In today's video, I take you through a full individual training session for wingers. I share my entire session that consists of a warm up, thecnical work, dribbling, crossing, finishing and also speed & agility work. We focus on the left side of the pitch today, as that's my typical position.

Awesome session bro. You've improved a lot since I first started watching your channel 5+ years ago. Keep it up man! Just a quick tip for anyone interested in barefoot training. Make sure you take it slow. Especially if you never walk around barefoot (even around your house). Or if you tend to wear shoes with thick soles all day. There's plenty of vids on KZfaq on how to strengthen your feet safely. Keep grinding everybody 💪

Liked the first ‘drill’. I used to increase the demand by challenging players to use the 3 by 3 method: “Perform a figure of 8 using 3 touches outside right foot, instant 3 touches outside left foot” - repeat 30 secs. “Then use 3 touches inside right foot, instant 3 touches inside left foot”- repeat 30 secs. Then 3 touches outside left foot, instant 3 touches inside left foot. Repeat using 3 touches outside right foot, instant 3 touches inside right foot These little challenges were to keep players making quick rapid touches so opponents couldn’t ‘jab’ at the ball or invite them to tackle. Obviously, the ‘tactical’ elements were always at the forefront... “Why are you doing this?” “What is the end result of what you are doing?” “What do I do if I can’t do it?” Also, it’s prudent to ensure that before you run without footwear, that you ensure there is no glass, nails etc on the running surface that could easily injure your feet. As for the ‘pitch sprints’...I remember a great exercise that all players could do. Put a series of cones every 10yds ... X*...WALK...*...JOG...*...RUN...*...SPRINT...*...SLOWDOWN -... Rest, Repeat in reverse...SLOW, SPRINT, RUN, JOG, WALK Repeat all x 3

I see it as more of just a part of a technical warm up rather than a drill that requires and tactical coaching or information. The goal is just to get touches with both feet, keeping the ball close and gradually increasing the speed. Just as you need a physical warm up, a technical warm up is also beneficial. Instead of encouraging longer touches I would encourage the opposite in this scenario 👍

@@7mlc Michael, Sorry for misleading you. Of course it’s a technical warm up. All I was showing were some other ways to show the same aspect of that particular exercise. Your videos should provoke ideas for players AND coaches, and this one elicited ideas from my experience and all I was attempting to do was (excuse the pun) ‘pass’ these on. Sometimes, you haven’t the time to do a full, technical AND physical warm-up, and any way to combine technical and physical elements as well as to ‘prime’ players for the session ahead fulfils the needs of your players. Yes, I know that this particular video is about individual technical warm ups etc. Sorry once again for misleading you 👍

Sprinting in socks is mad in my opinion 😂 might as well just take them off as well and get a true grounding experience. Great tip overall though to get the boots off every so often. Best of luck going forward

I actually have been grounding after my sessions barefoot, it’s been great! I just keep the socks on because there were a few prickly weeds on the pitch that I learnt about the hard way a couple of days before 😂😂😂

Hey Michael just a general question : Have you ever had any serious injuries in your past ? and if you did , how did you overcome your fear of not getting injured again ?. Like for me i sometimes prevent tackling for the same reason , But did any of your injuries stopped you from going all out in training and matches ? Hi mate, I’ve experienced injuries before and know exactly what you’re going through. The mental recovery often takes much longer than the physical. It’s something that is different for everyone. For me, ensuring I do a ton of injury prevention work in the gym 3 times per week where I focus on balance work, strengthening the muscles around the joints through plyos and resistance training gives me more confidence in the strength of my body. You may always have a little more caution than before, but it definitely improves the more you put yourself in match situations. Would love to say there’s an easy solution but it just takes time. Wishing you the best mate 💪

Yes mate, I keep my sessions mainly technical for about 2 thirds of off season to allow my body to rejuvenate from an intense season. Then around 4-5 weeks before preseason I’ll start increasing the load of my sessions to start building speed, stamina and change of direction 👍

Hey man, I have your controllo and maestro program, and I wanted to ask a question. The programs are divided into days, so do I need to master each day before progressing onto the next day? E.g do I do the exercises for day one for a whole week (as an example) and only once I have mastered them do I go on to the next day? Example: Monday: Day 1 Exercises Tuesday: Day 1 Exercises Wednesday: Day 1 Exercises etc… Or can I just do this: Day 1 Exercises: Monday Day 2 Exercises: Tuesday Day 3 Exercises: Wednesday etc…
