Timo Glock basically had inter tyres but they were so dead that they looks slick and allows Hamilton to pass him and get his 1st crown.
@FluppiLP
@FluppiLP 6 жыл бұрын
no Glock had dry tyres These tyres had grooves not designed to deal with rain. Besides the important factor in the rain is not actually the water but the tyre temperature that goes once you encounter water. So even if there is no aquaplaning you drive like on ice because the tyres are not in the operating window of 100 deg. F1 tyres are designed to operate at 80-100 deg, street tyres are designed to operate on 20 deg or something like that. If you find yourself on a winter tyre on a relative hot/warm day you can feel how the grip goes away after only one corner because the tyre gets too hot - outside of the operating window. If you take an F1 tyre and operate it at 40 deg then you are in real trouble. You can watch DTM races of last year where they had no tyre warmers. Once they leave the pitlane they really struggle and lose about 2 sec in 3-5 corners until the tyres have a reasonable temperature. That's exactly what happened to Glock in 2008 except that in DTM the tyres warm up but Glock's tyres couldn't warm up due to the water. Once Glock's tyres had cooled down they were stuck at low grip. (watch the Spa race in 2008 and you will find the same thing. The drivers on dries had no chance against the drivers on wets) It's not necessarily the grooves that decide if a tyre is capable of running in the wet. It's mainly the compound and how well that deals with temperature. And if it gradually starts raining the temperature is the first thing that goes, leaving you without any grip. Wet tyres are a lot softer, that's why they burn up in the dry but they keep their heat in the wet and that's what you want.

The Italian Grand Prix back in 2000. Schumacher scored his 41st victory in Formula One, equaling Ayrton Senna’s record. In the press conference he was asked if those records mean a lot to him. He replied: “Yes, it does mean a lot to me.” Then he broke down crying, as Mika Häkkinen and Michael’s younger brother Ralph, try to console him. That was a very powerful moment, and my all time favourite Michael Schumacher moment. #KeepFightingMichael.

That day if I recall correctly a steward died following a crash. Some media stated that that was the real reason for him to cry ... some speculations were made up, I suspect because Italian media at that time struggled to make look him a little more "human"

Hungary 1998. Stuck in 4th and with no chance of overtaking, Ross Brawn made the call to switch Michael to a 3 stopper but in order for this to work Michael essentially needed to put in roughly 25 qualifying laps on the spin. And he did it with time to spare! Just incredible!

it says a lot about his character he a narcissist and in that car he made it his priority he defined himself in the car thats the sacrifice he made to get the absolute most out of his chosen career. To get to the absolute pinnacle he had to be a different kind of person. But also saying F1 is where you need the maximum concentration is correct for other drivers but he isnt one of them. He could have had the radio on half the time and i dont mean the one from the team.

Michael Collins with illegal upgrades to the car that's why he was so fast. That had to be taken off by the next race. Ferrari cheat so much it's impossible to tell how much of it was legitimate. I can't stand him but Michael is a legendary driver probably second all time. With all the cheating and Ferraris dirty politics involved, his reputation suffered. It's a shame cos he was so good he didn't need to do any of it! Probably would have ended up with 4-5 titles minus the cheating, dirty tactics and Ferraris influence on the FIA. With his reputation intact and a respect worldwide instead of the way it is now.

Monsta Lova, enough of your conspiracy theories. You idiots will come up with any pathetic excuse so as long as it makes one of the best drivers of all-time look bad just so you can prop up your champion. Go the fuck away. You read from tabloids and I'm not interested in some opinion piece from a dumbfuck like you. This didn't come from any article. It's just your mere opinion and while you are entitled to it, I don't like it when someone goes and acts like they know what they're talking about when they don't. Show me the article or fuck off. I'm sick of you idiots who scoop up any negative pathetic tabloid story that is unproven and try to spread it like high school rumor gossip. This isn't preschool, you fucking moron.

Nephenthal, if you had actually watched every bit of formula1 TV, and read every copy of Autosport every month from 1994 to 2004 then you would know that Ferrari sailed close to the wind all the time, and also that Micheal was pretty ruthless and unfair as a driver, compared to most. But so did the other teams stretch the rules, so Monsta Lovas criticisms are not without merit. I became a MS fan at the Spanish gp of 1996, because his brilliance overcame my previous dislike of the man. Its true he was so brilliant that he could have played more "cleanly" and still bagged 4-5 championships. His desire to win was obviously more important than being a nice man (in a car anyway). All your nasty words just show your ignorance!

Gordon Fotheringham the gearbox actually jammed in fifth gear on his in lap before his first stop, of two. As an amazing by-product, the fuel economy actually improved relative to what they normally would expect. The reason for this was because he was trying imaginative racing lines to minimise the amount of hard acceleration out of the slower corers

sj brigante No, Mercedes dominated 3 years with both cars and a completely dominating machine. Ferrari was never that dominating. During the Mercedes domination other cars could only win when the Mercedes crashed each other. Hamilton is nowhere near Schumacher or the other real all time greats. It's not only his fault, it's hard to be legendary in times of DRS and with most people thinking the car is too overpowered. Schumacher, Prost and Senna drove in way more exiting times where driving was more pure and they earned legend status by winning crazy races out of skill and not by pushing a button.

Spain 1991, Spain 1993, Monaco 1993, Monza 1992, Suzuka 1992, Brazil 1994, Spa 1994, Nurburgring 1995 (insane last 10 laps!), China 2006, Monza 2004 from the back, and the sheer speed of his laptimes until team orders stopped him passing Barrichello.

MelssuperC you hit the nail on the head, all of these expressions of who is the best driver are opinions. Due to the sport being a very different breed from when it started in 1950 compared to today, there is no way to say that any one of the great drivers to have competed in the sport over the years is definitively the greatest of all time. The best we can do is to say that the individual great drivers are the greatest of their era. Take Schumacher and Senna for example, yes they raced against each other from 1991-1994, but they were at very different stages of their careers. Senna was towards the end of his career in 1994, even allowing for his untimely death, and Schumacher was making more and more of an impact in his own right

Letting Ralf Schumacher unlap himself in the 1997 French Grand Prix as he was 7th and something might happen on the last lap. David Coulthard (I think) retired and Ralf got 6th and a point for Jordan. Michael was busy winning a race in mixed conditions on slick tyres and still could think about someone else's race at the same time.

His 1st race back after breaking his leg in Silverstone (1999) was the 1st Malaysian F1 grand prix race in decades and he qualified in pole position a full second ahead of everyone. Then he held Hakkinen back the whole race letting Eddy Irvine get an easy win. That was one weekend that he proved, again, that he was on another level than everybody else on the track.

In 2002 Schumacher won the title in France, I think it was July. He was on the podium all races, 11 times as a winner, the rest as runner-up except one he finished third. Barrichello won four races and was the runner up in the drivers championship. Ferrari as a team got the same points as all other teams combined. In 2004 the Ferraris were even stronger, with Schumacher winning 13 times (and only slowing down after winning the championship in Hungary in August, just one race after France). In 2002 the F2002 won all races but one in which it raced (it finished second in the single one it didn’t win). The F2004 was even more dominant, in fact it was perhaps the fastest car ever made, it still retains a number of record on several circuits. In 2001 the Ferraris won easily, and in 2003 and especially 2000 they had tough rides to the championships. That depended on the quality of the competition, with MacLaren Mercedes and Williams BMW both having powerful cars and fantastic drivers such as Häkkinen, Räikkönen and Montoya, as well as very good ones such as Coulthard and Ralf Schumacher. It also depended on the tyres, which were not the same for all teams (whereby in certain conditions certain the tyres of Bridgestone or Michelin gave considerable advantages). And overtaking without DRS was harder. All this notwithstanding, Schumacher won the drivers championship five years in a row, and Ferrari the constructors championship six years in a row. That’s the very definition of superiority and dominance

+ Wopper Gaming The British are still hurting over Adelaide 1994 and the 1995 seasons. in 1994 Schumacher received a 2 race ban for passing the lead car on the formation lap and he was also disqualified for the race. That seems overly heavy handed considering that many other drivers had done the same thing without any penalty at all. The 1994 season only went down to the final race due FIA tampering and favoritism towards Williams. In 1995, Renault came onboard with Schumacher's Benetton team replacing the Ford Zetec V8 that they used during 1994. Well Schumacher romped to 9 wins and totally dominated Damon Hill in the Adrian Newey designed Williams and could have had a couple more wins if it weren't for half-baked overtaking attempts by Hill at Silverstone and Monza that result in both cars DNFing.
