I am growing amaranth for the first time this year, which is supposed to be a good spinach substitute. My brother's GF said it's great in authentic Chinese food as well but hard to find in stores in the US. The seeds can also be used.

Try green one. Also try malabar spinach (very tasty with moong dhal)! You could keep harvesting until October.

@@ChandrasekaranSrinivasan Right now I only have a red variety which adds a cool color punch. I'm thinking of ordering more varieties next year to add more color. Unfortunately it has gotten very good reviews from local beetles. I'll have to try malabar next year. It grows like a vine right? Would it be a good add to a mulch bed?
@ChandrasekaranSrinivasan
@ChandrasekaranSrinivasan 29 күн бұрын
@@JohnFerrerAkaEricSure. I see less bugs on green than red one. yes. malabar is vine type. but I don't put any trellis support... i just keep taking the leaves and cut the wines (just keep it like a small bush plant). It keeps growing well till October.

OK. The higher the hardiness zone number, the lower (warmer) the latitude. I'm in zone 8b. Is hardiness zone 9 below me because it's further south or is Minnesota below me (even tho it's north of me) based on the fact that MN's hardiness zone numbers - between 5a and 3b - are lower than my number 8a? Sorry to be so dumb, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what you mean by below and above! Lol. Duh. I guess it's all moot for me, tho. I just moved here and don't have my garden spaces prepared yet. Alas! Thanks for all you've taught me, Jag! Love your channel!!
