It’s always such a pity to throw away sailing rope, it’s so damn expensive- surely there is something we can do with it ? The answer is yes and this episode I show how you can make something that will save a few bucks, make the boat look nicer and help develop some seamanship skills.

Another great video. Insurance is hard to get, so I will be checking that one out. Good luck with the Atlantic Challenge. You add real value with the channel. Thank you.

Thanks for the link to the Ashley book of knots link! I passed up on picking up an old copy a while ago, and when I went back it was gone. Awesome to have it on the iPad now!

I had trod that same insurance path for solo sailing and EW was the only one to step up.

Another great video. We share your frustration with insurance providers. It seems that many of them direct our adventures more than anything else. Glad you found coverage and thanks for the lead.

Thanks Chris, and I agree that when you are teaching a skill you have to include all of it! Good luck, fair winds following seas...etc! I can hardly wait to see and hear all about the trip! Steve

Local insurers in Newfoundland won't cover a sailboat that's in the water after Nov. 1st!! That's why almost everyone puts them on the hard here at the end of the season and there is unfortunately almost no one here doing any winter sailing...

hmm.. suddenly I’m thinking Newfoundland in winter could be interesting !

@@CSMtheMariner Oh for sure! The scenery on the coasts is spectacular even in winter. We get loads of clear and sunny days, not warm but not -30 either, and good winds. Will be doing some sailing this winter with the fellow teaching me Day Skipper, on a Hinterhoeller 28. Should be a blast!

Hi Chris, you have removed the core of that line, right? Maybe you mentioned before... Great stuff!, thanks and happy crossing
@CSMtheMariner
@CSMtheMariner Жыл бұрын
hey Carlos, yes the core is out and available now for lashings as required - using the sheath like this makes very soft, pliable sail ties which (I think) are better than the (cheap) webbing material used by sailmakers in their sail ties.

A little late I know but Just watched your video and was interested in the insurance company you mentioned but when searching the internet came across a yachting forum 2020 of someone having their boat insurance with Edward Williams and suddenly found he wasn't able to contact them and questioned if they had gone bust, this unfortunately didn't give me a lot of confidence as he said he had just paid a few months earlier ??
