This dangerous thunderstorm occurred on August 29 in Syvota, northwestern Greece early morning, with big lightning strikes every 4-5 seconds.
The video was shot by Amir Milis, who was on vacation at that time and sent it to me for uploading.

I have dealt with a storm like this before in Kettering, Ohio, and it came out of nowhere. I had dinner at a seafood restaurant, and after a while, the sky began getting dark before sunset, and constant flashes of lightning began illuminating the sky. As I was heading home, the thunder got loud very quickly. Each strike kept hitting the ground nearby, and the booms were crazy. All this happened for 20 minutes before the first drops of rain fell. I was too scared to leave my car.

Probably The most intense cloud to ground barrage i have ever seen and thats coming from someone who has seen loads of vids from severe storms in the States. Whoever captured this has to be one of the most bravest people in existence, I mean he might as well have been in the middle of an ongoing mortar or artillery airstrike.

@@ahmad22568Even the most severe storms do not have lightning exactly like this. High in the sky? Yes. Striking the ground? No. The conditions needed to create such frequent strikes to the ground over one small area is very rare. It is not the same as the conditions needed for tornadoes or large hail.

@@YannisManesis Tornados need low-level shear and lifting in the ground to low-level layer (often achieved by a downdraft). Lighning on the other hand needs a strong updraft, freezing hydrometeors and a certain level of separation of charge in the cloud. While both mechanism often happen synchronically, they are still different, and even counteract each others. It's pretty much possible to have conditions that highly support lightning, but would never be sufficiant for producing a Tornado (missing sufficiant low-level shear). However, especially with cells producing Type-I-Tornados, observations and a handful of studies show that the lightning rate of cloud-to-ground flashes prior to Tornado touchdown decreases (rapidly) and stays low as long as the Tornado is on the ground. The reason for this isn't quite understood yet. It is assumed that for a Tornado to get finally produced, the updraft of the storm has to weaken somewhat. This would reduce the charge separation in the cloud and therefore the lightning rate to decrease. Once in my lifetime i've been in such a scary thunderstorm in Netherlands, arrived from Germany. It was on may 31, 2008. Never been scared of lightning as an adult but this day i was.

I remember that one! I was in the south of the netherlands and that storm was WILD. Clouds came rolling in like it was the ocean and just continuous lightning like in this video. I never ran inside so fast as I did then. Very violent storm.

This is really crazy!! It sounds like a war battle going on! One of the best frequent, intense and scary lightning videos i've ever seen, the "crack sounds" of the closest strikes are awsome!! Perhaps the person filming felt his body shaken by those huge discharges 🌩🌩🌩 2:42

There’s no rain with this either. All the energy is in the lightning. The potential for wild fires would be huge. I live in the UK, when I was a kid our house was struck by lightning it’s one of the most vivid memories of childhood. I love a good severe nighttime storm but this is the point of severity where the fun ends I’d say.

I think this was a dry thunderstorm. Those usually happens during summer if i'm not mistaken. Where the rain evaporates before reaching the ground in midair.

The center of the storm looks little far away. Maybe this was the front of the storm? I just can't believe with how dark those clouds were there was no rain with this at all.

@@heythereitsRBK2 You can see some pretty heavy rain curtains in the beginning of the video I think. It was just such an electric storm, that the lightning was striking a good couple miles ahead of the main precipitation core.

I love a good storm, but THAT would definitely put me indoors, away from any plumbing or outlets ! NO protection out on that deck/patio. Esp since many of those were ground strikes, and even the ICL was just a couple hundred feet above ground.

What in the world is this storm!? I think i just observed over 40 close lightning strikes and maybe all of them were negatively charged. I guess the environment plays a major role since i see some kind of hills or mountains beside a coastal area which may help for this kind of storm to develop especially under low pressure and enough humidity.

This has to be an extremely dangerous, Tornadic, Hail producing, Supercell Thunderstorm, I have ever seen! In the US, you sheldomly get storms, this intense, except OK, TX, MS, LA, KS, and in some cases, FL. Australia, and the Mediterranean, this would be more common, due to extreme heat, humidity, and windshear over Land/Mountains.
