Watching this morning, I deleted all my social media 10 months ago and I still feel the impact of it even now. Even if I left the internet completely, I still believe it would take 10 years to completely not feel the impact of it.

Yes, I think social media has a far bigger impact than we realise.

I’ve done this years ago when instagram came out etc. I never jumped into Facebook because I know that I compare myself to others to easily and it causes depression. I’ve only allowed myself KZfaq. I love 10 minute videos on creating/chats/ideas etc but the KZfaq shorts addition that can’t be removed permanently has me scrolling mindlessly and is now a disservice to my mental health.

This video popped up on my feed, my first time watching anything of yours. Today was my last therapy session (had 18 months of therapy, every week) for c-ptsd. I’m now on my own journey of being there for myself, being authentic, loving myself and following through with what I feel is my purpose, all while navigating what I want/need vs what others might want from me. A month ago, I took one step towards simplifying my life by eating the same thing for breakfast and doing the same with lunch. Having too many choices can sometimes be paralysing. By taking the choice out of those two meals, it has freed me up to look at and be thoughtful about more important choices. Your video came at just the right time 🙏

I like your list. Pretty simple and basic but can result in significant positive change. I’ve started setting a timer when using my devices. I’ve also “pushed myself too hard” when it comes to my own expectations for me. That felt like a burden and hard. It’s a relief to let go!, go for a walk or sit outside or have a nap. Thank you.

Setting a timer is a great idea - time can really get away from us when we're online.

I would say the single most important thing is not to fit things into your life because OTHER people want you to do so. Figure out whether you have any sort of obligation to them to do so (eg doing your share of housework if you share your home with someone else) and you have to fulfil those obligations. But - if there isn't a moral or legal imperative to do what someone else wants - then don't try and slot it into your life. My own "put my foot down" moment was that I moved from England to West Wales (ie a very Welsh-speaking part of the country) and pressure is put on people to learn Welsh (whether we want to ourselves or no) and I spent my money and my time doing so initially - until I realised I'd been pressurised and I had no wish or need to do so myself - and so I chucked all my books out and stopped. I had quite enough on my plate with renovating my house (in an area with unreliable workmen), trying to get to know the area and make friends etc etc that there simply wasnt anything left to fulfil other peoples wishes for me. That situation must crop up in a lot of peoples lives - eg husbands trying to get their wives to do their share of the housework for them etc. So I think we all need to think "Do I myself need this? Do I myself want this? Is there any moral obligation to do this?" and stop if the answer is no to all those things.

Really good points, thank you! We can get swept up into doing things and sometimes it's only when we take a step back that we realise it's not necessarily something we want to do but that it's based more on other people's expectations.

I really appreciate the insights you shared with us. We all as young childs had all that clarity and energy towards life. I think we should go back to that energiful, loving, and peaceful insight first. ❤
