Ryan your editing and explanation always amazes me, you really did my example justice! :D BTW some extra tips for any people wanting to recreate it, also make sure to sidechain the sub to the kick drum! Helps eliminate any phase cancellation

Man you kill these tutorials... You actually taught me something (How to effectively use THOR) and showed me an alternative to something I was already doing (Automating the release for the cutoff). For that I would just make a "Ghost Note". Create an extra note where I wanted the cut off to happen and turn the velocity all the way down.

So as a relative novice I just wanted to thank you for walking me through how the synths work. I've been making music for years with the presets and drum machines but every time I watch one of these videos I learn more about how to get the most out of the software. I can't be the only one who is consistently inspired by these videos. Keep em coming!

This tutorial is deceptive - in a good way. You go in wanting to learn about 808 Basslines and come out knowing more about Thor Synthesis, if you are a noob like me. Thor is my favorite synth to use in reason, I've always wanted to experiment with making new sounds... this makes it seem much more approachable. I don't know how you do it, but keep it up!

always useful to see the way other people go about doing things, even if it's something u thought u had down - ive been making synth 808s for a while n never wouldve even thought abt using a low passed square wave for any of the tone for one , always been triangles and sine .. simple thing but sometimes the simple stuff never occurs 2 u

@ReasonStudios
@ReasonStudios 7 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? If you press stop once you'll go back to where you last placed your timeline cursor. If you press stop twice you'll go back to bar 1. What behavior are you missing? /ryan
@ToneCre8
@ToneCre8 7 жыл бұрын
Pressing stop once actually leaves you at the current position of the playhead. Stop twice - returns you to where you started from and stop 3 times returns you to bar 1. Really wish there was a preference for this behavior.
@NetFink
@NetFink 7 жыл бұрын
Umm Shift+Enter (Win) will get you what you need too... right to the beginning .. what happens on the transport bar is what Ryan said.. but as long as you don't move the timeline cursor.. you get what you want on the transport stop button.

one thing people can't get out of is the fact that ProTools is considered to be the industry standard for some reason. I deal with this problem here in KC. I've got introduced to reason 4 almost 10 years ago, and I've hooked since, when they added everything together in 6, I completely stopped using protools all together, but I have guys that i record, and they don't want to because they're used to protools, then I have to sit here and give a lesson on DAW's and how different, but completely the same, so it's cats not knowing anything but what they know I guess

I personally like the first tutorial simply because it was pretty universal, I did it fine with GMS on fruity loops, but I tried doing this one with sytrus, GMS, AND a layer of 3 3xOscs, but couldn't quite get it xD Different limitations for different plug-ins I suppose haha. Still was a good watch!

Just a head's up, Scream's tape saturation on a split or parallel signal is never a good idea, because the tape saturation algorithm effectively reverses the phase of the signal entirely. (don't ask me why). If you've ever had thin sounds because of it, that's why.

Super dope tutorial! After watching for a second time I get that the mod wheel quack control is prolly the best compromise but wouldn't it be easiest and more 'perfect' to just make the sickest 808 you can for a single pitch (like "G") and sample it and play it off an nnxt or what have you?
