HI everyone. In this video I go over some details about my new OMTech 80 watt laser. This one has a 24" x 35" working area, and to my surprise came completely assembled and ready to go. Check out the video and don't forget to like and subscribe to the channel for more!
Here is the laser I own. I highly recommend it. amzn.to/3yXMPnA

I'm late to the game lol.. Due to so horrific issues from covid and being in the hospital for 8 months, I'm having to find a new career working from home. I'm ordering this exact laser later this week. Thanks for sharing your unboxing. Looking forward to my own soon. By the way your little helper is amazing lol

It sucks about the covid, but congrats on pulling the trigger on the laser and taking a step into a new career path! Here is some advice. If you plan on doing mostly wood things, columbia forest products plywood is amazing to use. You can order it from home depot, and it comes in maple, walnut, cherry, mahogany, and a few others I believe. That's what I use for the crosses I make (I have a video on them as well) and just with selling thise crosses, my laser was paid for in about 3 months! It's made me more money than any other single tool in my shop. Once you get yours in, if you have any questions, just reach out, I'll be happy to help.

Great video! Hard to tell from the video, how was the fit and finish of the machine overall? Many chips/scratches in paint?
@ReeseCustoms
@ReeseCustoms 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The machine was actually in really great condition. No scratches, no dings. The laser was already perfectly aligned, I basically had to just hook up cooling water, turn it on, and go. I've read horror stories from other people though. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe those horror stories are few and far between?

I have a couple of videos of different things that show the laser in use, as well as a lens cleaning video for it, but haven't done one on more specifics of the laser itself. Is there something you'd like to see specifically? I am getting ready to do a "6 months later" type video and I could include anything you wanted to see.

Did you plug your chiller into the laser engraver? Or did you plug it straight into the wall?
@ReeseCustoms
@ReeseCustoms Жыл бұрын
The chiller power cord is plugged directly into the wall. And since this video, I've actually ran a wire from the laser flow sensor to the chiller, so the chiller will tell the laser if there's water flow, as opposed to the cheap flow sensor that comes on the laser.

I am about to order the same Machine and I found your video. Looks awesome. Only thing that bothers me is I was choosing this machine partially because of the 4 way pass through. Could you tell me what you figured out with that side to side pass through? That definitely doesn't look right as soon as you show the view in there. Is it even usable or did they make a major mistake with that design? Like it really does look like you can't even fit a 1/4 inch thick piece past the laser. Or does it actually raise up or something? Thanks.
@ReeseCustoms
@ReeseCustoms 3 жыл бұрын
Great question Shawn! Thank you for taking the time to ask. So initially I thought maybe it was a passthrough, then I thought maybe it was just an opening for ventilation... I'm still not 100% on what it is, but I'm leaning towards some type of ventilation slots and here's why.... If I am cutting 1/4" material, with the laser nozzle focused, the bed of the laser and the bottom of that slot are the same heights. So if you slid a long piece of 1/4" material in from one side and it would work great. I've cut big pieces 3 times like this so far. However, the slot itself is not very big, so I doubt anything much more than 1/4" could fit through it, and even if it did, if you are cutting something thicker, the laser bed will need to be lowered for focus. When that happens,the bed won't be even with the slot anymore, so your material won't be flat, it will be kind of going down hill, if that makes sense. So unless they made a passthroigh that is specifically for 1/4" stuff, they are there for another reason, but, like I said, you can use them as a passthrough. ( Sorry to be long winded, if that doesn't make sense, let me know and I'll try to explain it better.

Do you do any deep cuts? Like quarter inch acrylic? I'm wondering if you upgraded the exhaust or air assist?
@ReeseCustoms
@ReeseCustoms 2 жыл бұрын
I do deep cuts often. I've even cut up to 1/2" plywood with multiple passes. I haven't upgraded anything on the laser. The only "upgrade" I have is the exhaust hose coming from the laser runs to an exhaust fan on the side of my shop.

@@ReeseCustoms On your milliamp display, is your knob turned to "Max"? My laser won't fire and the Amazon Omtech person is saying that I need to turn it to Max in order to "turn on the current".
@ReeseCustoms
@ReeseCustoms 2 жыл бұрын
The knob on my miliamp display actually doesn't do anything. I can turn it all the way both ways, but it doesn't make a difference. Make sure you have water flow, that will interlock the laser. And I know this may sound obvious, but make sure the key is switched to on, and the emergency stop isn't pressed.

Almost a year later do you wish you would have gotten the 100W or the 130W ? if so why Subbed
@ReeseCustoms
@ReeseCustoms 2 жыл бұрын
Rick, personally for me and what I do, I can't really see why I would need the 100w or 130w. The 80 cuts/engraved everything I need it to. There have been maybe a handful of times I wish the working area was larger, but I was able to get by using the pass through slots, but I've never said "man, I wish this thing was more powerful". The only benefit I see for me is it would be faster at cutting or engraving, but I have been happy with the speed of mine.

@@robbillpries6198 I have a rotary but I have not used it yet. If I had to guess, I could get about 5-6 inches of space on the z axis, even more if I take out the honeycomb table and knife blades underneath. I believe that is how most people use a rotary with this laser.
