I love this era of bikes, just after the wild west period with the marin/'frisco bay boys and girls finished, bold experimentation and even bolder colour schemes. To work on and ride, they exude soul. New bikes are amazing, fantastic and sooo capable but they lack "that". Whatever that is.

Now this one is something I can get my teeth into👍 Must be an age thing as these were the style of bikes and frames I grew up with in my late teens into my twenties so it’s great to see any of them ressurected . I’m hoping at some Point you get a Raleigh Chopper,a Tomahawk and a Grifter in to do your magic on🙏 Oh do I miss 1976 when I was 11yrs old or basically the 70’s onwards🙈

This is a ‘91 ☺️ I’ve looked for those classic Raleigh’s before. It would be cool to build one but for me it’s just be a bit pointless. They’re not something I really want to ride unfortunately

It is prudent to align the dropouts before alogning the derailleur hanger. Many times this, by itself, solves shifter missalignment. Great video as usual! I have a bottom tier version called Performer. Heavy/bombproof weird steel alloy used in submarines due to its welding characteristics... Oh, and lime green 😎

14:55 whoa I have the STX RC and they have the front and rear stamped in them too... mine are on wrong? lol weird. it's original 1996 equipped but I see it. the rear one will push the pads further back on the opposed mounts and the front does the same. the post being offset opposite. cool I have pads coming so I'll swap them then
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred 7 ай бұрын
Yeah as long as the opening isn’t at the front of the pad holder you should be good. Opening at the front = pads ejecting themselves under heavy braking 😅

I recently built up a Miyata Elevation 400 very similar but used a bmx bar and stem along with building my own front rack from an old folding chair. I bolted a milk crate to it and use it for storing my backpack on commutes and grocery runs. With semi slick 1.5" tires it rolls so well. The only issue is when the front rack is overloaded it understeers like an EF hatch with an H22 🤣 Haven't fallen yet just need to be mindful on turns. Awesome build.
@MonkeyShred
@MonkeyShred 10 ай бұрын
That's quite an engine to jam in to an EF! That takes me back a bit!

@@MonkeyShred Yes I've never swapped an H22 into anything but I still have my '78 Civic wagon with a 1.6L DOHC ZC 😎 Also just realized my Miyata is an Elevation 500' not 400'. I have no idea what the differences are haha!

bout the front and back on the brake pads. If you reverse them as you did, when you brake, it will pull out the brake pad from the brake boss (?). Lovely build.

nice build up mate. I would run a 2x chainwheel though so that you can have a closer ratio cassette for better shifting. You're probably never going to use that 44T cog in the rear in your daily riding. Why not a 13x27 cassette with a 40x32 chainwheel to cover all your riding needs.
@MonkeyShred

What? That’s a regular 9 speed cassette… a 32T. Don’t know where you got 44 from.
@pcbootleger

Now I see why it understeered. That’s a lot of weight on the front tire to change direction that quickly. Not sure if a different tire would have affected the outcome.
