This is SOO cool!! This week I had flew out to LA for a quick business trip! But since I was in town a little early, I headed over to the Isky Cams factory to check it out. In early 2020 I had the chance to visit - but since then they have brought in some killer new, state of the art machinery to improve the cam production process in both quality and time. In this video we go from the earliest cam machine that is in the shop (that the original part was built in the 19teens) to the newest machine and check out everything in between. Isky is RICH in history - and here is a little snippet of that history for you guys to check out. Enjoy!

You know - after hearing news reporters & commentators who don't know their butt from a marshmallow - it's really refreshing to listen to someone with the background, knowledge & articulation to explain a process and it's history in detail without a lot of BS. Nolan was a great tour host !

I forget how long ago it was but Hot Rod Magazine a profile piece on Ed. What I remember the most was him at his desk and all the "stuff" EVERYWHERE and the description of that "stuff". He knew what and where everything was. He truly was one of the last Legends that laid the foundation for this incredible hobby.

One of my first jobs was grinding cams with masters back in the 80"s, I also spray welded cams and made performance cams for my dragbike back then. Cool stuff brings back memories.

ISKY Cams are the best. I only run and will continue to run ISKY cams and lifters. ISKY cams were the hot cam back in the 60s as well with there polydyne cams. Won a lot of drag races in the early 60s.

Back in the late 50s dad used ISKY cams in his E/Gas 55 Chevy. It has been a long time since I've heard "three quarter cam" and "full race cam." Brought back memories. Thank you!

I was ready to order a Comp Cams cam for my hot rod until I saw this video and learned that Alex is sponsored by Isky. Now I"m ordering an Isky cam & kit. I believe sponsors do their sponsoring for a reason. Good choice of racer to sponsor, Isky. Alex is a new generation hot rodder who will represent your company well.

As a recently retired 50 year toolmaker/"A" grinder hand, I can say that this is the type of work that I did for years, small batches, one offs, no room for error. Those old machines were made of the finest meehanite iron and lasted forever. My last job I ran a Jones & Shipman I.D./O.D. grinder that was probably 50 years old at least and it would repeat and hold a tenth or better all day. That said, modern machines with nano pitch scales and linear motors with temperature control are accurate to microns, and due to being computer controlled, can complete the part in one operation, concentric diameters and cam lobes as well without removing the part from the machine, minimizing the possibility of errors.

Cool video Alex. I got the grand tour of Isky's by his son a few years ago. That was before the cleanup so his office was an amazing waist deep collection of cool memorabilia.... I noticed stuff like SCTA newsletters from the early 40's in the piles. Also got to see all the stuff out back... space junk, old cam grinders, old cars, prototype tires and all.... and in the lobby the Christmas cards on the wall include one from Elvis thanking Isky for his help on a movie ! Plus learned all about the cam grinding too so this is a nice refresher since the rest of the tour overwhelmed the sense too much to grasp the tech!

It's refreshing to see a company moving forward while respecting their history. I hope they always have people that can grind cams on the original machine. It will keep them grounded. I've seen companies bring new people in to move forward that no nothing about the business and won't listen to the employees when they say there will be problems with the the new processes. They been there 40 years and tried different things and have a pretty good what works. The new guy refuses to listen and destroys the business doing things that could have been avoided. Isky seems to be taking all the old knowledge and refining it, not ignoring it and trying to reinvent everything. I hope they're here in another 200 years.
