Small town Canada revolves around the hockey arena and thr curling club as often as not. If you are an immigrant, you move to a small town, becoming a supporter of the local junior hockey club or joining the curling club will get you to meet locals. In the end, we Canadians are a strange lot by the standards of someone from Europe.

Lovely video. I think when you turn mid-30s and or start having kids, most people would like to live in smaller town for that close knit feel. A former colleague of mine, left India to join a company that is based in a small town near Ottawa about 11 years ago. His wife & him are raising twin boys in the town and he says that neighbours help them all the time without asking and he never needs babysitting as the community is very close knit.

Well done! I have lived in small towns most of my life, and it's exactly as described. I especially agree with the observation that politicians care only about big cities, where most of their tax base is. I hope that the need to fill skilled jobs and the ability to work remotely will improve growth in smaller communities. For me, nature is the biggest factor. I need to be in nature (real nature) for my well-being, but I have found that living in a smaller community can be as good or as bad as you choose to make it. I love your videos. It's nice to hear about Canada from an immigrant's perspective.

My suggestion to new immigrants would be to move to a big city first and get that experience. Then travel to some small towns and see which ones you like, or if you like any of them before moving there.

That’s kinda what I’m doing, I’ve lived in a nice small city right besides an even bigger city but I got a job opportunity at a small town of about 6k but honestly I don’t mind that. I’m just worried about people saying small towns are very clique like and have lots of narcissists etc. I just don’t wanna move to some city and get fucked or be some outsider just cause I’m not from there.

Parking is NEVER easy to find in Toronto. You either pay out the arse for a parking garage or you park on the street and usually get a ticket. Especially, if you have out of Canada plates.

I think your experience is limited and some small towns are more diverse in options and cultures. Whitehorse is place that is pretty culturally diverse. Thirty years ago most foreign born inhabitants were from places like the UK, Switzerland, Germany and France and a few from China. These days many come from various South and Central American countries, and Asia with significant representation of the Subcontinent. Most significant number of immigrants since the late 90's is the Philippines. Perhaps the significance is demonstrated by the fact a both the city council and the legislature have members who immigrated from the Philippines.

Nicely done. As per usual. I would add one thing however, you have to remember that Canada is a Mosaic not a melting pot. Which really comes out in small towns. The town of Delhi for instance. Which had a population of just over 4000 in 2011. Has a thriving German and Belgium Hall. Both of which are booked well in advance. While prior to the pandemic. Their counterparts in Windsor where on the verge of closing. Which is not to say that you are not welcome in these places if you are not German or Belgium. Quite the contrary. However, the German and Belgium community in the surrounding area support these clubs and their events. Which brings back memories of going to the Belgium club for Chicken Peprecosh. ( pardon my spelling) Which was a dinner put on weekly by Ladies Auxiliary. Also, in smaller towns. The Legion is a major factor. In fact many do not know it. As it is not published. The Legion has been for quite some time the #1 sponsor of Amateur sports in Canada.

But about if want to work a screenwriter in maybe some cinema company (and being an inmigrant for Spain) but wanna live in a smalltown to find someone nice to have a family with? My dream has always been find my soulmante in a smalltwn, and raise my future kids there, not in a bíg City, but, being honest, as an inmigrant in my early 20s (probably 26 when i got there, and being someone that doesn't care about clubbing nights or anything like that, cause im more like a cozy introvert nerd girl), what would you recommend having all this aspirations in life? bíg city and then smalltown, or just smalltown and see what happens there? (Plus i will probably go there with an introvert guy -not boyfriend or anything like that, just my best friend- who is not into night-life at all). What would you recommend me if i end up going alone with all those aspirations?
