My experiences reloading Q's 8.6 Blackout cartridge using Hodgdon CFE BLK powder and various 338 bullets by Barnes and Hornady (and why you want to use copper bullets versus copper jacketed lead). I have some other loads in development (once I get a new chroni) they will be posted here later. All below data is as fired from a 16 inch barrel LR308 rifle unsuppressed.
Subsonic load 14.0gn CFE BLK 300gn Bullet 943.8fps/avg vel 110.9dcb/avg noise
Gorilla Ammunition ? ? ? ? 210gn Brn TSX 3099fps/avg vel 115.6dcb/avg noise
Supersonic load -1 31.0gn CFE BLK 210gn BRN TSX 2053fps/avg vel 115.1dcb/avg
Supersonic load -2 33.0gn CFE BLK 185gn HRN CX 2214fps/avg vel 115.0dcb/avg noise

Difference in internal wall thicknesses near the head between the 6.5 Creedmore and a .308. It will be interesting to see your powder density/pressure indications between the two.

Thanks, a friend of mine got it for me a while back, and I thought since I would be showing the camera my back it might as well have something fun to say.

Hey, I've been working with my load development as well... I finally got the resized brass to work.. now I'm working on the overpressurer.. but I have been blowing the primers out. My recipe was 40gns with 185gn hornady cx bullet. May use your workup with the cfe black. I'll keep you posted! Thanks for the recipe!

You are welcome. I hope that you have good luck with it. Some of my brass I used when doing load development has been used 5 times so far. I set it aside to do deeper inspections for wear when I have time.

308 and 6.5 both work. The 308 neck starts at .019 you have to get it to .011 or below. The case wall and neck all form in the little they need to the first time you fire them. The 308 has quite a bit smaller interior case dimensions but it doesn't make much difference on subs you just back the powder charged between .2 and .5 grains.

Honestly I am not sure that it is supposed to be used with a 16 inch barrel but it isn't one of the ammo types they are making that states it is NOT. It has ridiculous recoil when compared to a correct load and my chrono results were consistent in that 10 shot iteration. If it were loaded for shorter barrels and the pressures are unsafe for a 16" then it could (and is) doing that velocity. I can't reconfirm again though because a Nosler bullet came apart and took out my chrono.

Good to know. I have some other "needs" financially first but I am hoping to get an 8.6 BLK capable suppressor this year *fingers crossed*

They probably didn’t go with 308 brass because of the 338 ferderal and that 6.5 creed is the current hotness

There are also some minor differences in the cartridge itself. The older 308 win has STRAIGHT straight walls before the shoulder. Where the 6.5 CM has a slight taper to aid extraction. Also there is the metric nomeclature of the 6.5 CM and if they were planning to use the metric "8.6" nomenclature for the round from the beginning it could be a marketing decision. SInce like you mentioned there are several other "338" (5 or 6 I think) cartridges already in use.

I say 308 brass is difficult. I tried to resize a Lake City 308 Match brass case and after about 6 or 7 tried, I could only get it about 80% resized. The shoulder is different on the 308, and why they went with the 6.5 Creedmoor, to my understanding. Also to note, the PTG reamer which I have does not fit the Hornady dies correctly, and I have a set of Redding dies that came out recently, so need to test that out. It is pretty well known that you need to neck turn the Hornady brass, but as you I recently got 100 pieces of Gorilla brass that needs nothing done to it, it's ready to go. Gorilla is also working on their own 205 grain supersonic load. I also have Hornady 225 CX I plan to use for supersonic. I have 12" and 16" Faxon barrels. Hope some of that may help. BTW, the PTG site says the 8.6 blackout reamer is SAAMI spec, but that's the first I heard of that. And I have always used Redding dies as PTG reamers have always been used on their dies, so I will most likely be sticking with the PTG reamer and Redding dies. EDIT: forgot to mention, I recently picked up 5 lbs of CFE BLK for the same reason you decided to use it, that it is so close on the burn rate chart to Accurate 1680, it shouldn't be any different in load, but needs to be checked. One burn charge has Accurate 1680 and CFE BLK next to each other.

I am new to reloading so I have commissioned a local business to do my brass conversions. I am doing some weird crap to help me keep my loads straight. So I am converting 6.5 CM small primer brass (Federal currently) for my subsonic loads so I should be able to identify them more easily in case of label failure. Then I have some 6.5 CM LP Sellier brass I am having converted for my Barnes bullets so I can look at them in the box and know what they are. Last I have some Federal 308 I am having done which I will put my Hornady bullets in. This way I can simply pull down an ammo box and look inside and know what I am dealing with in case for some reason the labels get knocked off.

@@adrenalinefueledfirearms I'm no expert reloader, but the neck size (w/bullet seated) is critical, and also it's best to have a chronograph, and I don't. Without knowing the velocity you have no clue what the pressure is. The Gorilla brass is thicker than Hornady 6.5CM. I haven't tried any other, besides the Lakeside Match 308, which wouldn't resize. I didn't anneal it, so...

I don't have a problem resizing 308 brass but the thickness of the brass on the neck when you seat the bullet makes the brass too large to chamber it needs to be neck turned
@konoctiswigwam8130

@@stkesq48 If you use brass like Hornady, which is pretty thin, and then need to neck turn, it shortens the life drastically...at least in my experience. I just loaded Gorilla brass, they use Starline. It's thicker than Hornady. I have LC Match 308 and I wasn't able to resize. I gave up. Broke the handle on Hornady. I guess all of our mileage varies. Sounds like you have it figured out.

@@stkesq48 You know what is funny, I never had as many issues with 300bo, I just found 100 cases that are all prepped, mostly Federal. Everything trimmed and chamfored. If I need to neck turn, that kinda sucks as I need to process the brass before using it. Gorilla brass (Starline) doesn't need anything.

I did all my load development with my AR. According to the Q loading charts most of the loads are more dependent on barrel length than action type but I don't have my bolt action built yet.

308 cases will need the neck turned down ... 6.5 creeds are the way to go ... less work
@adrenalinefueledfirearms

I think it is more than just the case neck. Part of the outer body is a larger OD as well. Not sure if this is a result of thicker brass or simply a design parameter of 308 from the beginning. I am a bit skeptical if it will be worth the time, BUT the person who is working my 6.5 CM brass said he wanted to try it. He has been reloading for a couple of decades longer than me so I think sometimes he gets bored and likes a challenge.
