The inside of that truck is crazy. I think it had the crap beaten out of it every day since the day it was made

I would be PISSED if I found out one of my trucks was in this condition. I'm betting the workers at the co-op all shared a brain.

The truck is a pice of history and in the future we won't be seeing anymore restore the body work. Take care of it.

This looks like an LNT9000, since I see the configuration is a narrow-nose (the "N") and tandem rear axles (the "T"). "L" is for Louisville series, named for the manufacturing plant of Louisville, KY. The LNT9000 was the 1970 successor to the NT850D and NT950D series.

well done for a younger guy not easy to shift unsyncronized transmissions
@crazydiesellover13 жыл бұрын
WOW! That thing shifts really well. I am not a fan of slip shifting, but it goes through the gears very well with out the clutch. My money would be on that the spliting is done by the auxilary box attached to the back of the transmissions main box. I need to get a truck like that just to use as a farm truck. That thing is great! Didnt know they put detriots in the old heavy duty ford trucks!
@Dailydieseldose31514 жыл бұрын
This thing is awesome, it looks like someone was using the cab as the dump bed.
@novachevyguy12 жыл бұрын
no , i'm afraid you're wrong , the blower "does" provide boost (above ATMOSPHERIC pressure e.g. 14.7psi approx ) a two stroke diesel can't be "naturally" aspirated!...

All 238 HP... a lot more nuts than the 3208 which has a 7.17 rear (hits governor at 52 MPH). This detroit will pass 60 MPH and it's not out of RPM.
@dieselkenny13 жыл бұрын
That could be a decent truck if it had a good cab and getrid of the gravity box and put a good dump bed on it. Bad thing is that the cabs on those Ford Louisvilles are notorious for rusting out on the roof around the "gutter" on them.Been there done that on them.
@ClassicTVMan1981X12 жыл бұрын
@rincon680mad The engine could use some fixing up due to it idling like a 4-cycle (but sounds normal once you grind the gears).
@hasnfefer12 жыл бұрын
Classic Ford. I just sold 1991 transit. Engine works great, but rust eat it totaly
@ClassicTVMan1981X12 жыл бұрын
I sort of agree since both the 8V71N and the 6V92TA have more power than even the turbo 6-71T, which this '76 LNT9000 lacks (the 6-71N makes 238 stock HP). The 8V71N made 318 stock HP while the original green 6V92TA was good for 335 stock HP (the later Silver version topped 350 HP at stock). The 6-71T made 275 stock HP which can't really hold a candle to either the 8V71N or 6V92TA.

Put a better cab on it, junk the gravity box. I'm not sure what we'll ever do with it though, grain hauler maybe? We want to regear the GMC topkick and put a flatbed on it and haul scrap with it.
@Mahoses13 жыл бұрын
nice it even has an automatic sunroof.
@Righty73615 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you don't know what you're doing it's going to break stuff or wear out the synchronizers. On a transmission with close gears it's a lot easier. And the truck transmissions like this will "suck" the shifter into gear. But you can still break stuff on these transmissions if you're pulling a big load and get your timing wrong - IE let off the throttle too early or late and yank it out of gear.

My dad basically got it for free because the co-op was supposed to junk it.
@bj99ful13 жыл бұрын
I think that's the first time I've seen a cab roof all rusted out like that; I wonder what caused it, perhaps it was a salt mining truck or something and salt kept falling on top of the cab and caused it to rust
@73GMC150015 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't even be close since the Ford is tandem axle with diff lock and the GMC has one drive axle and no lock.

@ClassicTVMan1981X6 жыл бұрын
Wait a minute, from 1975 to 1983 your country had been blessed with the Ford Transcontinental which exclusively used Cummins power (the popular 14-liter NT series). We had similar rigs which were the W9000 and CL9000 series. The Transcontinental, which was made in Holland from 1975-81 and then in Sandbach, England (at the former Foden plant; Foden was bought out in 1980 by PACCAR, the owner of Kenworth and Peterbilt) from 1981-83, only saw just under 9000 buyers; the reason it didn't hit over 10,000 units by 1984 was because of tonnage laws in the UK at the time; by the time they began to allow vehicles over 32 metric tons there, the Transcontinental was no longer made.

No such thing as a Detroit 6-71 that's naturally aspirated.....all V style Detroit's had Roots style blowers! Even the inline 4-53.
@73GMC15006 жыл бұрын
Kent Early yes and no. They all have roots blowers yes. But they produce very little pressure, about 2psi. It’s only there for the engine to run not create more power. Because they made turbocharged versions of these engines also, one without a turbo could be considered “naturally aspirated” which for a Detroit it is. They will not run without roots blower or at least not well.
@kentearly8056 жыл бұрын
Yeah...agreed....nothing much more than an air mover than an air blower but still hard for me to call it n/a when it looks so awesome sitting up there lol! It's all about the pulley ratio.
