These commercials aired on WGN on May 23rd, 1988
1. Promo for "Hemingway"
2. WGN 7 o'clock Movie Intro: "Jaws"
3. Coors
4. Honda Accord
5. Centrum
6. Jet Dry (Ok then...)
7. Coppertone
8. Diet Pepsi (With Teri Garr. Originally posted way back in Vol. 3, this version is edited slightly differently to accommodate the plug for caffeine free Pepsi at the end)
9. "Jaws" Commercial Bumper
10. Old Style Beer
11. Pontiac LeMans
12. Shockwave at Six Flags Great America (This ride eventually closed in 2002)
13. Soft & Dri
14. WGN News Bumper
15. Soft Scrub
16. Summer's Eve
17. First Response Ovulation Predictor Test (I've posted plenty of ads for pregnancy tests over the years but it's honestly pretty strange to see a commercial for something like this)
18. American Airlines
19. Diet Pepsi (With Michael J. Fox and Jami Gertz. The gag with a dog holding keys in its mouth was consciously or subconsciously lifted from Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" attraction)
20. Mazda 929
21. WGN Chicagoland Calendar
22. "Jaws" Commercial Bumper
23. Promo for "Hemingway" (I wonder how they handled the uh...ending)
24. Sundance Sparkler
25. Kodak (With Bill Cosby)
26. Jewel
27. Builders Square (A subsidiary of Kmart, essentially the same type of store as Home Depot. All stores were closed in 1999 after a failed merger with another home improvement chain, Hechinger
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Builder...)
28. Promo for "Jaws 2"
29. Bell Federal
30. HBO & Cinemax Summer of '88 (13:14 WOAH they have "Ishtar"?!? Sign me up!)
31. Advil
32. Beck's Beer
33. Hyundai Excel
34. "Jaws" Commercial Bumper

The guy in the Honda Accord ad is Neal Anderson, four-time Pro Bowl running back. He played for the Chicago Bears for his entire career (1986-93.)

12:11 - "I don't intend to go through that hell again"...What Roy Scheider said to the producers of Jaws 2 before they showed him a big enough check.

He only did the movie only to end his contract with Universal (they counted it as two films, thus ending his contract) though he was paid substantially on top of that.

WGN 7 ‘o clock Movie Intro- Impressive Rotoscope animation throughout this intro. Coppertone- Every time I smell the scent of Coppertone Sunscreen, it always calls to mind going to either the beach or to the pool, and this commercial captures that feeling well. Nice rendition of the song, “Yakety Yak” they used as the jingle, too. Soft Scrub- I like how the color of the shirt the lady in this commercial is wearing, coordinates well with the color scheme of the Regular Soft Scrub (without Clorox Bleach) and the can of scrubbing powder.

I've been watching WGN all my life, being from Chicago. I especially loved the Jewel commercial, and that jingle has never left my brain!

Jaws’ behind the scenes story about the problems of getting the movie made is as famous as the film itself, so much so that there’s going to be a play on Broadway about it this fall.

Nice to see a Old Style beer commercial after seeing it multiple times in Sixteen Candles & The Breakfast Club. Chicago is one of the major cities I'd like to visit someday despite its sorted history.

Old Style - Reach For The Best! Made famous by Chicago music legend Wesley Willis as the tagline to end many of his songs (as well as other products/establishments well known to Chicago) There was another Shockwave that lasted a couple of years at Six Flags Great Adventure that started out at Magic Mountain, I remember seeing it when I went there it was one of the first standing roller coasters but it only lasted a couple of years.

Jaws-one movie Hollywood should NEVER remake(well unless you count The Meg w/ Jason Statham as a "spiritual successor") Coors Light-with one of the Barbarian Brothers @ 1:16 Jet Dry-what was with the wet suits.mustve anticipated the dishwashers leaking Shockwave at Six Flags Great America-hopefully no one ate anything before getting on this

Anytime I see Stacy Keech anymore, I keep expecting him to call someone a "wussy" like he did on Titus. And as for the story of Hemingway, I think of a purple Australian comedian puppet(Randy Feltface) talking about him in his stand up act.

When did Cinemax become known as Skinemax? We didn't have it in Canada but I remember the references.

The "Max After Dark" programming block that Cinemax became known for started in 1984...only four years after the debut of the channel. So it's pretty much always been known for it.

@80sCommercialVault I remember Max After Dark late Friday night back in the day. Always the go to for late night titillation. Unfortunately it is now a thing of the past.

8:19 Jami Gertz costars in Diet Pepsi commercial. She did an episode of Family Ties: "Double Date" Season 2 episode 17 aired Feb 16, 1984. She played "Jocelyn" & Daphne Zuniga played "Rachel" in the episode!

Was WGN, Chicago's version of WTBS?

Similar in that it was the second "Superstation" following WTBS but it's completely unaffiliated with Ted Turner/WTBS.
