BIG NEWS: Reason 11 is now available as a plugin for Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, FL Studio, Cubase or any other DAW! Learn more about the Reason Rack Plugin: www.reasonstudios.com/en/reas...
Take a listen to Hip Hop, Trap, Pop, EDM, or just about any other genre these days and you'll hear the distinct tones of the "808 Bass" - a term used to describe tuned and pitched sub-bass lines whose origins come from a classic drum machine, not a bass synth. But as standard as the 808 Bass is, the way everyone makes them these days is not quite as standard. That's one reason why 808 Bass sounds and bass lines are something of a mystery for aspiring producers, beatmakers and a vital part of beat making.
In part one of a two-part series on 808 beat production, we take a look at the origins of the 808 Bass and the philosophy that goes into creating custom patches and writing 808 bass lines.
808 beat prodcution: 808 Bass Lines - Part 2:

I really appreciate these tutorials. They are getting better and better, and help pull the curtain back and demystify certain aspects of music making that people generally over complicate. The Cheat Sheets and rack extension tutorials are invaluable, but I think your video on general sound dynamics are also incredibly valuable to hobbyist musicians like myself. In particular, your video on 'levels and clipping'... It was less about techniques & plugins, and more about visualizing whats under the hood. And that visualization really changed the paradigm in which I view/create and understand digital music making. I'd like to see you do a series on general sound dynamic 'fundamentals'... for example, after watching this video you demystified saturation quite a bit! I realize now how poorly I don't quite grasp the fundamentals of Distortion and Saturation... and how that relates to coloring and adding 'warmth'. Is there an opposite to 'warmth'? How do these principles apply to brighter/higher notes & sounds? And how all these principles during the process of music making are relative to what it's being played alongside with. Wishful thinking! Either way, thank you again for the videos! I'm looking forward to more :)
