The best way to smooth and clean bamboo is to heat it until the natural wax coating melts, then wipe it down with a rag. All the dirt comes off and it leaves a smooth polished waterproof surface. Sanding and scraping takes more time and leaves a rougher surface. I've been using this technique for bamboo brush handles for 40 years, it really works.

In the beginning , it was the Tinker toy and so many ideas for a build - if some didn't work it was always such joy. Now, vaulted through life, having used every tool - I'd learnt from the start, to assemble bamboo. I'll remember when I'm old - I'm young as a boy.
