As you noticed in the clothing store, I've found that Italian salespeople and store owners are experts in their field. We recently went kitchen shopping and the woman helping us out pointed out features that we could have that we didn't know existed, made great recommendations on different material combinations, while pointing out areas where we could save money too. What a great experience!

Things I do are . In an outdoor market never pick up the food yourself. Point and ask. Always, always say thank you after the meal and give much praise. Smile and acknowledge others. Always dress and look nice. Make the effort. Italian people love to be with people who respect themselves. Don’t be loud and attention seeking. Lastly be positive. Italy has issues. We all know it. But your in Italy how great is that.

I enjoyed the video. One summer my 15-year-old cousin from Italy came to visit us and I couldn’t believe how knowledgeable she was about clothing and what went together and what you should do. I learned so much from her they must learn this at a very young age!

Since I have been in Italy I do sew a lot of these fantastic Italian fabrics. Once I was at the merceria for buttons on my winter coat I was finishing. It was as the most important decision! The owner plus a client where telling me that these buttons where better than these ones and they where very serious about it. Over the years I look forward to finish a sewing project to go buy my buttons at the merceria. I have to mention that they where made in Italy mostly by artisan, they look delicious!

Yes, we are currently in Positano and it was on all of the bills for drinks, lunch and dinner at our hotel (Hotel Poseidon). We have not seen any service or up charges fees on the bill. The message came on the credit card receipt for us to sign. Thanks, Michael

Those devices that keep the car from rolling backwards when you stop on a hill were on both of my old Studebakers that I had in High School. The Hill Holder was a feature on them. The Neapolitan driving habits will probably shock me.

I've noticed how bigger cities are much more 'bella figura-y' vs the smaller villages where I saw a lot more jeans and sneakers. Would you say Calabria is still a little more relaxed in this sense vs big cities?

I had that dialect experience in Puglia years ago. Couldn’t understand a word! And reading the Montalbano series! The dialogue is all in a pastiche of Sicilian dialects, which I got used to!

Wondering, in central and northern Italian supermarkets grocery bags cost extra and you bag your own. Same in the south of Italy?
