I would recommend watching The Last Crusade as soon as you get the chance. It's an amazing movie and my favorite of the series. The father son relationship between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery is just awesome

I love When Harry Met Sally... that's another one I forgot about, but I used to watch it all the time. So many classic scenes from that film. Billy Crystal's best! Flash Gordon is a great slice of cheesy 80s goodness as well... I have the Arrow 4K, and it looks stunning! Thanks for watching!

Love most of the flicks you have on your list, Fuzz, you covered many of my all-time 80s favs from Fast TImes to BTTF to Karate Kid to Top Gun and John Hughes. A couple of my all-time favs (and some I know are your's too) didn't make it: Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi, The Terminator, Princess Bride. I also loved movies like St. Elmo's Fire, The Outsiders, Blade Runner, etc, but my list of movies I love from the 80s is probably closer to 100 than 20 so no way to get them all in. Thanks for the great topic and video!
@TheOriginalFuzz

You know, I've never seen The Outsiders, but I've been meaning to check it out... I bought it on blu-ray a few years ago and still haven't gotten around to it. St. Elmo's Fire is another good one.. I remember watching that one quite a bit too back in the day. I deliberately left a few key films off this list (Terminator, Aliens), just because I've talked about them recently as my all-time favorite films. So I was going for a bit of a different vibe with this list. But I agree Terminator and Blade Runner can also deliver on the nostalgia a bit from the era. Thanks for watching and chiming in!

@@TheOriginalFuzz Like many/most nostalgia movies, it most likely hits the heart if you saw it at a young/impressionable age. So hope you like The Outsiders if and when you see it, but I love it because I enjoyed it in the 80s. My daughter is 16 now and she counts The Outsiders as her #3 favorite movie of all-time, guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree! Agree with your approach on this list, if you stayed totally to the 80s favs it would be the list of the same movies we all love but best to get a wider mix of movies for the unititiated masses to experience!

It actually warms my heart that many young people today hold 80's (and to lesser extent, 90's) culture with great reverence. In fact, kids seem to envy what were able to enjoy in our youth.
@TheOriginalFuzz
@TheOriginalFuzz Ай бұрын
@@chadeldred3539 I have noticed that too... in fact, my son is 14, and even he seems to feel that way. He's taken a bit of an interest in 80s culture, and he's even said to me a couple times "It sounds like the 80s were an amazing time to grow up in." And of course, I totally agree. I miss those days. But he's also said that he doesn't care for the look of some of the movies from that time... that they look "old" to him. But he absolutely loves the music from the 80s. So I guess it just depends on which youth one talks to, and which aspect of 80s culture we're talking about. But it does seem like many people in general hold the 80s era in higher regard now than maybe used to be the case 20 years ago.

@@TheOriginalFuzz I was very young in the 80's myself, and that time in the UK was not amazing. I was too young to realise it of course, but I can't agree that the 80's was "amazing" , well, at least not in a good way. Margret Thatcher was the beginning of the end in the UK.

You are the man. Keep the good vibes, nostalgia and great movies coming. I was a kid of the 80s so every movie I saw was gods gift to man except two because I was dragged away from something else 1- saw Ragtime after waiting about 20 minutes on line for Raiders of the Lost Ark 2- saw Neighbors when I thought I was going to see Halloween 2

I totally know what you mean... I feel like the movies back in the day had a certain magic to them, and every release that I saw in the theater was an experience to be treasured. It seems like we've lost some of that passion for movies collectively as a culture in the modern era. Our perception of motion pictures was different back then. The 80s was just an amazing decade to come of age in. Some of the best movies ever, and some of the best music too. I miss it. Thanks so much for watching, and for the kind words!

Great list Fuzz. Many of those would be on my personal list, too. One that has a special place in my heart is "Romancing the Stone." The reason being, it was the very first movie that my family watched after buying a VCR. My family lived in a rural area, no cable. We watched snowy network TV via rooftop antenna. Seeing a clear image on the family console TV was like magic to me.

@TheOriginalFuzz Ай бұрын
Oh man, I totally forgot about Romancing the Stone! And I even own it lol. But you're right... that's another good one that I remember played a lot on HBO/Showtime in the 80s, and I would often come across it when it was looking for something to watch on cable. Watched it many times. Btw that's a great story I can totally relate to. My dad was an engineer, so before we ever got HBO, he built a giant home-made satellite dish and put it up on our roof, figured out where to point it, and we were able to get "The Z Channel" in (which was like a premium movie channel service I think), but it was a very inconsistent, snowy picture if I remember right (because we were getting it for "free" LMAO!!🤣😉). Fun list Fuzz. However, i have to admit, when i think of the '80s i think of Rocky. I know they actually started in the '70s, but who doesn't remember Rocky 3 and 4. Awesome movies. To see that franchise still going strong today with the Creed movies says alot about the impact Rocky had. Great feel good movies. I feel sad for our youth today. The '80s and '90s looking back now where great decades to grow up in.

Hi Dwayne! Geat to hear from you. Yeah I totally hear ya... honestly, Rocky kind of slipped my mind, but I definitely don't disagree with you on Rocky 3 and 4 (my two personal favorites of the entire franchise). They really are perfect 80s nostalgia movies. If I had done like a 25- or 30-title list, I probably would've put one of those on the list (3 is my favorite... love Mr. T as Clubber Lang). And yeah, I miss the "olden days" myself LOL! In fact, that's part of why I got back into collecting so heavily... because of the nostalgia. The 80s and 90s really were awesome decades to grow up in. I feel like the world has become much more cynical and "uptight" since then. Thanks for watching and weighing in my friend!

Hey Daniel thanks for watching and becoming a channel member as well! Really appreciate that. And yeah, I can definitely recommend Real Genius on 4K... the Sony release looks fantastic. The colors look really vibrant and have lots of pop. Very cool restoration. Weird Science is maybe not as good, depending on your perspective. It's really grainy in places, just due to how the film was made. So if you're not a fan of that kind of thing, you may want to pass on the 4K and just go with the previous Arrow blu-ray (they released a blu-ray a few years ago I think... which may be have even been sourced from the same 4K scan, but I'm not certain about that). The only downside of the John Hughes Yearbook collection is that Weird Science is only the theatrical version... doesn't have extended cut with the extra 3 minutes of film. But that may not be a big deal to you (it's not really anything critical, in terms of extra scenes), in which case you may be just fine with the Yearbook collection if you already have it. Anyway thanks again! Super grateful for your support.

Yeah I get it lol... probably a little shocking. Honestly, I'd probably have more of an attachment to it now if I'd seen it in the theaters when I was younger (though by the time Last Crusade came out, I was 19, so I was in a very different groove at that age than I was when Raiders first came out). I'm sure I'll like Last Crusade... but I can't imagine ever having the nostalgia for it that I do for Raiders. You know how it goes... films always hit us differently as adults than they do compared to first seeing them in a theater at 10 years old. Raiders I can associate with a certain time in my life (my childhood)... But when Last Crusade came out, I was largely uninterested in Indy by then and more focused on playing rock music in bands LOL! Thanks for watching and weighing in. Really appreciate it!

As for the Karate Kid box set... I was completely surprised to find that it had gone out of print. I bought it for like $35-$40 or something I think at the time on sale from Amazon (though that was before the prices on physical really started to climb). Thumbs up to Wargames, just a fun movie. Mr. McKittrick, after very careful consideration, sir, I've come to the conclusion that your new defense system sucks! I love Karate Kid. The first Back To The Future movie is a classic. In my top twenty of all time along with Raiders of the Lost Ark which you also mentioned. So glad you included Escape From New York in your list. I have seen it so many times. Snake rules! Too bad Escape From LA sucks!

For me...Heathers. Heathers is the best dark comedy ever made. It funny, dark, exciting, and even suspenseful in parts. For anyone who was ever bullied even a little in school, this is a must see. Other classic must have movies for Gen X are: Back to the Future A Nightmare on Elm Street 1-4 Mannequin 1 and 2 E.T. Black Christmas (1974) Halloween Death Wish (1-5) Mr. Majestyk Terminator 1 and 2 Beverly Hills Cop Psycho 1 and 2 The Thing Scream (1-3) 9 to 5 All the President's Men Adventures in Babysitting Dirty Dancing Gloria (1980 - very underrated movie) Kino has a great release Elvira: Mistress of the Dark Pretty Women Die Hard Indiana Jones Poltergeist Jaws They Live The People under the Stairs (very underrated and still relevant today) Truth or Dare - Madonna (fantastic music documentary. Very 90's, great music and actually very relevant in regards to gay rights today)

Oh yes Heathers is awesome!! I missed the announcement for the new Arrow 4K, but I definitely will be getting that one in my collection. Thanks for the tip and reminder of this movie. I don't have it on blu-ray, but it's a film I've seen many times. That was my first exposure to Christian Slater, and I remember thinking at the time that he was like a mini Jack Nicholson. LMAO! I loved how Slater didn't take any shit from the bullies/jocks LOL! Anyway, great list... a few from the 70s there, but I dig those as well! Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@TheOriginalFuzz I just kinda figured Gen X was exposed to movies from earlier decades because we has less options as to how to watch movies. My grandpa introduced me to Psycho and many Charles Bronson films.

That E.T. 4K has notorious issues with black crush in the darker scenes. There was a Target exclusive steelbook that replaced it. You might wish to look into that. Apparently the 1st 4K release (which you are holding) was deemed an inferior transfer by Steven. The image included with the steelbook was therefore a fresh 4K scan, which Spielberg deemed much better.

Notorious issues with black crush? This is the first I'm hearing of it. Not only did I not notice any significant issues myself the one time I watched my copy, but before responding to this, I went back and scanned through quite a few old reviews of both the 35th anniversary edition and the 40th Anniversary edition (including Bill Hunt's reviews of both editions at the Digital Bits -- a source I trust for 4K reviews), and I didn't see one mention of black crush on my edition anywhere in any of the reviews I looked at. In fact, quite the opposite... all I saw was glowing reviews of this film on 4K and positive remarks about the HDR. The Target Steelbook you're referring to is I assume the newer 40th Anniversary edition, but I'm not convinced there's any difference between them based on everything I've read (aside from the special features and the capacity of the disc used). In fact, multiple reviews I've read have all said the 35th and 40th anniversary editions have more or less identical A/V transfers... so it's not clear to me at all that there's ANY significant difference in the visual presentation between the two editions. And this is certainly not the kind of title I would ever double dip for, especially if it's not clear that there's even much of a difference in quality. So I'm happy with my 35th Anniversary edition. It looked great to me when I watched it (although it's probably been a year or two since I watched it). And the packaging is killer to boot! If you have a link or something with further information that contradicts everything I've read, I wouldn't mind checking it out. But I couldn't find anything about this notorious black crush in my research so far, nor did I notice anything egregious when I watched my copy. Thanks for watching and weighing in.

@@JimAllder11 Oh man, I hate it when that happens! I've had that "glitch" happen to me a number of times when I was trying to comment on other people's videos. It's frustrating for sure. But do I appreciate you trying at least. If you've got a link or something with more info to share, please do... I was being sincere. I would definitely like to learn more about this. I was genuinely surprised to hear this, since I didn't remember seeing anything too bad about it when I watched it. But admittedly, I probably wasn't subjecting it to very much scrutiny, since I was likely more caught up in the nostalgia of revisiting it lol. I'll have to watch it again soon with maybe a little more critical eye.

@TheOriginalFuzz yes I did I thought it was more fun than the first one, it was much more fantasy, its one of those movies, that if I am depressed I watch it to lift me up, its rates PG, so there is no nudity, sex, and the violence is not as graphic, but I agree with film critic Roger Ebert when he said he thought the sequel was superior.
