I keep it simple and just use LM in both barrels all the time (sporting clays). If I miss, it's not because of the chokes.

Yes 100%, technique first. Theres a reason that the top sporting shooters use 10-£20k guns but they definitely didn’t start on them!

I love hearing about chokes.... I like 1/2 - 1/2 choke . Small course's close I use 1/4 - 1/4 at the close stations. But 90% I like 1/2 chokes

I tend to stick between Half and Full which I find is generally a good range for me. I've recently bought extended Mod and Improved Mod for my Silver Pigeon, and only plan to change them out on the rare occasions that I'm required to shoot steel. For clays I really rate this configuration.

As an American, I run IC and IC in both barrels for sporting. I believe that this 1/4 and 1/4. If I don't break a target, I know that it's me not my chokes that is the cause. Thanks for the informative video.

Good video. I tend to stick to 1/4, 1/4 for Sporting and Game. 1/2 and 3/4 for Trap and Skeet and Skeet for you guessed it Skeet? I do have a set of 3/8ths which I use on the harder layouts. But as you say technique is everything so I tend not to change chokes too often.

IC and LM for the sporting clays course I shoot. SK and SK in the 5 stand I shoot. If I'm shooting my semi-auto I use LM on the course and SK in the 5 stand. That varies depending on the course. I occasionally shoot a course with much longer targets. Then I use M. I don't shoot clays with anything tighter than M (1/2).

Great video, very helpful to novices new to the sport! I have a 28 Bore would you say chokes are similar considering the diameter of the barrel being much smaller? I understand you have to be far more accurate with a 28 bore just wondering how much of a part it has to play.

Well done! However it’s not everything a guy needs to know about chokes. For instance, many people don’t understand that when buying multi chokes, that just because you have a Browning (just an example) doesn’t mean you can just buy a Browning multi choke and expect it to fit. A multi choke needs to match exactly the internal diameter of your barrel. Manufacturers make barrels to different internal diameters so they aren’t all going to be the same. Also you mentioned pattern spread but not pattern density which many dont understand. For instance a side on clay has less surface area then one showing belly and is not only a smaller target, it is harder to break. The harder to break can be solved by using a larger shot size but now your pattern density is even worse so you may want a slightly tighter pattern to increase the shot density. I’ve heard people say they plan on just using their skeet gun to shoot trap because the larger pattern will make the target much easier to hit. Problem is that they aren’t considering that patterns shot density nor how fast their skeet #9 shot loses momentum in order to break an edge on trap target. Anyway, just something you may want to address on another video perhaps. 👍🏼

I always believed, the tighter the pattern, the longer the column. But I had a level three instructor tell me it only affects the diameter of the pattern, and the shot stream is the same. Would love to have it proved.
@dgoodman1484
@dgoodman1484 28 күн бұрын
Personally I think shot column length is way overhyped considering the shot is traveling 20 times the speed of the target. Which means on a right angle target for every two inches forward the target moves the shot string will travel 40 inches.

Multi chokes are a joke ! You either hit it or you miss it ! It's a dumb way to approach a shooting problem.
@TSCTheshootingchannel
@TSCTheshootingchannel 28 күн бұрын
To some extent yeah, but that being said, your 10x more likely to miss a 40 yard driven target with a cylinder choke 👍🏼
@dgoodman1484

Likewise trying to shoot skeet or a 10 yard bouncing clay rabbit with a fixed choke trap gun is far from ideal. 👍🏼
