Thanx for the wonderful guide / walk through. You forgot to tell us when to put the plastic bracket back so I ended up forgetting it and having to take the whole thing apart again. Thankfully I could leave all the cables in except for the battery cables. Also it would have been nice if you had warned us beforehand about your struggles in removing the charging port as I paused the video (obviously) too early and almost panicked when I couldn't get it off. I ended up cutting it like you did before I saw that you'd done the same. LOL. Once again thanx for the video I wouldn't have been able to do the procedure without it.

Thanks for keeping this video up! Excellent quality, very well explained in detail. My charger port was out for years and rather than pay hundreds for a new gamepad, i spent $5 on a replacement port. Keep up the awesome work!

8bitjunkie, Thank You! I think I'm going to have to do this soon. I too have had trouble de-soldering ports and such from devices, so I appreciated you showing the alternate method with the Gameboy. Also, I appreciate that you show so many details without a lot of fluff (ie. chatter, repeating what you say, ums uhhs and so-on).

I usually wedge a flat head screwdriver or something under the component keeping pressure on it while working the solder points with my iron.

@8bitjunkie one of the prongs inside the socket of my Wii U gamepad kept getting bent and broke off. I was wondering if you thought it would be possible to solder wires on to the socket or the pcb without removing the old socket and just put a different type of plug / connector on those wires and the wires from the adapter. I was thinking of doing this since the socket is kind of a bad design.

Thanks for your video. I was wondering why my WiiU GamePad came with 1 less screw on the RZ side bracket. It seems some batches are not screwed on that position.

What port do GamePad have and charge cable do it need?
@pt187776 жыл бұрын
I’m lost. My kids gamepad wouldn’t power on. I figured maybe it was the battery as bought this for them when it came out in 2012-2013. Ordered a new battery and replaced. Now it powers on but won’t charge. I seen this video and another one where the guy says to replace motherboard. I don’t want to just order things and replace that I don’t need. Any advice on how I could tell what needs to be replaced?
@8bitjunkie86 жыл бұрын
First use a multimeter to check the output voltage of the charger to rule it out as the issue. Then apply 5V directly to the power input pins on the motherboard to see if it will charge. If it does, you should replace the connector. If not, you will probably need to replace the motherboard.

Hi, I have a gamepad where the LED turns blue then amber when trying to power the unit on. Nothing shows on the display. The wii u system actually see's the command and powers on but then the system does shutdown as well when the pad shuts down. Just to note though, the system itself works fine when turning it on by pushing the actual button on the front. I did replace the digitizer about 2 years ago when it broke and it worked great up until this point. My question is can a bad digitizer cause the unit to start to power up but shutdown almost immediately? I have no problem replacing it again if it is in fact the issue, Thanks for any help you can offer. Eddie

I don't really know. But, I've seen DS Lites will do something similar if you try to turn them on when certain bits are disconnected, like it does a self check, sees something is wrong/missing and then shuts down. I'd try opening it up and re-seating all of the ribbon connectors; one of them may have come slightly loose. If that isn't it, replacing the digitizer doesn't cost too much to try it.

Would this work for the WiiU Pro controller? My boys jammed the cord in and busted the charging port, and Nintendo won't repair it. I'd rather not fork out the money for a new one if this is something I can do myself. Obviously some of the cords are going to be slightly different, but I would imagine it's pretty identifiable inside...?
@8bitjunkie87 жыл бұрын
Possibly. I'm not familiar with that charger. This is a board level repair on the Wii U which is fairly advanced repair. I don't know your skill set to know if It's something you could DIY

Would you be willing to perform this service if I covered shipping both ways, the port (from your eBay auction) and your labor? Please let me know, would love to save my son's Christmas since the port stopped charging recently. Thanks again!
@8bitjunkie88 жыл бұрын
+Luis Perez We could work something out; email me at 8bitjunkie8@gmail.com  However, considering how close Christmas is, I would suggest getting this charging cradle instead.  It bypasses the top charging port: amzn.to/1SsB7dn

Good video, but I would like to know why you choose to replace the port parts, is that the only analysis to cure a wont turn on wii-u. My grand son drop mine and the light turn off, and it havn't turn on any more. what else can I look fore.
@8bitjunkie88 жыл бұрын
only if it won't charge via the top port but will by the docking port. If he dropped it and now it won't come on at all, I'd assume something came loose inside. Sometimes your local cell phone repair type place might be able to fix something like this.
