Photography for introverts: if portrait and wedding photography is not your passion, are you doomed as a photographer? Definitely not! In this video, I talk about 7 types of photography that introverts might particularly enjoy. Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

Definitely an introvert! And very self reliant, so I don't like having to organise other people or sort out model releases etc. The more I can do completely solo the better, so I love stock photography for that. Photographing protests take me a bit out of my comfort zone, especially when they are small and everyone turns to look at this small photographer who appeared from nowhere :D, but I do like being detached from events and observing them.

Thank you for this thought-provoking information. I think I’m like you... I fall in between an introvert and an extrovert. I get energized by talking to people, but I prefer small groups of people or one-on-one interactions. Large, noisy crowds are overwhelming.

Mega introvert here. This is one of my big worries about several types of photography. My skills are not there yet, but if they were, I would rather pull my toenails out than shoot something like a wedding. Lol Bless you for this topic! You give me hope. 😂

Thanks, great subject to cover. I think we can be both an extrovert at times and introvert on other occasion. I had done dozens of wedding and portraiture session in the past but nowadays enjoy doing landscape and travel photography.

A very interesting topic. My own experience is somewhat like yours - I love meeting people and love my time on my own. "Boring" is a word, but what’s the meaning of it? I have no idea. I don’t know if I’m a intro- or extrovert. But when I’m working low with my Canon or flying high with my Phantom, then I’m in my own world - so I’m possibly a PHOTOVERT! Wow - thank you for mentioning insect photography! I started a blog about 3 months ago, and one of my main goals is to become a great insect photographer. I hope to become an advocate for insect preservation someday with photography. I wasn't even sure it was a real thing. I am glad to hear someone else talk about it.

Introvert. Which is why I started a gaming channel. I get nervous taking pictures within the town I live in, although I made my first sale from a downtown shot. I am concentrating on product photography right now mixed with landscape. Thank you for the videos!!!

My favorite type of photography is macro because it’s like a whole other world that not a lot of people take time to look at and it’s a completely different perspective on things

Hi Nicole, i can walk around a national park or city all day hunting for stock photos, and the time flies. A 2 hour model shoot however, leaves me stressed and tired. I guess that tells me which one I am.

Definitely an introvert. So I am very much the type that would rather work alone. Not only that, but I'm also very self-conscience of my photos but actually publishing my photos to social media to get comfortable with taking criticism

Thanks. I don't know if I'm one or the other. I used to enjoy street photography but recently I've felt more uncomfortable about shooting candid shots of strangers. I like to shoot street scenes though. This was helpful; I like to be an observer and shoot as an outsider. Maybe I'm becoming more introvert after all.

Oh well.. Looks like I ended up with same list of preferable photo shoot types as an introvert. Although I feel excited about shooting protests and other stuff with same dynamic because you are a simply speachless man with camera. It feels like surfing, but with crowd instead of ocean =)

Yes. I like insect photography. They are so alien looking as compared to all other lifeforms. Closeup headshots of them are amazing as their eyes are so unusual.

Some good tips here Nicole , I just take photographs for my own pleasure I have never considered trying to make a living from it. I have been taking phot's for over 30yrs ! I must say I just love to take photo's of a variety of things including people if I get the opportunity. However my biggest passion lies with anything to do with nature and wildlife I find it very relaxing. So like yourself I think I sit somewhere in the middle of the introvert extrovert scale :D Watching your videos since I discovered you are making me wonder if maybe I should consider selling some of my images at somepoint ! Thank you for sharing this info and for giving me more inspiration :D Teddy

What about product/still life definitely thought that’d be on the list. You’re usually alone in a studio, at home or outside and you can make money doing it with the vast world of online shopping and small business products and advertising photos is in good demand

I'm a shy extravert. I will happily acknowledge the people around me and if the occasion calls for me to stop and talk I will. However, in photography, that is when the shyness kicks in. I can take candid shots, but not set them up on a personal level. I'd be the photographer taking pictures in the back ground of a wedding, not the ones doing the actual photo shoot. Hi Nicole. Introvert here. :) Great video as always Nicole. Thank you. I can relate to what you said toward the end that you like being alone but at the same time spending time with people you know can also be enjoyable. In my case it is very similar. My discomfort grows with the number of people around me and the degree to which I know them. It is only recently when I started to have thought of asking a complete stranger if I could take his/her photograph. I wonder if I will ever actually do it. Keep posting your videos.

Marek Bromberek The thought of asking a complete stranger if I can take their photo and get their permission to upload as stock photography... I’ll probably never do it. I always wonder who would say yes to that? I take street photography photos, however... but I tend to go to beautiful public places or travel destinations where people don’t question why I’m taking pictures.

Actually, nature photography is a great gateway into people photography, because you can get to know your camera settings really well before working with people :)

OneEyedPhotographer, Ha! I know what you mean, I’ve shot 3 weddings and multiple portrait shoots, the photos are beautiful and the clients very happy, but I don’t do it anymore because it’s a terrifying experience as I’m painfully shy.

I'm introvert. Real-estate terrifies me. People. Landscape good. Bushland good, I'm not sure it's landscape. Maybe it's wildlife when I'm looking for bugs. Commissioned work terrifies me. People. I don't like phoning people. People. I get very suspicious when my phone rings. People, maybe seeking to annoy me.

What lens do you recommend for photojournalism? Middle price range preferably. I have an old Canon Mark 2. Canon 80D and a Sony a6400. I’m thinking about getting a new canon mirrorless. I usually do only bird photography. I love politics so photojournalism interest me. I’m an introvert 🙁

Hi Nicole, I love your channel! I wanted to get your opinion on taking pictures of beauty pageants. I have been asked to do several portraits with crown and sash. Would these pictures be permitted on shutterstock? Any other platform you would recommend for me to sell these on?

Hi Sandy, I'm guessing Shutterstock might give you the rejection "press credentials required". You can upload photos of ticketed events as editorial images as long as you upload press credentials along with them.

Nicole, I definitely lean toward the introvert end of the spectrum. Landscapes, clouds, architecture, macro, abstract, product, etc. Also, drone photography seems interesting, and it seems likely to become more lucrative due to the changing regulations. One could probably find some deals on pre-owned craft, as well. Thanks for the video!

HI Nicole, Thanks for amazing information!.. I'm easy going person , I can fit in both! ;) Question? I'm a drone lover and I fly as hobbies. Sometimes I download some aerial pictures in Shutterstock, but as you know the regulations changed this year for those who flies like me. So my question is; I have some aerial photos in Shutterstock more than 2 years ago, so ..Should I take off them because the regulations changed or should I leave them ... Soung like stupid question...!!! Sorry :)

Hi Mah, you didn't say which country you live in. The regulations are based on the laws of your country. If you live in the US, you would need a commercial pilot license to sell your image. But some countries do not require that.

Is there some sort of "Protests in my area today" site or do you contact the city/county police or permit office to see who took out a permit ? Being able to get there early would be more enjoyable than spontaneous journalism

I like product photography myself and there are lots of different products that need photos. Plus some time I get to keep the sample product I just shot a set of photos plus get paid too. Hey I am in Michigan and it's legal and also there medical marijuana that need photos just to show a wide variety of stuff you may shoot 🙂😎. Great Video Nicole, love to try a drone but the budget said no hahaha hey any Drone makers call me if you need a photo or two.

I'm all introvert here. Hate crowds and am uncomfortable with more than a single person. I love macro photography mostly. Most of my microstock portfolios are made up of that. It's easier too... bugs don't sign model releases. Now, stop looking at me!

I am a hobbyist and watched a video discussing you can earn money as a hobbyist photographer and claim it on your taxes. I know business skills are needed but not my strong suit.

Nicole, you’re most likely an ambivert, which is a person who’s a balance of introverted and extroverted. I’m the same. Love to get into drones, but I live in Canada. I’ll have to do it elsewhere. Hopefully, no one follows Canada’s example. It just stiffs creativity. Sad.
