I used to race with Mickey Thompson, nicest man you would ever meet. I just picked up a pair of MT valve covers for $5! bead blasted them and they look awesome!

We both really like the way it came out. We have one more thing we want to do to them. These covers have been sitting for over 15 years and finally get painted and put on the car. Working hard to get thing running.

That looks fantastic! My 12 yr old asked why it's called Hugger Orange. I had to look that up. From that research, my son votes for Grabber Blue as the car's color....just to piss some people off when they realize the distinction.

I can't tell you why it's called hugger orange. They had all kinds of names for the colors back then. Daytona Yellow was one me and dad really liked. Cranberry Red was the color this car was when it was new. We are going a bit different with the color and I am sure some won't like it. I can say it won't be blue.

The Hugger moniker came from the way they felt the Camaro hugged the road, thus they came up with Hugger Orange. And Mustang to not be out done did Grabber Blue.

That makes sense.

I seen a camaro just lately it had a paint job and colour too die for, the paint was a deep burgundy, how many coats I don't know but there's very few colours and paint jobs that hits you like this one did. Whew !

The Hugger Orange is definitely a bold color. Not something you wouldn't miss. We have something really different for the outside color.

That little Chevy symbol would probably look good in aluminum also.
@mossman3816 жыл бұрын
Probably but I thought it was too much of a risk with the small Chevrolet in the center.

Great job! I'm thinking of doing mine also. Can you tell me how good the paint held up with the engine heat? Thanks
@mossman3813 жыл бұрын
This car hasn't seen much use but if you use automotive grade paint it should hold up fine. People have been doing this for a long time. Make sure you keep gas off the painted parts. It will eat the paint right off. And don't expect these kinds of results if you are going to use spray cans. It won't happen and durability sucks with spray cans.

@@mossman381 Thanks. I'm spraying urethane auto paint but just don't know how it would hold up to heat. Thanks!
@hughphillips67Mustang Жыл бұрын
@@boxer71c55 no paint holds up to heat on aluminum. I've done this several times on my classic Mustangs. Be prepared to repaint if you want to keep them nice.

would have been nice if you would have told us what kind of primer and paint and clear coat you used... like show the brand/cans on camera...
@mossman3812 жыл бұрын
Back then I was using Dupont brand. I have switched to PPG. If you go to your local paint store they can answer all your questions. I don't use spray can paint. It's all real automotive paint. You will need a professional paint gun along with a compressor to run it.

Well that looks nice but to me doesn't look nothing like polished aluminum Mickey Thompson valve covers for good job each to their own
@mossman381 Жыл бұрын
I didn't polish them I painted them.
