9-BALL: John Schmidt, at 46 years old with a record 626-ball run in straight pool, has always been a threat considering he was the 2006 U.S. Open 9-Ball champion. His opponent, Justin Bergman, at 32 years old and a Mosconi Cup winner, was at the top of his game, so he was ready. The match was played at the 2019 International 9-Ball Open.
Mark Wilson was joined by Jason Sword in the booth.

Thank u Bruce Smith for defending me.ive won about 41 titles total and I appreciate u mentioning some of them. These guys saying I suck and made 72 dollars off my run crack me up. I made about 50k from the 626 and I think those guys got picked on alot in school. Anyways thx bruce

You’re a truly great player. Don’t ever give a loser hater a second of your time… but your right, and they’re mad they can’t run 30 balls

The non-compliant break rule is ridiculous. They are hitting it plenty hard and yet still come up short often. They should make it balls past the side pocket instead of the head string or just stick to the old four balls have to hit the rail. Soft breaking does not hurt the game.

At 57:45, they talked about the advantages of a shorter player-not having to bend as far, and less distance between the hands results in less wobble. I’ll add that shorter players who are good leave the cue ball where they can reach it, which means they develop cueball control earlier than taller players out of necessity. Thanks for posting this match-nice to see players at this level make some of the same mistakes that we do! Difference is, they recover so well.

This is why we need more 9’ tables in pool halls nationwide instead of 7 footers. That placement you speak of needs a lot of work. When I started out, I always tried to get the cue ball close to the object ball. Now I sometimes purposefully leave it farther away so I can reach it.

The break they're talking about at 1:30:15 was compliant because he made two balls on the break and the 2-ball went into the kitchen. I think they just missed the second ball going in. Even though neither player played up to their normal standards, it was a great match with excellent commentary.

For professional players I think a dresscode should be mandatory, to have pool be considered as a sport, you have to treat it like a sport. Atleast John is taking his job serious. If you show up like it is a vacation, do not complain about prize money.

@Roy Cohn i think the rule should start with black dress shoes and black pants. For the shirt it may vary as UTG is doing the shirts for big events now. But at least it is consistent. But a shirt with a collar is a good start. In many leagues in europe (eurotour) there are clear rules, even how big sponsor logos can be, placement of sponsors and of course dress shoes and black pants. This goes for male and female players. For the Asian events it is normally even stricter with button up shirts with bow-tie or tie. Hats are of course never allowed.

@Roy Cohn yes, and with Jeremy being one of the ‘pushers’ for young players. He should give the right example. Jeremy is a great player and people look up to pro players.

If its that hard to have a compliant break, then bring out the big stick and grip it and rip it!

That 3 point break rule is idiot and isn't helping pool in any way. What sense does it make if you make 2 balls on the break and because one ball doesn't pass the head string then your opponent chooses whether you shoot or he shoots and you can't push out if you're hooked? Dumbest trash rule I ever heard of.

As far as entertainment, Justin is boring to watch. Sorta like Ralph Soquet.
@onepocketpaddy
@onepocketpaddy Жыл бұрын
justin does waste an inordinate period of time, check strokes an excessive number of times, and is the poster boy for reducing the seconds between shots. In rotation games, a great player knows the next shot before the cue stops rolling.
