I appreciate how you say that the owner/collector did not collect them because they were valuable, but because he loved them. I also like how you declare that he did not use his logical mind in his head, but used his emotional mind in his heart, as his basis for buying those cars. Bravo! That's the basis for my love of 1958 to 1963 VW bugs. I just subscribed, and clicked the notification "bell" as well.

I've had the privilege to visit the Rambler Ranch several times and it is just the most amazing place. And Terry is a very gracious host, who will take the time to tell you the history of each of the cars that he owns. Its unfortunate that this segment didn't have the time to really go inside the buildings to see all the beautiful cars that he owns. Please don't give Terry grief about the cars sitting outside - they were destined for the crusher and he saved them. And in the dry Colorado climate, they don't rust and rot away. He even has a building dedicated to the Kelvinator appliances that were made by AMC. Thanks Terry, for making sure that people don't forget about the cool cars produced by AMC and its predecessors.

My employeer back in 1980-81 owned one of the 7 AMC Eagles that had the all wheel drive turbo diesel!! I use to drive it to deliver prescriptions to our customers. It was an awesome vehiclr for sure!! He owned it for many many years. The owners name was Don Cates and he was the owner and pharmacist of Oswalt Pharmacy in Seminole, Texas. I'm not sure who he sold the car to. Thanks. Sure enjoy the show. I grew up a mechanics daughter and worked in my dad's garage for many years.

Grew up in Colorado...amazing how cars stay looking great in that climate. Then I moved to Hawaii wherein plastic bags turn to rust. I took a cherry '76' short bed 4wd Chevy pickup out to the islands with me...those islanders went nuts over it. 1) because of the rarity of pickup trucks on the islands in general especially 4wd half ton pu's and 2) because it was mint condition and older than many of them were. They're not used to seeing older vehicles out there because they disintegrate. The truck had a bug screen on it and the Hawaiians didnt know what that was. There arent many flying insects or bugs on the island so the thought of needing a little plastic strip shield to keep bugs off the windshield was a silly thought to them. No joke. Hardly a day went by that somebody didn't want to buy the truck. One day a guy from the little Island of Lanai made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I hate to think of the condition the truck is in now..surely some rust has begun but if you ever go over to that little Island and see a blue & white 4wd half ton Chevy runnin' down the road with surf boards in the back you'll know where it came from and how it got there. Aloha.

to the folks wondering why these cars are 'just left to rot'...Terry is an acquaintance of mine...we lived down the road from each other. Elizabeth is at 7000', very dry, so these cars are not rotting away...probably something inconceivable to Rustbelt or coastal dwellers. Snow essentially evaporates, rather than melt. And most of these yard card were rescues that had a far worse fate in-store for them until Terry dragged them home. Fortunately he has the space to do so. Terry will pull a car now and then from the yard and restore it. One cool thing is that Terry also restores 4door sedans...not just 2 door hardtops and convertibles. Several buildings house the hundreds of cars that are kept indoors...and he is an awesome host for the clubs that come out to tramp all over what is essentially his private property. would you have rather had these cars crushed by the previous owners?
@rapidtransit8373

You're right Steve. No one restores 4 door they end up going to the junkyard. If. I was him I wouldn't part them out either. Buy the whole car if you want something. Then make one good car keep the rest for parts.

Never seen that in Europe, those american forgotten brand as Rambler, AMC are just so amazing, this wagon has an incredible baroque style. What a pity, I'm not a millionnaire to extract those treasures from their slowy death... (I'm sorry about my english, not so easy for a man from Madagascar to share his love for cars!) American cars before the seventies were really amazing, even a Nash or a Rambler make me feel so "nostalgic" about this era of great designs

GREEDY? These cars would have been crushed years ago. Have you called me asking for parts? Ask the guy that bought several Eagle parts from me to restore his Eagle. Sure there are parts I can't sell, if I sell them how can I restore more Eagles? Its not like I can go to my local AMC dealer and get what I need. Two years ago I had friends drive 24 Eagles on a road trip with me, I am saving AMC history and getting it out on the road.

Many of these videos break my heart. Put those treasures inside warehouses, where they can be protected and eventually restored. All these cars parked out in the elements is a crime...at least the many places in Arizona are mostly dry and makes sense. Colorado, with rain and snow, is just a travesty.

Wildcat drop top was my favorite. I would love to check out the Rambler Ranch. In 1980 I bought a nice solid '67 American 6 cylinder for $300 with a 3 on the tree in NJ. That was the problem with mine; the linkage would get jammed up in between 1st n 2nd gear a lot and had to be pried apart with a screwdriver. Vacuum assisted wipers. Passing another in the rain and the wipers slowed down. Otherwise the car was a well running economical tank. 2 of my other friends had American's at the time and 1 guy had a '59 wagon that had a lot of style. I saw a Javalin and a Marlin in the background. I have a customized Plymouth like that Thunderbird except it's one of none built. Into it for $12,000 and I'd have a tough time getting $6,000 for it. Parts are hard to come by for a lot of the less popular models and when you find NOS parts they are a small fortune. It's fun at car shows. Hey Tom! Why don't you make these videos longer?

I don’t know how many times I have and others commented on this channel which is great but never even get a thumbs up in recognition no reply I think when they get big with lots of loyal watchers they lose the touch of thanking there loyal subscribers making to much money to worry about some bloke in Australia that’s been subscribing for nearly 10 years. Thanks mr hagerty nice touch.

I'm Canadian from west coast B.C. In around 1990 I drove my 1958 Studebaker Lark To Penticton B.C. to visit my cousin there. He said "If you need any parts for UR car there's a Studebaker junk yard just outta town. I went and found it. Chit mon, there must have been 200 or so old junked Studebakers there. Nothing else. Only Studebakers.

Doesn't it drive you nuts when you see all of these really great project cars just hiding in barns or sitting out in the rain and the owners won't sell them? To me that's not a great person that's "saving" the vehicles but a shallow hoarder that's got theirs and no one else is going to get their grubby paws on them until the day the hoarder dies. What a waste. Great episode and thanks for sharing!

My heart literally skipped when I saw the blue chevy convertible. My dad had the exact same car. It was a beast. Great memories.
