1399 miles, 183.7 hrs - We loved "Rambo", or 2018 Honda Pioneer 500. This is video #79 in the Honda Pioneer 500 video series on the Southwest ORV KZfaq channel.
This 2018 Honda Pioneer 500 is wearing SunF Power II tires, which are a major improvement, especially on the rocks and in the rough stuff. The tires are size 26x9-12 at all four corners, mounted up on ITP 5+2 12" Delta steel wheels. Note: If you like the look of the new 26x9-12 SunF tires use discount code "SOUTHWESTORV" to save 5% on your next SunF.com tire purchase!
We purchased our 2018 Honda Pioneer 500 "Rambo" at North Valley RideNow in Phoenix because they gave us the best out-the-door price in the state, and they didn't play sales games with us. Salesman Ryan Bigham was fantastic to deal with throughout the purchasing experience.

I haven't watched many video's for a while and just saw this one. It was fun watching all of your video's over the past year. My wife and I just got back from the Black hills in South Dakota with our Honda. It's perfect for the 2 of us and I understand why you did what you did. I named my Honda 'the mountain goat' while riding out there. It defies the laws of physics when crawling up steep hills. Thanks for all the videos and enjoy your new machine.

Thanks! I'm not familiar with the Black Hills, but sounds cool. I agree, these little P500's do so well mountain-goating their way up treacherous climbs and trails.

I've loaded my 500 down with so many things. I spent as little money as I could so, I created, modified or just found as many of the things as I could. I took a UTV jump seat and not using the legs I placed it on top of a pickup truck side mounted tool box and mounted it to the very rear of bed frame work facing forward. I added a cut to fit section of hard board for a floor in front of that. I added side straps and chains for safety. I made up frame work for a front wench. I then put a battery under the front hood for the wench, turn signals, radio and much more. I placed a car roof carrier rack over the hood that can be easly be removed. I put the upper section of a golf cart windshield on upside down for cold and wet weather. I then made a clear with black trim vinyl enclosure for the rest of the cab. I put ammo boxes, rifle racks, a small jerry can and all sorts of pouches all over the thing. I have a small Harbor Fright trailer for it when needed as well. I also made four weapons mounts as well. With a number of airsoft heavy weapons mounted all over this thing it's a big hit at parades also. www.lonestar-mvpa.org/events/2020/texas/texas016.JPG

Haha! No, no spare belts. Turns out...we decided to get something bigger for 2020 - something that can haul the whole family or a whole of friends. I would LOVE to try out a Honda Pioneer 1000, but I think it's time for me to branch out a little, and Honda does not make a true 6-seater, so you'll see what we end up with here in a few weeks.

How do you feel like the noise level is in the cabin? I’m coming from an older sxs (teryx) that was very loud. I don’t expect any sxs to be quiet at wot but would like to be able to have a comfortable conversation with a passenger around 25 mph. What are your thoughts on the noise level in that range?
@SouthwestORV
@SouthwestORV 3 жыл бұрын
There is a decent amount of noise in the cabin when the engine is in higher revs. Keep it relaxed in the rpms and you can carry on a conversation. Up to 25mph you'll be ok. Beyond that it starts to rev out and gets loud.

@@SouthwestORV Maybe you should have bought a second? Last summer I bought a used 2015, which has an even lower first gear, but no auto-shift mode. I'm looking to find useful mods, but I basically need my machine to do everything plus what most riders will never see. For some perspective: in my world, the pioneer 500 is very heavy. Even people who live near me don't get that. 'Course, most didn't grow up here. But... That new price!? How?! You got a GREAT deal!
@SouthwestORV
@SouthwestORV 3 жыл бұрын
I considered that. I really wanted a machine that could haul all six of us together and comfortably. Even two P500's couldn't accomplish that. Again, I'm not knocking the P500, I loved it for its intended purpose. I made lots of 1 on 1 memories with family and friends. Yes, when I go to buy a new machine I call all around to the dealers in AZ and look for the best "out the door price" until I find a good one. Glad to hear you're enjoying your P500!

@SouthwestORV
@SouthwestORV 3 жыл бұрын
J Gilbert, thanks for watching. I always hope my videos are informative. I do disagree 100% with your opinion regarding the buy/sell of goods for more than one has paid for them. This is business, it's what makes the world go 'round. It's how a society sustains itself, and it's how every business survives that is not government-funded. An individual who purchases any item is under no moral obligation to sell it for equal or lesser monies than what he/she paid for it. Whether the profit is $.05, $5, $10, $1000, or $10,000, if the purchasing party is happy to make the exchange, it's a fair exchange. The individual who purchased my Can Am was thrilled at the price I sold it, and he should be, because I still sold it for nearly $2000 below market value! I was fortunate to find a rare opportunity to purchase a machine from a wealthy individual (who just wanted it gone) for $9000 cash, his asking price - when that machine had been purchased new for $18,000 just one year prior. The gentleman who purchased my Can Am did not ask what I paid for it. I did not misrepresent the machine. He was perfectly sound in his mind and thinking - I did not take advantage of him in any way. Had I lied to him, that would be tragic. Were he not fully "there" mentally, it could be considered unethical, or "tragic". My explanation above in the previous comment was simply to help another viewer understand how/why I was able to jump from a P500 to a Commander 1000R to a Ranger 1000 Premium in such short time. But I feel no remorse for purchasing an item and then selling it at a profit. There is nothing unethical about this practice. When I go to purchase an item, I never burden myself with irrelevant curiosity of how much the selling party originally purchased it for. The truth is, it makes no difference. All that matters is this: what is this item worth to me? What am I willing to exchange for it? This is economics.

Honda makes a Pioneer 1000 with 5 seats.
@SouthwestORV
@SouthwestORV 4 жыл бұрын
Matthew McKinney - yes, Honda makes the P1000-5 with 5 seats, but this configuration does not meet my needs or desires. My wife and I have four kids. So there's six of us. And on top of that, when we go on our long exploration day rides, we like to take along a canopy, camping chairs, water, food, extra fuel, two ice chests, etc. It all fits easily in the bed of the Ranger Crew. It would not fit ANYWHERE on a P1000-5. If Honda made a "crew" configuration of the P1000 I would be sorely tempted to purchase one for many reasons. But they don't.

@@SouthwestORV Yeah, after watching your video I realized you needed 6 seats. Maybe Honda will expand their lineup further some day to include a "Crew" model with 6 seats and additional cargo storage. We have 3 kids so we need the 5 seater Pioneer 1000. Right now we just have a 2012 Foreman 500 ATV and it's difficult for us all to fit on it. LoL

I have a lot of neighbors with the P1000-5 and they all love it. I know what you mean, I used to take my whole family on rides on our 2016 Rancher and it was fun, but funny too. Two on the rack on front, two on the rack on back, and my wife and I on the seat. But we had fun.
