've heard that raising your hip (the same hip as the foot you're lifting) can help with your balance, is that true?
@hannabelle21876 жыл бұрын
catlover12670 maybe in ice skating it’s different. But as a ballet dancer raising the hip of the leg you lift will effect balance in a negative way, especially when you begin pirouettes, spins, turns etc. Some people will raise their hips to compensate weight distribution, but will have to relearn level hip alignment as they learn more advanced elements. I hope this helped answer your question!
