Just a quick tip. Keep your self some political signs for patterning. They stake in the ground super easy and make a great pattern board to tack your splatter targets to. Been doing it for years and they work great and are durable. 2 or 3 of those and you have a patterning board for years.

Don’t be afraid to try the Indian Creek .555 for your 20ga. I’m shooting the .555 out of an 870 compact 20 with a 21” barrel and using Rocky Ridge 2oz no.9’s and getting 450+ hits in a 10” circle at 40yds. Tried the .562 and was getting around 370 in the 10”. Using 1 5/8os loads I get around 340 hits in the 10” with the .555 so don’t be afraid to try it out! Best of luck this upcoming season!

Those Rocky Ridge 2oz #9s are legit! I'm using them in my Franchi Affinity 3 with the factory XXF choke (565) and they absolutely hammer at 40 yards, I don't count pellets but I can guarantee there ain't nothing making it through the wall of shot those loads produce.

A single #9 TSS pellet weighs 1.21 grains. At 1200 fps each pellet will deliver 3.86 ft lbs of energy. Those pellets are going to be A LOT SLOWER at 40 yards or more, and will deliver a lot less energy downrange. A #6 lead pellet and a #7.5 TSS have almost identical energy. I would go with the 7.5 TSS or #7 TSS. I honestly have not tried TSS yet. Just doing a little research because it is so expensive.
@46TEN3 ай бұрын
Good info! Thx!
@mkeller81143 ай бұрын
Not correct. #9 tss is equivalent penetrating power as #5 lead. #7.5 is overkill unless you are landing on shooting 70 yards all the time.
@TradTech4 ай бұрын
Better than TSS? Curious. 12 ga. TSS turkey loads. Comfortable at 40-45. Help a 68 year old man out!
@Higginbottom_24 ай бұрын
Nothing is better than TSS as far as pattern density and down range energy. TSS is 56% heavier than lead and 22% heavier than hevi-shot. For instance if you use no.9 tss it’s like shooting no.4 lead shot which in turn gives you more pellets leading to a denser pattern and with the pellet being smaller it cuts the air better and penetrates further for cleaner kills. It only takes 1.8ftlbs of energy to break the neck bone of a turkey. Hope this gives you a better understanding of TSS
@TradTech4 ай бұрын
Agree 100% Used to love #5/#6. TSS rocks. No question. No plans to change what works. Still interested in new loads. Total respect to Jay. Watched him in the early days of SeekOne. 46Ten is fantastic. You go Jay!

this patterning craze shows that turkey hunters are most tag soup prone even over bowhunters. over last 30 years and hundreds of birds form me or friends and all regular ammo no tss and we never ever had issues with range -all kinds of issues getting all those birds on public land and probably most pressured in usa but never is the range an issue. sure tss is great but it has gotten way out of hand and for the money its so stupid to make it a big deal

Using. 410 & shooting at extreme ranges is stupid & disrespectful to the birds. If you can't call them in close then what's the point. Just how many are you willing to wound & let run off to die. Shooting paper targets does not equal killing power in the field. Dumbest move of any hunter is to use to little of a gun & & not respecting the toughness of the quarry.
