In this video we move a 900 lb Native Trails Avalon bathtub upstairs and into place. It took 8 guys, a mini grade-all, and a lot of planning to make it happen. We used a Jacuzzi MZ-20000 drain alignment kit for the tub rough in and a Brizo faucet. Stay tuned for part 2: the tub installation. Should have the video up next week. Thank you for all your comments! You guys rock. BTW floor joists are 2x12 DF and 16 o.c. The tub will sit diagonally over three joists that are approx. only 4’ from the supporting glue lam beam. Great questions!

Love your videos. This one in particular. I left a job in healthcare, sitting at a desk for 26 years to enter the trades not only for me but to train my son in the industry. The mental health uplift was amazing and there is nothing more rewarding than building. Plus you helped me figure out to install the 900 pound tub my customer requested. :-). Keep up the awesome videos.

Oh man, I wanted to see how you lifted the tub level to drop it in the drain! That would have been cool to see. I installed a 68x36 acrylic free standing tub against two walls (left and back) yesterday and it took four of us to lift it flat and level and it only weighed 163 lbs. I would have loved to see how you did a 900lb tub.

I told my dad, we broke for lunch early and took a loooooong 2 hr lunch. When we got back, they just got it upstairs, they were crying, asking where we disappeared to. This just made me giggle a bit

@ShopperPlug
@ShopperPlug 2 жыл бұрын
So true... I can not comprehend why in the world would a "client" buy a concrete bathtub when they could've got a natural granite or stone bathtub instead... I'm guessing it was 5-10 times cheaper to get a concrete bathtub instead since concrete is cheap. The "client" could've just molded a bathtub inside the bathroom with fresh special concrete.

Big respect for You - your top quality workmanship is is always on point and I really enjoyed watching this video. However you guys took a lot of risks shifting that tub. I am sure the floor has been designed to receive that weight full of water with a person in it. Smashing the glass blocks out in such an ordinary manner made your normal super slick neatness a thing of the past, disappointing there will be glass splinter all over the roof now and in the gutters hopefully that water is not used for drinking or on the garden through a sprinkler system. The old guy seems to know a bit about moving heavy things but I think he should stay in the garage tinkering as in my opinion he does not know what he is doing and took a lot of risks and did not listen - for example as suggested he should have put the ratchet on the back side of the bath and let gravity do the work - looks like he almost got pinned to the wall next to the vanity as that monster made an almost uncontrolled slide down that in adequate ramp. Heaven forbid if something had gone wrong as unless the old guy is the owner no insurance would have covered what was done. You got a way with it and saved some $$'s but the risks taken where evident. Take care and stay safe and I look forward to your next video.

Could you do a video about installing a Kohler traditional cast iron 300 pound tub? I want to install one to replace a plastic tub but I can't figure out how to get it up there or how many "friends" I will need. Originally the house had a cast iron tub but it became very hard to clean (too much Comet) and rough and I replaced with plastic but cannot stand the way it feels. I guess the builder, back in 1972, had 3-4 guys (with long hair) get it up there.
@TileCoach
@TileCoach 4 жыл бұрын
Takes 3 guys to do it. They usually install them after the framing is done but before the drywall is up. It is much easier if plan on taking out some of the drywall out and even a couple of the studs, and then replace them after the tub is slid into place. It’s a pretty labor intensive project, but not so bad if it’s a total bathroom renovation.

@@TileCoach And I think it is a much better replacement than those Bath Fitter liners they are selling in this part of the country. We broke the old tub with a sledgehammer into 3 maybe 100 lb pieces that me and my brother could get out, like they say on This Old House but on that show, they never show how the tub got in there in the first place. I heard those Bath Fitter things can get bacteria between them, yuck! Just do not get a plastic bathtub, I tried everything and you CANNOT GET THEM CLEAN!
