He has heaps of videos showing how he does it, and there are lots of other people who have tutorials and plans available on the internet. Everything you need is out there, so if you are still waiting for someone to tell you one more piece of information I suspect you aren’t really very motivated to actually make the thing.

@@pieflies Not everyone watching these has the tech savey you may have re. how to find this stuff, doesn't mean they are unmotivated. Fact they are asking for more info demonstrates motivation.

@@ptbaily1 ​​⁠​⁠maybe, but I can only speak from my own experience and what I have observed in others I’ve had to teach things to, and in those cases someone wants to be spoon fed all the information usually ends up not having the motivation to stick with that thing once they are on their own. People who just get in and give something a go tend to learn faster and more deeply and have already shown that they want to do a thing enough to get themselves out of their comfort zone. I wasn’t saying it in a mean way, more in a practical way since that’s usually how it works out and if they really want to make boards they should just get in and give it a go instead of waiting for more information to come to them. I don’t entirely buy the tech savvy argument, since they are already watching a video on KZfaq and there are lots of tutorials on here but I agree that everyone isn’t starting from the same place in that regard, which is the same with anything. Learning how to learn is part of learning. Asking questions is only a small part of it. It’s what you do with the answer that matters, and what you do if you don’t get the response you need. Can you take the initiative to get the information you need. I know that I can do that, but I also know that with a lot of things I have a passing interest in, I’m not interested enough to actually make the effort to do it. It can definitely be hard to know where to start though, and a new topic can be overwhelming when you’re just starting out, but there are lot of resources out there that can help. In fact there is often so much information available now that you can get stuck taking in information and never actually doing the thing you’re learning about, which is another trap you have to watch out for. Depending on where you live there might also be people you can learn from in person if you go looking. A lot of people will do better that way vs having to direct their learning for themselves but again, unless you’re a child being forced to go to school you have to seek out your teacher for yourself. Maybe the original commenter got no response, then went off and sought out the information they needed elsewhere and has success, in which case my comment was irrelevant to them as they already did what I was suggesting. But if not, or if someone else wanting more information comes across this comment, I hope they will not just wait and hope someone feeds them the information but they go and seek what they need to get going.

Yes, I find the cubitron to be far more efficient than the other brands. I use way less of it as it lasts a lot longer and it speeds things up immensely. Worth its weight in gold if you tend to do a lot of sanding.

That is definitely the correct sequence of milling. My jointer is no longer up to the task of face jointing hardwood and I need to get a new one. So what I do is pick out the straightest boards I can at my supplier and skip plane them which gives me some satisfactory glue faces.

I make mine beefy, these are nearly 2.5". I find the added thickness gives an end grain board an added rigidity that keeps the board from wanting to warp

Having a groove all the way around can make sliding chopped things off the board tricky. I've often thought about trying a 2 or 3 sided groove and leaving one side open. And from a labour standpoint, they aren't very much fun to sand

Simply to minimize the cutoff and maximize yield of strips during the bandsaw step where I slice everything up at a 45 degree angle. Planer is a King Canada

@@ryanhawkins Thanks that is what I thought then I watched your video on the falling block boards and you mentioned it You are truly a master craftsman.

I've worked with pure tung oil before and the stuff I used recommended at least 3 applications and minimum 24 hours in between and it also had quite the odour to it even after fully dry. With mineral oil it's a simple matter of dipping the board, letting dry and then on to wax.
