In this video, we'll cover 8 habits that will improve your life substantially if you practice them - roughly - at least once a week.

1. text or call a person you haven't talked with in a while 2. do an all out workout 3. clean up your productivity system and remove any "entropy" 4. do a quick financial health check-up 5. plan and lead a high-density fun activity -> become the leader 6. create something that's not done out of obligation 7. do something on your own 8. improve an existing process in your life, even if by a small amount

#7 you can expand this by saying: do something outdoor on your own. A lot of people spend some/much time on their own but that alone-time is mostly, if not always, indoors. Going out to a cinema, theater, sports game, concert, even a restaurant or bar, can be done on your own as well. But we usually limit ourselves to doing those things when we're with other people, which is not needed. You can see it as going on a "date" with yourself. It might feel awkward but that's the point.

psteeg I have tried this and gradually you end up feeling so comfortable with yourself, that it feels like magic.
@mustafavapiwala5329
@mustafavapiwala5329 5 жыл бұрын
Areshio Izumi I can relate to the awkwardness you might feel but that’s just because you might be afraid of others looking at you and judging you based on the fact that you’re alone? (This is what happened with me initially, the reason for your awkwardness might be different). But to overcome it, simply carry your favorite book or plug in your earphones and listen to music or an audiobook.. do something that you would do when you’re alone.. I hope this helps! :) Have a good day!

what can be benefited from this?
@psteeg3551
@psteeg3551 5 жыл бұрын
@@smartwater598 it can be a step towards becoming less socially awkward (for those who are socially awkward), or afraid of going out, or afraid of doing something different than usual. The activity itself could be anything, and it's not important what you do. What's important is that you don't make yourself "trapped" at home because "everything in the outside world is scary and awkward" which is untrue.

Number 7 is what affects me the most lately I guess. I'm with my roommates most of the time and being surrounded by people for a long time just drains me. I don't get to take out time for myself and do the activities I once used to do on a regular basis like reading a book or watching a movie. I feel like I'm not working upto my potential and I'm just degrading mentally and wasting my time. Your videos help me a lot though. I wish you were one of my real life friends Thomas 😂

Nice ideas! I'd add "practice being present deeply". Our culture is focused on refining, accomplishing, doing, creating, improving and optimizing, and we loose site experiencing what ever activity is happening in a given moment, and doing this fully and deeply (i.e. eating, walking, talking, listening, showering, cuddling, playing, cleaning, sitting, etc.)

Hey Tom! Great video as usual! I was just wondering if we could have a video on the topic of using visualization to improve focus and motivation, deep work rituals and other things from sports psychology and how they can be applied in other activities like studying. I'm really intrigued by this, especially after reading about Michael Phelps' visualization techniques in Power of Habit.

Regarding Tip 8, it's not just that "there is always a better way to do something". What may have been "best" last week or last month may not be "best" now or in the future. Review a process weekly as well as your tasks and projects. An acceptable outcome can be "Yes, this is still the best way for me to do this."

I love the concept of high-density fun! most of my friends don't share this with me though, so I just do fun new stuff without them. Since a few years ago I have started solo travel, surfing, yoga holidays, salsa dancing... I learned a lot about myself, and became better at casual interactions and quickly connecting with new people. I still meet regularly my old friends as we love and support each other no matter what, but I need more novelty in my life than they do.

Habit #7 really hit home. I need to do the reverse -- i.e. get out the house and be with people. I also need to get back to updating a historical website I created. Major life events have kept me away from it, so NOW is the time. I always sort my articles by date and category. When I sort by category it allows me to work on putting all the links that go together on the same page, then move on to another page's new links. A Real time saver! Thanks for this video. It has shaken me up to make some changes in the coming year.
