@k0nn0r Ok, havent taken off yet but once the pilot/copilot call V1 you must take off. You can cancel the take off if theres a failure BEFORE V1. If theres an engine failure after V1 you got to take off. During take off rolling you have your right hand to the throtles, once copilots says V1 you put that righ hand to the yoke then VR (Rotate)

@k0nn0r its all in the takeoff role, it depends on how far they have gone already and the payload. they most likely anticipate that and go only like 1/2 or 3/4 of its max payload.

@houshidar588 I think he mean't the fact that his rotation was so late if he was at V1 and the engine quit right after that, they might have not had the thrust to not run into the fence...

@B787YV I know.. the whole point is, IF an engine fails, you have less thrust, less speed and less lift, so there has to be a margin. If there's a margin, why cant we see it? This looks as close to comfort as I'd want it to get as a pilot or regulator..
@KimmurielBaenre14 жыл бұрын
@k0nn0r Fair enough, of course there is one thing we havent considered here. The pilots are holding out on purpose to please the Maho crowd. I know how that sounds but it really wouldnt surprise me honestly

Where is this airport ???
@ThePilot31413 жыл бұрын
kOnnOr you are right ........... but the engines do not know that they have to manage a take of in St. Maarten :-))))) So it happens very seldom that just at V1 or better to say after V1 one engine stops!

Yeah of course !! wonderful ! now it's runway 28 since october 23, 2008 !
@organist1234514 жыл бұрын
I think there was a 250ft extension to the runway done a few years ago. Without that, this plane wouldnt have taken off!
@houshidar55813 жыл бұрын
@k0nn0r its still capable of taking off with 3 engines, i mean these 747's are so light in st maarten sometimes they dont even take off with all engines on full power maybe around 80%

@k0nn0r well quite simple at V1 the pilot has to go on and takeoff and return to the field just before v1 well yoube surprised by how fast a 747 can brake and come to a hold just before the end of the runway
@thehypersquirrel14 жыл бұрын
@k0nn0r 747s can easily go on 1 or 2 engines, it all depends on the elements and the type of engines they use. and of course a little luck :P
@k0nn0r13 жыл бұрын
@ual744 Less thrust means less speed and longer takeoff run. Of course the plane would still take off, the question is where. I have this eery feeling that the fence would be involved in this story
@tomibewi13 жыл бұрын
@Flysimulations Full flaps would slow the plane down too much and decrease lift, probably about 30%
@k0nn0r14 жыл бұрын
@thehypersquirrel I know that they anticipate that, the question is, why doesnt it show? Why does the plane have 40ft clearance at the end of the runway with 4 working engines? How does this not turn into a disaster with one engine out?
@AquaticCastle12 жыл бұрын
I wonder if having a crowd at the end of the runway gives the pilots extra pressure to get it right. Sometimes a plane doesn't make it and they slide off into the ocean on these short runways. Nobody gets hurt--except for the crowd at the end of the runway.
@peternesbitt12 жыл бұрын
I suspect the pilot delayed rotation because there were so many people watching the take off. He used every inch of the runway which is odd...in SuredT video he takes off in the identical aircraft with 500 meteres of runway left...the only explanation would be an overweight aircraft. Am i wroung?
@Gaianwave13 жыл бұрын
The runway is a good length, these guys were just heavy, maybe had cross or taii wind, possible the density altitude was high that day. This is simple, the PIlots would have calculated from the RTOW looking at the press. temp, wind velocity of the day. They would have received the v1 vr v2 realized within legal limits and performed the take off. Note V1 can much much slower than Vr. . A pilot can calculate the moment of rotation very accurately. ASDA is probably good with the water.
@tylersfs15 жыл бұрын

@k0nn0r14 жыл бұрын
Not a lot of clearance.. I really wonder what that would look like with an engine out at v1
@KimmurielBaenre14 жыл бұрын
@k0nn0r Flight crews practice regularly for exactly that kind of situation and I believe the 747-400 has the spare power to handle it. Dont get me wrong, Im certain my pants would need changing when it was all over, but I also doubt that big bird is anywhere near MTOW leaving SXM :)
@k0nn0r14 жыл бұрын
@KimmurielBaenre Yea but that's the thing, it is not at MTOW, it does not have an engine failure and the clearance at the end of the runway is what, 40 feet, 50 feet? Im sure the calculations are alright since the airport is certified to handle 747s and the 747 is certified to take off from that runway, Im just saying, if there's a margin, as there's supposed to be one, why cant we see it?

Why is a runway 27 takoff so special? Is it the prevailing wind? The beach at the end of runway? It would seem that this takeoff would be better that trying to fly over those mountains. Anyone care to speculate?
