Didn't take long to fire up the '79 Yamaha XS750!
Time to load it on the trailer and head back East to PA.
A few diags along the way, of course :)
Enjoy!

Good stuff Ivan as usual. KZfaqrs and some viewers seem to think a carb rebuild video is worthless.....today you showed it’s not always an easy fix etc. It’s good to see that even experts run into one off problems like a broken jet stuck in the carb. Have fun on your ride friend and be safe.

Thanks for taking such good care of the 79 XS759 triple. I really love that bike. I bought one brand new in 1979 and as I didn't drive cars, it was my daily driver until October 1982 when it suddenly ground to a halt on a 460KM road trip. I had it towed to my girlfriend's apartment garage. I lived in a different city so the bike sat there over winter. In the spring I got my car drivers license so I was in no rush to diagnose and repair the XS750. Life got in the way. In a couple years we got married and built a house so the 750 got moved to the house. Five years later we moved across country and the movers moved the 750 as well. Where it sat in my garage for many more years. Then I had the opportunity for the Community College Motorcycle repair program to use the 750 as a project bike. Within days they told me that the problem was caused by gas leaking into the crankcase and diluting the oil to the point that it caused the engine to seize. (Get rid of those damn vacuum petcocks with no OFF position before they destroy your engine too !!!) They asked if I wanted to source parts and try to fix it. Because of temporary money issues, I (stupidly) said no. And I have regretted that for years. The bike was in almost perfect shape except for the engine and the rusted exhaust pipe. I have never wanted a Mulligan so badly. So thanks again for taking such good care of this beauty. It's a gorgeous design, and there is nothing like it on the road.

Ivan, loved that. I once bought a "basket case" 1984 (I think) Honda 750 - New chain - one new carb (out of the 4) - reworked the front shocks - removed the heavy stock exhaust, installed Headers, from a "4 into 2" exhaust system. Was loud - I had to ride with ear plugs. Was Black in color - all of my riding gear was Black. Put on a tiny wind screen. Was a really cool machine. I had to hang on when in 3rd gear at 6 or 7,000 rpm. :-) Loved it. Rode it two years then sold it to a guy who had been begging me to sell it to him. :-) Love the bikes.

I bought mine used a 1978 xs750. She had 10k miles and expired in a fire in our town with 89k miles. After the fire some parts were reusable. I found another one, same model for $250.00 with 11k mileage. Everything was rebuilt to specks. Watching you working on the carbs, you didn't show your viewers the carb syncing with vacuum gauges. This is very important when slowing down to prevent the shot gun effect that will harm the motor. I like the long runs and during hot days you can here knocking going on when you get off a HWY run. The xs850 has the oil cooler on them and the 750 will work too. It's a must have to reach 89k with no problems. She has a full dress, Vetter Windjammer, saddle bags and the large Vetter trunk and King/ Queen seat with back rest. One more note, use the 850 slotted brake disk's, the 750 non-slot's suck.

Thank you for being a disrespectful a-hole caring only about yourself and blinding everyone else on the road. Your headlight enclosure wasn't designed to accommodate a bulb with such higher lumens output and different pattern. It will therefore never ever provide a proper pattern due to bleeding. There's a reason things are done as they are. Retrofitting things usually never ends up giving decent result and when it comes to lights, claptraps from old housings and newer lamps are quite easily the crappiest of them all.

No sir. Never does eyeballing carbs work perfectly. That i know that as a fact! Eyeball them all day any set. Put the mercury synchronizer on it and it will prove you wrong. Smart tech, I couldn't touch you. Motorcycle carbs, you don't stand a chance. S&S, keeping, and Mikuni i have worked on for longer then you have been alive. It can't be done. Do it right. Use the tool. Teach these kids the right way.

@@richardcoleman9645 The mercury manometers are no longer available. I bought a gauge set for my 4s and I check them by teeing all the gauges into the same vacuum source to verify they read the same.

@@richardcoleman9645 lol if it runs smooth and has good idle and throttle response then I'm happy :) What do you think of toe-in alignment using kite string? Should I get a 100k dollar alignment rack?

Man, you spend thousands on scan tools. $114 not gonna hurt u but if you won't use it but once I see not spending the cash for it.
